This is possibly the best looking dress watch I’ve ever seen ❤️
The BEST comparison 007 watch video on UA-cam!! Great job! Thank you!!
Thank you so much.
Great, in-depth review! I saw both in person the other day, and I have to say -- I loved the Omitawari. Staring at it instilled a strange sense of calm in me. I personally like the more subtle blue compared to the Skyflake. The 007 is the more understated and refined watch. The way its flakes played in the light made for some fascinating visuals.
Thanks oriando212. Yeah the 007 is a cleaner timepiece and gives it a more vintage visual. I can't wait for the SLGA007 to arrive though. I think that's gonna be a bomb.
I own numerous Rolexes (ie. Date Just Masterpiece, Seadweller Anniversary, Seadweller, Submariner) which I enjoy but I could not let the Omiwateri escape my grasp. The spring drive is ingenious. The dial, hands and indices are perfection. The sweeping continuous second hand is a joy to watch. The simplicity of the dial gives the Omiwateri an elegance ideal for a dress watch. Don’t get me wrong, I would still like to own a Patek Phillipe but I just don’t want to pay for it myself!
I absolutely agree with you there. GS is coming up and their quality is really good. Surpasses many other swiss watch brands. And their price is still pretty alright...for some I mean.
Great review. SBGY007 is my favorite of the two. I just wish GS had exposed more movement on the case back. I do understand the large bridge makes the watch more robust. But the lack of movement view will not stop me from buying as I love the thickness and the dial color and texture. Currently own the Shubun 413 which I also love. I do hope GS learns how to reduce the thickness of their GMTs - which I would one day like to acquire.
Thanks there. Have you managed to acquire any lately?
Great video! I guess I'll just save up and see them both in person before deciding
Thanks there. Do check them out. I think they are pretty stunning especially that zaratsu polish.
Thanks for this review. Also from malaysia and have been considering exactly these 2 watches. Decisions decisions!
Hey Keith Lee, have you managed to decide which to get?
@@watchat888 I did, but opted for another brand instead this time round. Still waiting for a GS watch that ticks ALL the boxes for me.
@@keithlee6050 No worries buddy. Im sure it will come by soon in 2022 🤪
A very interesting dresswatch. Love the dial!
I prefer the cleaner dial without the power reserve indicator. But man, that price…
Basically the difference is the Omiwatari is made as a dress watch while the skyflake is a dive watch made into a dress watch. The 9r65 is big and thick and power reserve on the front makes the dial less clean while the 9r31 is made for dress watches, that is why it is more expensive than the skyflake. You get what you pay for.
Well said there.
My next purchase !!!
The sbga407 best
😁
Thanks Wacthat for the wonderful review. Just wanted to confirm. Is the SBGY007 case design similar to the LE SBGK005? Thanks.
Hey Ronin, the case design is the same. But the lugs on this are slightly shorter.
@@watchat888 Thank you very much.
My favorite is Skyflake, Omiwatari is running on Steam and Coal again.
😂
Thanks for the comparison, I have the skyflake and when I saw this drop I thought wow I might like that better due to the 10 thickness and clean dial. However the case shape is not as nice unfortunately and the water resistance is a deal breaker
I agree there. I think the Skyflake still has the advantage there.
Thanks for the review. Am also from malaysia and have been considering both these watches. Decisions decisions!
No problem. Let me know if you need an assist.😉
Is that foam in straps which makes it bigger
I'm not too sure. But I think because the watch itself is thicker, the strap cannot be too flat. Otherwise it will look weird.
@@watchat888 ok thnx but why the strap is not equal or equally solid piece of leather i mean or why the foam is same through out the strap to make it equal ?
@@watchat888 plz reply
🔥🔥🔥🔥😍
How is the sbgy007 a problem because it has lighter blue? It's made to look like ice. The sky flake is made to look like snow in the morning when it snow looks super blue. I have both and I think you need a bit of work in the review to get more followers.
Thanks for the feedback there K Ng. Will definitely find ways to better the channel. My personal view is that because the blue is so light, it disappears under certain lighting or lack of it. Don't get me wrong, they are gorgeous. Still love them. Anyway, it's great to hear that you disagree with what I said, which is fine. It's ok to have differing views that's why we chat about it right? 😅
A nice watch but the look of the movement in the back is just cuckoo. Why the huge opaque steel plate? Looks like they are hiding something (my guess is there are remnants there of a date wheel from an earlier version or something like that), otherwise I cannot imagine what sensible reason exists to NOT expose at least a bit of the gears in a watch that's so easily confused with quartz in the first place. Something is fishy here. I'll wait.
The textured dial (although a much lighter shade of blue) of the 007 looks great in person and especially under bright light (it really shimmers) but the size is quite small for my taste. I really like the SkyFlake and I appreciate the fully polished case and more pronounced blue dial colour but if not for the size, I would appreciate the 007 a bit more. I cannot understand why Grand Seiko continues to produce dress watches in such a small antiquated size? Not everyone appreciates 38-39mm watches. The newly released SBGW267 and the other US editions are 37.3 mm 🙁….we are not in the 50’s or 60’s. A great comparison video of the two 👍 Keep up the great work!!!
I think unlike all the swiss brand that are moving towards bigger watches, GS, being an Asian company, still thinks that big means sporty and small means elegant. The thing is, what's small or big is very subjective but GS tends to favour heritage and is a company that keeps going back to the roots and sees that as something that its fans appreciate....or at least it thinks that its fans appreciate it.
A dress watch is not big. A 45mm watch is not a dress watch..
@@zouki42 A 40 mm or a 41 mm would be a nice compromise. I never mentioned the need for a 45 mm dress watch.
Companies are going smaller. People want elegant smaller sizes for dress watch. Antiquated? You do know back then men wore 31 to 33mm right? Most people want classy look.
@@06lanevomr maybe so, but for those of us who have a 7.25” - 7.5” wrist, 37-39 mm watches look a bit too dainty in my opinion. For those, who have a much smaller wrist, 37-39 mm dress watches are the sweet spot. Again, it is only my opinion.
