We actually throw our plastic shower liner in the wash machine on cold and hang it back up wet to dry. It cleans the gunk off. I was skeptical but my husband was just like heck with it it's going in lol.

My strategy, when my kids were young, was to tell them, “you don’t need to pick everything up, just pick up the things you want to keep.” The implication was I would pick up the rest… And that’s exactly what I did! They learned very quickly!
I am in the moving in with my daughter and her family decluttering mode. That means decluttering from 55 years of marriage and raising two daughters so it has been, and still is, a formidable job. I have a lot of decision hurdles to overcome and it frequently comes down to,”What would Dawn do?” and out it goes! All I feel after stuff is gone is relief that I don’t have to deal with it anymore. Thank you for that. It is such a stress reliever and that’s one thing I don’t need more of! Keep up the great work you are doing!

I always used the polyester fabric shower curtain - the kind that doesn't require a liner. You can just wash it along with your towels every so often. The flowers turned out so pretty!
I wash my shower curtain liners in the washing machine with a couple towels! Works 😊
I came here to say this as well, I had read that about a year ago and have had great success just throwing in the washing machine. I hang it back up damp and it dries promptly.

I also put it in the dryer for about 5 min before hanging it back up. It softens the plastic to its natural state.
Make sure each bathroom has a full roll of tp. Feels fresher that way!
What a blessing for your Mom to have such a loving family! I had my 60th in March and my husband planned a party for me (not my thing! but…) I had family travel to attend and lots of my dear friends… over 70 came😱. It’s very touching when people come to celebrate you. So Happy 65th to your sweet Mama!🎉🎂🥳
I’ve watched your videos over and over the past few monthes as I’ve tried to declutter the harder stuff. 5 years 4 big garage sales with “second day everything is free and what’s left goes to donation” my house is finally lighter. I hosted a tea brunch for Bible study yesterday and had so much fun prepping for it. Borrowed nearly everything and it was so beautiful! Everyone had such a good time and loved my simple and small home. After loving every minute of washing the borrowed china and tea cups just, relaxing through those thankful minutes, I turned on this you tube video. I just plopped on the couch to hang out with Dawn as my reward. There you were just 2 hours earlier sharing the most precious thoughts with me. When my house is simplified I didn’t have to organize or clean before the party. I could just set up the party and enjoy friends coming over. That’s it. It honestly blew my mind! I called my girls to thank them for their support and shared my ah ha moment. Thank you my dear on-line cheerleader. Now I need to start walking as my reward to hang out with you… step two in my journey☺️

I put my shower curtain/ liner in the washing machine with bleach and launder with my whites, Don't put softer and just drip dry. I don't do the pretty cloth curtain on top because, I want the most light inside the shower/ bath area. Since, we don't go in the bathroom when others are using it. The clear plastic shower curtain is enough.

My mom taught me to put the cloth or plastic shower liner in the washer on warm with some mold and mildew cleaner. Just the store brand from Walmart works great. I've only destroyed 1 very cheap (& thin) plastic liner in all the years I've been doing it. It gives them new life & extends their life by years.
You can actually wash your plastic shower liner (unless you buy the super cheapy liners) Put it in the washer with a bunch off towels, it works great!
I always wash the shower liner in the washing machine. Yes, sometimes the liner doesn't last through the wash, but I've had very good luck and never lost not even one liner to the spin cycle. Of course, you take it out before the wash cycle ends, and it'll have water in it, but then i just hang it to dry. Wal la, new clean shower liner.
Saves money, too. ❤
I just use the fabric shower curtain by itself and wash it occasionally, Ive never had a problem🙅♀
For the unfinished wood I use the vacuum and the brush attachment, works great!
I've been "dusting" that way for years 🤭 TOTALLY works! Especially for moulded edges of skirting(base) boards / picture rails etc.

I’ve had a fabric liner for almost 4 years now. I switched because I too did not like the waste that seemed to happen every year with the plastic liners. I have not looked back…I use it along with a decorative shower curtain and it dries quickly in my dry climate. I wash it in my washing machine about twice a year. I’ve only had a slight issue if 2 or more showers happen before the liner has time to dry and then it just wicks water onto the decorative curtain (only slightly annoying)! It’s better than tossing a plastic one all the time😉
Pass the parcel is a classic kids party game in New Zealand and Australia. We usually put sweets between each layer as well, so each person gets something.
I have been working through our kitchen - while we get the family room painted, so there is a bit of a mess. BUT minimalizing has been so freeing to me. Thank you for the motivation. I can feel my stress level getting lower.
I highly recommend not only a fabric liner that you can throw in the wash with bleach every couple of weeks, but also shower hooks that have separate hooks on the front and back for the curtain and liner. That in and of itself is a game changer

I was amazed watching you paint without taping and masking things first! I’ve never just started painting, I’ll have to give it a try! Though I’ll probably drop paint everywhere!!
Pro tip, keep a damp cloth and a little water bucket near by - tiny drips and spots are super easy to clean up as you go.

Thanks for just how real you are in how much work entertaining represents, and how much joy there is in getting together - but if someone has to both declutter/deep clean AND do party prep each time folks come over, it's usually more bandwidth than most parents of young kids have. I don’t have company over very often, but I used to have to spend the whole day or more cleaning and decluttering, and by the time people came over, I was aching and tired. Now that I’ve simplified my house, I have less to clean, so it takes less time, and I have more time and energy to keep up on the cleaning, rather than putting it off til just before company is coming!

