I don’t have a reptile or really plans to get one, but holy s**t I love these videos. Used to love helping my sister take care of her Beardie and Ball Python, this fills that niche!
thanks for watching!
Big Bertha didn't want to stay while you talk about her! She's a cutie!🌻💙
its the camera! they know!
Bearded Dragons with Christmas outfits was not something I knew I needed to see until now, they all looked so cuteeee. Happy Holidays to you and your beautiful family
Happy holidays!
Face it , Bertha's just not that into you.
Merry Xmas to all. 🐢🐍🦎🐊🎄🎅
she is when Im feeding her
Forbidden chips
lol
your family is so cute and you take good care of them it warms my heart more people need to see that reptiles are more then a "decoration pet" they have feelings and need love and care!
thank you, great comment!
😢yes🎉😂
Well you didnt mention what you should do if they dont come off?
good point
@@Animal1Guy ?
Hi. I need help with regards to stuck shed on my turtle. Hes 12ish years old and huge. I've been running into him having lots of stuck shell. Is there anything I can do to help or get help?
just make sure he can bask in the correct heat/UVB to dry his shell, and then you may need to slide under it like i did when its ready to come off to pop them off
Does it hurt the turtles to have lots of layers of stuck shed? Can they feel that it’s stuck?
no, which is a problem. turtles dont feel pain in their shells
Okay that tug of war section won my heart😊❤
Turtles have scutes? Who knew? Really harder to see than stuck shed on your other animals. Bertha really does not want to be on camera until her she’ll is perfect again. She is such a diva 👩🏼🎤🥰
she is a huge diva!
What happens if you pick a shed too early? When is it a good time to help them or realize they need help?
Do you wax/buff their shells?
Not a turtle owner, just curious since I never knew turtles shed till now. Thanks!
I dont wax/buff, removing them early will damage the turtle, if the tank is right hey will come off on their own.
I want to buy one of those turtle shed pieces!
maybe 1 day
That would be a way to raise money. I'd buy one! 😁😁😁😁
Thank you for making this video! I have had my two female RES for years, and unfortunately I dont see too many people educating about stuck scutes.
You're so welcome!
Merry Christmas !
Same to you!
I love how much you care. Watching your vids just make me so happy
thanks for seeing that!
Merry Christmas Animal 1 guy...🤗
Same to you!
Big Bertha is such a sweetheart!! :) I used to have 2 red eared slider turtles that I miss so much because they had such personality, but I couldn't afford their massive enclosures and the amount of care they really need. I hope they found a better home than I could give them, but just seeing your care for your turtles makes me happy :)
THANK YOU! same back to you!
Bertha’s a beauty! Love & needed this vid. Thanx Teach🐢Merry Day after xmas😺
Same to you!
Big Bertha did not want to look at the camera. She adorable Happy Holidays 🌲⛄
same to you!
We had a terrapin, that was supposedly one of the kids pet, and I frequently would sit and scratch on his shell and help him shed his loose scutes. We would let him out to walk around and always end up having to wash the dog's water bowl because of it. 😂
oh that sounds funny! I let them out also, in the summer I bring bertha outside in the back as I garden she loves it
Hey to you, Bertha, Simba (sp?) and the rest of the Animal1 Fam.
hi hi
You never mentioned if we are suppose to help them shed or if we need to do something to help with a clean shed.
normally they will come off, if they are ready these guys you can pop them off easy and prevent them form getting in the filter.
That was cool to see. So moral of the story: make sure your turtles can submerge themselves fully in the water and have a large enough enclosure for their size?
that is a big part yes!
My RES/hybrid with some other type of mystery pond turtle has some stuck shed and I’ve been treating it with wheat germ and a hot basking area. It’s working really well but obviously taking time. She’s been really restless lately and I’m pretty sure it’s not eggs (she’s 6YO). Does stuck shed get itchy for them? Is it uncomfortable?? She loves butt scratches right now.
I have never had stuck shed happen on the skin parts so I dont know. I dont think they can feel the shell stuck parts.
She’s so pretty. 🐢
thanks
That's so cool! I wonder if my tegu will play tug! My beardies love to chase toy worms I make from beads lol
I hope so! since I have 2 tegus!
@@Animal1Guy excellent, I just have the one for now, but he is pretty much my whole world. Sleeps on my belly every night, comes when called by name, he runs to me if I cry, he is just such a special boy. I can't wait to try this with him when he comes out of brumation! This coming year I'll be adding a pair of albino blues 💙
Ngl i love the video very informational but I couldn't help but see (from the few glimpses) it looks like big Bertha has some long front claws which typically indicate its a male. Just found that out from taking my persumed female res Penelope to the vet... I came out with a male res named Bowser. Which now his name is Mufasa lol
just watched this video i must get a air pump and i use a electric tooth brush with soft tip and it works really well getting under stuck shed the brushes works really well just do it gently
i will look at that
Your videos about herp care (and all of the other videos) are so intriguing. I always learn something :)
Glad you like them!
