Full Disclosure: I occasionally take on freelance work at Sonicware on an hourly rate producing synth & sample sound design, beta testing, checking English text, video manuals etc. This video wasn't paid for directly but as a result of my work with Sonicware it is marked as Paid Promotion

Here's how to use the Liven Texture Lab for extreme experimental noise. This is very similar to a 'no input mixer' feedback technique but in this case the feedback loop is affected by granular synthesis so the results are extremely wild! The Texture Lab's EFX mode is a processor for external sounds which has tons of options when it comes to processing. Like all feedback techniques the results can be extreme and incredibly difficult to control, great fun :)

great idea....this alone would make me get one....then I would insert a mixer in the feedback loop and feed it other signals, instruments, tape loops etc into the feedback signal.....freaking awesome stuff Chris. Niceone.
That's a great idea! So much more that could be done with that, plus potentially the mixer output would be different from the Texture Labs output too. Sounds like fun 😁
@@ChrisLodyMusic or even a chain of effects pedals… in the loop
That was incredible. Industrial noise hellscape? Well... Now I definitely want one. Wonderful demo.
Thank you, hellscape is a great word for it 😁
Yeah, I've wanted one, even though the 404 is far more powerful, but if this can do stuff like that a bit better, then it's definitely worth it, and I like multiple machines anyways. Hehe. Shalom. :3
@@ReligionAndMaterialismDebunked oo that's a tough call actually. The sp404 can absolutely make horror industrial drones no problem. It just does it differently by using resampling and it's numerous effects. Those effects really can sculpt insane stereo industrial sounds.
I'd say if you want a singular, less expensive drone machine to add to your setup this is your machine. If you want to build a full song out of loops and drums and drones and everything, the 404 mk2 will still get you these sounds and a lot more for a higher price, but a ton more workstation-ish functionality.
I actually think the Sonicware stuff pairs really well with the 404, and my current setup sees a lot of use of the mega synthesis with 8-bar sequences recorded into the sp404 and manipulated from there. That could just as easily be some with the texture lab and the 404.
These are the same sounds my brain makes when I’m at work every day. What a strange coincidence…
Ha! Worryingly noisy 😄
okay, good someone's doing it!
This was a hoot! I picked one up when they first came out and I also found feedback to be a tremendously entertaining way to experiment with this instrument. Thanks!
Thank you. It's one of those things I try pretty much everywhere I can. The SmplTrek is really good at it too with all its FX types 😁
This is the only good video on this thing! I wish more people showed the nasty sides of more synth demo videos
Great sample material
Very timely. I got the Texture Lab due to your video and feedback is one of the things I wanted to try out.
Ooh nice one. Hope you have fun 😁
@@ChrisLodyMusic when and where do we get to listen to your soundtrack, in case you’re at liberty to say?
Thank you so much for these videos you are a real inspiration to me!!
Glad to inspire, thank you 😁
True sound design 🤘
Great demo Chis :)
Thank you 😁
Excellent noises!
Thank you 😁
Oh yeah baby! Badass granular chops. Some serious exploring to be done with this cheeky synth.
However, I'm disappointed that you're not delivering this wonderful FREE educational contend with the energy of late 80s Saturday morning TVs star Timmy Mallet.
Just not good enough 😊
😂😂😂😂 Sorry to disappoint 🤣
I really like when you use synths in unintended ways. Makes me wanna give it a try. This synth sounds great for all types of noise.
Thank you. It's always something I'm trying to do with gear, I think it's just my subversive nature 😄 The Texture Lab can do anything from sublime to utterly brutal now 👌
@@ChrisLodyMusic I kinda think that the Texture Lab is intended to make this sort of noise. Though with the feedback you take it to the extreme.
Big thumbs up on this one 👍
I keep playing with the idea of getting one...this made up my mind...I'm getting one it totally fits what I do
Nice one, hope you have fun! I'm currently chopping up some recordings from this to use in some manic breakcore 😁
Very cool!
Thank you 😁
Totally skipped over this one until I started looking for a live sound mangler. Love it!
Yeah it's pretty wild when you start to dig into the EFX mode. Check out Sonic Cartography as he has plenty of Texture Lab tutorials on UA-cam
@@ChrisLodyMusic aye, he does some deep explorations...but granular leans so hard into ambient territory that that’s 99.9% of the demo usage cases...yours is (so far) the only demo that shows the more aggressive textures and applications. I’m always hunting a giggable “Neo’s scream” effect (yup, Matrix reference) and this is the first time I’ve heard it in a while
Ah yes, love a bit of that. Sonicware are asking me to make Drill n Bass on the upcoming Lofi-12 XT on which you can seemingly automate the sample loop length etc. Should be perfect for some extreme sounds 👌
@@ChrisLodyMusic ooooh now that sounds fun...it’s become a defacto must-have on all my gear that automation and performance recording must be there across the majority of parameters...once you’re dabbling with that pool of destructive joy everything else just seems bland and basic! That’ll be the Autechre/Reznor/RDJ influence then
I used to do this on my ensoniq Eps-16 with the waveboy soniq demolition disk. Would be more fun with so many knobs like this.
🔥🎹🔥
SO tastey - Guys make sure to use the link if you end up getting one ; )
Ha yeah maybe I should set up affiliate links one day 😄
kinda want this but love my lofi 12 so much
Glad you're enjoying the Lofi-12. Its quite a different beast to that, much more experimental in general I'd say
@@ChrisLodyMusic it would be good for samples or ambient i believe
Synth for Kim Cascone!)
Dude this was pain, i felt like i'm the dentist again! Wow what a weird piece of gear
Awesome, mission accomplished then 😄 Don't know if you're seen much of the Texture Lab before but it's also a granular sampler and it's capable of sounding very beautiful, but not today!
curious what this would do if I added my kp2mini in the middle
Ooh yeah that's an idea, I've got one of those too 🤔😁
@@ChrisLodyMusic yeah it seems like some of the rhythmic settings like the lfos and slicers could do some fun stuff or the synths could be used as a source to kick off the feedback
8:17 death grips yuh!
Oh wow yeah it does sound like them 😄
:D
Terrible sounds...😵💫
Really, Chris Lody ? Awful !
What is?