I just wanted to tell everyone I just made your white chocolate raspberry bundt cake but used strawberry instead of raspberry because it’s what I had. It did rise well just like the last ones and it smells divine! We will cut it tonight with family here for my mom’s surprise seeing a grandson and two great grandchildren.

Pass the parcel is a very traditional kids party game in the U.K., to make it more fun we also often put mini packets of sweets or a chocolate in between each layer.
OMG! Pass the parcel is pretty standard kids birthday party game here in Australia: there's even a Bluey episode about it! (Season 3 ep 14) but I have never played a grown up version! What a great idea!

I wash my plastic liners in the washing machine with a couple towels and they come out great. When I do replace them, I use the old ones for paint drop clothes. They make the best drop clothes ever.

Dawn, a fabric shower curtain liner!!! Yes, and I’ve always found them at TJmaxx or Home Goods. It will last for years and you can bleach/ wash it and hang wet and it comes out perfect every time !!

I love using fabric shower curtain liners 😃🎉... the key to drying them out well (so they don't mold 😕;) is a plastic suction hook 🪝!
Find the MIDDLE of the bottom seam, hook it, and then drop dry 💦
We also use the cloth liners. So easy to throw in the washer.

Hey Dawn! I'm obsessed with your videos! I've always been a tidy person but as I've had more kids I've gotten very overwhelmed at home. I have a huge love of interior decorating so it's not been easy decluttering but it's been refreshing!!
I use a fabric shower curtain liner and toss it in with our load of bleach-whites on a weekly or biweekly basis - it really does the trick! (And I leave it out of the dryer, just in case)
Yes, except I wash mine twice a year because it is in the guest bath that rarely gets used!
I just found your channel this week and I am truly hooked. I needed this so very badly. I just retired as a nurse for 39 years and our house had become borderline hoarder.
Since January I've rid our house of books, knick knacks, clothes, etc. You are giving me the inspiration to keep going❤.
I wish I had known about your advice years ago and not had the stuff shuffle before the cleaning before the party! The silver lining is I discovered kids -guest kids-LOVE getting to help blow up balloons and decorate the yard, so after I was actually running that late for a party one year and the kids arrived before I got that finished, we did that by popular demand after that. I also found out by accident that toddlers like frozen peas and corn in little treat cups for their party. Don't ask, I just went with it. The parents liked that it wasn't candy and their normally fussy eaters were gobbling vegetables.
Our shower curtain has a removable liner that snaps onto the lower 75% of it, the top 25% is opaque. Once a month, we unsnap the liner and wash it with 1 or 2 hand towels on a gentle cycle. I use about 1/3 the amount of detergent that I normally use and 1/4 c bleach. We've had this shower curtain for years and it still looks great.

My favorite bathroom speed clean tip for company is I take the hand towel and use it to dry wipe the mirror then counter then sink then dust the toilet. Throw that in the wash, grab a new one and my bathroom looks perfectly clean in thirty seconds.

How to Clean a Plastic Shower Curtain or Liner
Step 1: Remove the Curtain.
Step 2: Place It in the Washing Machine.
Step 3: Add Detergent, Vinegar, and Baking Soda.
Step 4: Run on the Gentle Cycle.
Step 5: Remove the Curtain and Hang to Dry.

This may have been suggested already but I love our "Hookless Shower Curtain!" The liner is fabric-y and snaps on to the curtain at about shoulder level. You can unsnap and wash whenever ; I usually keep a replacement liner on hand just in case company is coming and I want a really fresh new liner.
You are really minimal when it comes to the food too 😂; when I heard the 65th birthday celebration, I thought ribs, beef stew, mash potatoes, salads 🥗🧆🥙🥘 and stuff ...; I’m a foodie 🌸🌼🌺; I liked the decorations and the cake 🌸🌼🌺
Dawn- I actually toss my plastic liner in the washing machine with bleach. I actually choose a cute textured white-only curtain (swiss dot texture) so I can take down both and toss them together (rings and all) into the wash. It works great! After it runs through the washing machine with bleach, I toss both back up to hang dry on the rod.

Love the paint color choice, but the shower curtain is a little too loud(sorry).....the remark about the "scuzzy" shower curtain liner made me laugh......sooo true though.....I always feel like the worst person in the world for throwing those plastic liners away, but I 've been too afraid to try the cloth liners, thinking they will leak..... what's a woman to do???.....just love your channel sooo much!!!!....keep up the excellent work, Dawn.....and thank you for all your hard work, at home, on camera, outside!!!....

I have used a fabric shower liner for years. I HATED the plastic liners. I can throw the fabric liner in the washing machine and dryer and they come out great! Happy Birthday to your mom (I turned 65 in December....time for Medicare!) and Happy Mother's Day to you Dawn!!

Dawn, two thoughts for you. I use a fabric shower liner behind my shower curtain. It is machine washable and comes out so nice. I wanted to be able to tell you its name, but I've washed it over the years (yes, years....we've had it in our guest bathrooms (we moved a few times) since 2004) and the tag is faded. I believe we originally purchased it from Bed, Bath and Beyond. You should be able to find one online. Next, scale/calcium deposits of faucets. There is a great product called Descaler made by the Norwex company. I have used it to remove the buildup and it comes off great.
Yes, I totally do better getting things done if I have a date on the calendar!!! I don’t really like that about myself but I’ve learned to run with it. 😂
Apparently you can actually wash the plastic shower curtain liner in the washing machine-- "Clean My Space" just posted a UA-cam video, "All the Bathroom Cleaning Tips You Will Ever Need," where she shows how you can do this to remove that scunge.