Her name suits her! She be a big girl! 😊
thank you!
just found this channel, its pretty cool and very cute for a channel built around taking care of things i'd probably be scared of if i saw it in real life
thank you!!
we gived same turtle to zoo it was 15 years old we cannot afford continue having it
they had a good life then
@@Animal1Guy ye i hope soo if i keeped it it will need more space and that really wasnt option in the time and the old one was starting to leak well it was 6 +- years back that we gived it to zoo
Ngl I kinda wanted to see him take the stuck shed off the turtle :/ 🐢 turtle probably felt so relieved 😌
Hello hi I just rescued a painted turtle from a friend with a case of shell rot, what should I do to fix that, I’ve been doing daily shell cleaning with water and dish soap then dry before applying the iodine solution
POV: Jack Black tells you about his turtle.
Y’all sound so similar lol
How often do turtles shed their shells?
its very different for the turtle, but mostly depends on how fast they are growing, and if any thing happens to the old shell. when an adult its not often at all.
@@Animal1Guy Thank you!
I have two adult yellow bellied sliders and I don’t see their shed is this a problem and how can I help them?
“bertha for god sakes”
lol
I rescued an Ouachita map turtle in 2017. I'd kept and rescued turtles for 10 years, as well as working as a vet tech, but this turtle's shell was so weird and unlike anything I'd seen before. It was rough and gritty to the touch, like sand paper, and during the first years I had her it showed no signs of ever shedding. It was so strange. But now, almost 4 years later, she's finally shedding. And the new shell underneath... perfect. I couldn't be happier. She has some problems, MBD and being half the size she could along with some other things, but I'm so glad I could take her in and see the improvement.
great job!!! I have had berth for 2 years almost and I dont know when she shed before.
This man is fun😂😂😂
thanks
Your turtle is so glooossy!
her shell is really nice
6 am, have net slept, Why not learn about turtles shells even though i dont have ant reptile
That must feel so nice for her to get rid off. ❤️
Esp when there are multiple layers
🥰 she looks like mine. Her name is Galado 🐢 👍
I never noticed how beautiful Big Bertha's eyes were before this video, they are so pretty! Im so glad she's with you, and I know she is, too, the way she always swims upo to you when you have a video at the turtle tank- she's always right there following your every move! She knows you saved, gave her a better, a she definitely loves you 💕. Do you think there will ever be a point she will out grow her past life and its effects and not have the stuck shed? Or is she about full grown? She is isn't she? Sorry, can't remember...
she is a she lol, she is full size, so it will be very little shedding.
I adopted a 30yo RES and he’s shedding for the first time since I got him. Super stoked about it tbh
great! its very healthy for them!
Wow! This video was awesome!! I didnt even know that turtles shed. How cool. Thank you so much for showing us how it looks. It was great to see the pieces that were shed. Wow!! You are awesome!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
🐢 🤍
she's so cute
ty
Really a fascinating vid. Your other turtle shedding vid was my first A1G vid so I hope this one does well too!
I hope so too!
Very nice 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
Thanks 🤗
I want to see a turtle race!
bertha will win shes fast
I just now started watching you and already amazed
thank you
OMG I LOVE IT WHEN SHE SPINS IT LOOKS ADORABLE 🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🥺
thank you!
Mine has stuck shed. I am not understanding, I do my best to feed her properly and the amounts of food, I keep her water clean, it's cycled aged pond tote she is in, I have added a extra UVA light. She has heat lamp and another UVA light. But she has not been going up to her basking dock. I am worried about her belly shed. I have her in 75 gallon tote.
Are you sure its stuck?
Thank you so much for the video. I started to notice my red eared slider had like 3 or 4 layers of scutes and hasn't been shedding and I didn't know how it was happening. I looked more into and her uvb light was expired by like 6 months. Water parameters and everything are all good though . I'm glad I caught it now but wish i had sooner. She's 4 years old and ive had her since she was the size of a Gatorade bottle caps. Now she has a 9 inch long shell. Thanks again.
Glad it helped
I love animals! This got recommended to me and I'm not mad, just got a new subscriber!
thank you!
Do their shutes break down like ours or does it just sort of float to the bottom of the water like shark teeth?
floats to the bottoms, or even worse sometimes into the filter
Please help me I’m having a panick attack right now because my turtle has shell rotted and I’m treating it like every other person does. And he’s getting little holes in his shell. And something I want to know is why are there bumps on my turtles shell please help me.
it would need a vet
Is bad to help them? Cuz I am first time owner and I did peak the ones that lifted very easily. She has only been in her new enclosure for a few months.
not if its detached already
People have heard about spinning gorilla, now it's spinning slider time
LOL
Great Video!!! Now I know how to help my baby
Glad I could help
I liked and commented (btw is that turtle the one who spin to dub step
yes lol
Something I never knew, turtle stuck shed, thanks!
np!
is that turtle 12 years old? her growth margins are HUGE for such an old turtle. she must like her new environment. she also has a bit of metabolic bone disease (her plastron should have some shape to it that would not allow her to be spun) the ripples in her scutes should not be there either. that's MBD as well. however it's not terrible, and could smooth quite a bit as she continues to grow. the scutes on her plastron have stuck shed as well.
