Description: Little by little they rise grimly into the western sky: allowing us to witness various bare, bleak and blackened summits... in the reddish Antarctic light against the provocative background of irridescent ice-dust clouds. In the whole spectacle there was a persistent, pervasive hint of stupendous secrecy and potential revelation... I could not help feeling that they were evil things - mountains of madness whose farther slopes looked out over some accursed ultimate abyss.'
The long out-of-print Beyond The Mountains of Madness returns with an updated layout and sleek new printing coming in at over 400 pages. This is a black and white hardcover book. Written in 1999, it is for the 5th edition Call of Cthulhu rules. It has not been updated to the 7th edition rules.
Beyond the Mountains of Madness is a direct sequel to the short story At The Mountains of Madness, in which an expedition from the Miskatonic University in Arkham discovers proof of ancient, alien life. The investigators of this campaign embark on a new expedition, seeking to finish what the first one started - and uncover the truth of what happened to their predecessors.
This 2021 printing of Beyond the Mountains of Madness is unchanged from the original vision of the authors. Rules are presented as they were for Call of Cthulhu fifth edition, though they can be played with other editions with minor mechanical changes.
The book provides extensive information on Antarctica, including rules for mounting expeditions, and details for 1920s equipment. Expand your campaign, or develop your own Call of Cthulhu scenarios set in the white wastes of the South Pole!

They really need to make an updated deluxe 7th Ed of Return to the Mountains of Madness.

Generally speaking the rules are compatible, so you should probably be able to cover any changes on the fly as you run the campaign. As far as I'm aware, even the latest releases of it are just reprints, but I think I could forgive them, as 400+ pages is a lot to update.

Recently picked up the reprint of this.
Still excellent and huge (430ish pages).
Think it's for the 5.5/6th edition, but reprinted with some stuff on playing with 7th and some tidying up of things.
And as it's BRP you can play it with all previous editions too.
Stay away from the penguin fringed abyss!!!

I've been emailed adverts for it by Chaosium recently, and they lead me to believe that it's the same version I've got as they advertise it as "There's no added, changed or deleted material, although a few typos were fixed. Rules are presented as they were for Call of Cthulhu fifth edition, though can be easily played with other editions with minor mechanical changes."
One of the advantages of using a system which is broadly compatible across all it's editions.
      A truly epic campaign.

I don't have this book, but it's one I really want to pick up. It could be a lot of fun with Pulp Cthulhu. I'm really surpised they didn't print At the Mountains of Madness in this book. Seems kind of important to understanding the background. But, fortunately, we have decent options these days to find the story, without it being in the book.

It's a great adventure to run, I've run it in Cthulhu and then converted it to a SF game (making it the moon Titan instead of Antarctica), so I think it holds up no matter which rules set you use.
Them not including the short story, in part I understand, as the book is pretty massive already, but then I'm also suspicious that they're trying to shift more copies of the books (remembering that Chaosium holds a lot of the rights to Lovecraft).
