I haven't seen enough Graham Norton shows to say but I love the vibe on this episode. It feels like old friends are just having a fun chat over coffee.
Miriam's face (19:25) as Rupert ends his funny anecdote (16:45) - about his mother's vain attempt to "save him" from decadence - on a tragic and completely unexpected note is hilarious.
A rather different dynamic in his first shows. It was very much just him doing stand-up (sitting down, anyway...) and every once in a while he would talk to his guests. It's much better now.
Wait wait wait! I have come across an episode of the Graham Norton show where miriam margoyles is a guest and it's actually one i haven't seen didn't think that was possible been on a Graham Norton binge for 3 days now 😂#LoveHer
I positively love graham he is funny, sweet, honest, bitchy and so professional and quick witted ,I'm proud of Mr Norton,he is quite simply an Irish Wonder we,re lucky to have him
When he adds on about her death, you can see Miriams response is like 'oh no we're about to trivialise murder for gossip because this person is a character to you' Way overthinking it, but her verbal nod as he starts just feels ethically informed
Pour Delphine but I imagine he/she would have been seen as too much of a threat to the rural community; which I think he/she would have been. She/he should have been encouraged to go somewhere more accomodating.
TheRuloverin I know, but this is a different kinda set up. Same background, different audience setup too, even the sitting chairs/or couches :D. But, overall... I think this is my fav1 of all. No offense, to the US1s but GNS has always been my favorite, bc I've never missed an episode.
+Burda Ellis (w2nicolyeland) I agree. I am too young to have seen johnny but the only one I like was craig ferguson (whos Scottish). I think its the half hour monologues (so stupid) then only 7 minutes with whoever I turned in to see. graham has it right, a couple quick jokes to begin then two guests and a comic, then letting them play off of each other for 40 minutes. so much better, and funnier
Barbara Hammon I completely understand. Ferguson sometimes has scottish actors on, and that's all I watch his talkshow for, the scottish actors, some US1s but that's about it. However, in the recent GNSs nowadays, esp the1 w/Cube&Hart even those2 were laughing at Graham's jokes, and it was their first time on GNS. So that tells you something.
Also demonstrating that he couldn't give a hoot about them being different from him. I might be wrong, but I think he had been prostituting himself in London before being sent to France. So he is pretty broadminded anyway.
17:30 "The Brazilian she-males..." LOL Yeah I remember reading in a Brazilian newspaper back in the mid 80s something like "in Paris don't say you're a Brésilien because that's pretty much synonym for transvestites. Rather say you're du Brésil."
Now it's much better, if you ask me. The old episodes are fun and all, but the dynamic between Graham and his guests was not very balanced, i.e., a huge portion of the average episode was Graham just doing stand-up. Don't get me wrong, I love Graham and I think he's hilarious, but if you're the host of a chat show, you're supposed to let the celebrities do most of the talking, especially when you have A+++ guest stars such as Miriam Margoyles on your couch. I was watching some of the newer episodes and this video popped up in my recommended. I decided to check it out since I hadn't watched the older episodes in a while, and all I can say is that it pained me to see Miriam just sitting there, reacting to whatever news Graham was talking about for most of the video. The show was always good, but I'd say from 2010 onwards it got better and better every year. Graham still does his stand-up at the beginning of the show, but once the celebrities sit on the couch, he lets them do the talking (and of course, he comments on and complements whatever they have to say, so his humour is still very much present all throughout the episode). I recommend watching the episode with Joan Rivers in 2012, or the one with Tom Hanks and Tom Holland earlier this year. Those are some of the best and they can all be found here on UA-cam.
hmmm considering Augustus John was 83 when he died in 1961, it's highly unlikely he was older than that when Miriam paid a visit 😶 If Miriam was 17, he would have been 80 in 1958 ?
Miriam is someone who you need when you have had a bad day her sense of humour is brilliant.
Miriams episodes are the best! -Sincerely, a fan in Montana

Indeed. Endless appearances.
Graham supports her. I think he loves her. And she makes so much controversy. What more could you ask for in a guest?!

Miriam usually leaves other speechless - I never seen her lose it before. When Rupert got to his abrupt, odd end to his story she was stunned. 😎
So glad I stumbled across this! So much to unpack here!
Come for Miriam and Graham, stay for an amazing show 🎉🎉🎉

Also. Miriam's reaction to Rupert's story is the correct reaction.

Graham's suit is exquisite!

Wow that was a difficult story to recover from (Delphine shot by farmers 😪) , poor Graham, and poor Rupert!

Was the St. Trinian’s film ever released? I’ve not heard, but I adored those old films.
I am not being allowed to edit my comment. I was going to say that sometimes the original films turn up in bargain bins for dvds!