Shes about 11. I got her a year ago, she was in a 20 gallon tank, no UVB light and a very small dock. Every single scute has shed off, I plan to glue the tops ones together to make a shell lol.
@@Animal1Guy amazing what a little appropriate care will do, eh? it's also amazing what reptiles can survive
I Love it ❤️😁👍
thanks!
😁
❤
Love the beardies and fyi I donated
THANK YOU!
*spins Bertha around*
Big Bertha: "my vengeance shall be great"
How many hours are in your day? You are one busy busy man!
not enough
ow my god turtle is sheeding congrats
thank you
Love the video! Couldn't help but compare the shed shell to potato chips.
my turtle seems to always be shedding. she has a lot of weird quirks. she seems to swim and forget which direction is up and panic. I can't put any hides or decore in with her cause she can't seem to find her way out and will keep swimming into the same spot. she also will not eat anything green or purple. I feel like I am doing something wrong but I don't know what.
that is an odd turtle lol
She's getting scared and running away. She's also looking around and possibly for worms or something to eat. Just provide the best food and husbandry you can. Throw in roseys once in a while.
She looks like she is retaining eggs from last season or maybe she's just a little chunky. Do you plan on a doing a nesting box indoors?
I put her in 1 a few times last season and got nothing I going to do it again this spring.
@@Animal1Guy Thank you for responding. I no longer have easy access to a yard and am researching indoor set ups but hear it's hard to get them to adapt. I had to give her oxytocin shots last season. Would love an update video on your progress. Keep up the good work.
Omg this is old by hahaaaaa so cool he plays.
lol hi
Nice, good vid.
Glad you enjoyed it
Him spinning the turtle 😂
lol
Interesting!
Glad you think so!
How old when turtles shed?
it depends on how fast they grow, young turtles do it more often
Hi I love your videos!!
thanks!
My grandmother's name was Bertha and she was big, she was a huge woman lol
I love both big Bertha's mine and yours ❤
That was really amazing, cause I had no clue turtles shed?
Very informative and you're so funny too 🤣
She was like "dont talk about me. I'm beautiful, ppl should think I'm perfect!"
And she is, she doesn't have to worry about a thing, she's gorgeous 😍
Hope you guys had a very merry Christmas 🎅
And are ready for the new year 🥰
Much love to you guys ❤
much love back!
Um so my pet box turtle has stuck shed on his skin how can I get that off and I have bathed him a lot but it is not coming off so can I help me?

@@Animal1Guy ok thanks
@@Animal1Guy ok thanks
Merry Xmas to everyone !
same!
Lol! I’m always amazed how interactive reptiles are with people. That includes my 4 red eared slider’s! My largest one has his back leg stuck inside his shell 😳
omg yes turtles love to interact!
omg what the h*ll
hi!
That was a cool video! Being a dragon person, I have never owned a turtle, but I found this really interesting! Thank you for letting us spend time with Bertha,(even if it was to her dismay!) she’s a beauty, and she has s feisty personality!
You are so welcome!
Found your channel about a week ago and have found it very interesting, informative and funny, I rely do enjoy your presentation style.
Never had lizards for a pet before but your Savannah is so much of a character I could fall in love with them. Thanks keep up the good work
Thank you very much!
Hello
hi hi
That is SO cool. Like, I never knew that (before watching your videos)!
Glad you liked it!
Hi
hi hi
Thank you for sharing, it helps me to understand things with reptiles. I don’t plan to have a turtle, but I love learning!
You are so welcome!
Can I contact you please?! I am confused about my tortoise
instagram
i dont have a turtle
they are great pets!
@@Animal1Guy i want a crested gecko or a dumpy frog
For the night of 31 december-1 january, you should throw a party where you put all the reptiles togheder. You might lose some :) :) :)
no no that would be a mess, to much mating would happen
I see two bearded dragons trying to mate with everyone....lol
Abe bearded dragons also plays tug of war
Kind of, but they stop soon after starting when they notice they cant eat the rope
Their Are soo Cute When They Have a Santa Hat
thanks lol
Oooh, those shell pieces are gorgeous! I wish you were closer to me, I'd try turning one of them into a pendant for you!
That would be cool!
@@Animal1Guy If you want to try it, you could mail me a couple and I could send you the pendant! I've been doing a lot of wire wrapping lately, and I love the idea of giving you a piece of Big Bertha in pendant form!
You should definitely save those bits of shell theu can easily be made into keepsakes for you... wearable or other. I make jewelry & wearable art ... it would even be cool to make something with larger pieces of shed from your other kids to, there lots that can be done...if you ever interested. 😁
Just noticed my Cumberland slider is shedding, clicked on this video immediately!
cool!
@@Animal1Guy really love what you do for babies, I've been rescuing since I was 3 years old. Gut & heart-wrenching stuff, but oh so very worth it 🤍
I’ve got two female baby beardies but one seems to be growing faster than the other.is that because they’re together or are they just hitting growth spurts at different times?
it can happen sometimes, as long as you see they are eating the same amount its all fine
@@Animal1Guy yes they both are fed the same amount and my smaller girl seems healthy she’s just growing so slow! Haha
