- Welcome to the luxurious San Pedro Garza Garcia just outside of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon! The last time that we came to Monterrey we stayed en el centro, but many of you all told us to stay in a city that is actually just outside of Monterrey called San Pedro Garza García. Now we can see why! San Pedro felt very new, modern, upscale, safe, and luxurious.
A few fun facts about San Pedro Garza García from the interwebs:
San Pedro Garza García is a city within Nuevo León and part of the Monterrey Metro area. It is a contemporary commercial suburb of the larger metropolitan city of Monterrey between Puente de la Unidad and the Alfa Planetarium, including areas surrounding Calzada del Valle/Calzada San Pedro. The city hosts the headquarters of corporations such as ALFA, Cemex, Gamesa, Vitro, Pyosa, Softtek, The Home Depot México, and Cydsa. With a population of 121,977 (city) and 122,009 (municipality) at the 2005 census, it is the seventh-largest city and eighth-largest municipality in Nuevo León.

Respecto a la movilidad peatonal, ¿así es en general la cd. de Monterrey? ¿O sólo es San Pedro de los Garza? Por que como Greg mencionó, desafortunadamente así es en la vasta mayoría de urbes en Estados Unidos, el transporte público es netamente insuficiente en las pocas rutas y reducidas áreas que pudiese cubrir, las aceras no facilitan las movilidad del peatón sin un coche particular o simplemente hay enormes tramos y áreas "cortados" por grandes avenidas o carreteras... Sin un coche por ej. en LA o Houston es difícil ir de punto A al B o explorar nuevos lugares. Saludos a toda mi raza Mexicana!
Pasa lo mismo en Hermosillo, aquí no se camina, todo es en coche ni hay esos puestos ambulantes a montones como en la CDMX. Solo en la noche hay puestos de Hot-Dogs y tacos de carne asada, no más variedad.
José Hernández así es sobre todo en San Pedro, la ciudad está planeada para el auto, nadie anda en la calle, se considera “naco” (mal gusto) caminar por la calle, IMAGÍNATE!!

skun weed no podemos comparar los estados porque cada estado tiene lo suyo además son costumbres y todo es muy diferente en cada estado, Guadalajara Jalisco es más turístico que sinaloa, sinaloa tiene lugares muy bonitos pero no son turísticos el único lugar conocido es Mazatlán pero tenemos mucho más playas bonitas y solo son visitadas por turistas locales.

I can truly appreciate how you go out and really explore the city. I know a lot of tourists that don't do that and only eat in american chains like Starbucks or McDonald's and their idea of exploring is going through malls. But seeing that you care about small taco shops or local stuff makes me really happy.

We live in SMA but drive to QRO every now and then...and the mall in QRo is super fancy too. I am not a mall person but I love going there. Cosmopolitan.

Hi Gueritos!. I used to live there and I'm surprised you walked one block from my old home. San Pedro was built by the pioneers of the industry of Nuevo Leon, very super hard working people who traveled a lot the world and USA and got inspired to bring here all kind of things around the world. Then their son's after one or two generations turned those big fancy houses into this weird mix of offices and commerce but skipping a lot the urban design. But that's because the civil urban part is from the government and due corruption has lack of design and no way to walk or to ride a bike, with lot's of potholes of course and rules are skipped. Take a lot of caution when walking across the streets because we the Mexicans learned to drive just taking the car with no driving school and rules and unconscious give preference to cars than to humans, bikes or motorcycles. Always look at both sides when crossing because we may skip the rules.
On sundays in San Pedro they partially close one of the main streets of san pedro and make it a pedestrian walk with lots of vendors and lots of people, you should go there you'll love it.

My family are Diaz Garza’s, my great Uncle founded BanNorte. His sister was my grandma Conchita. They were raised on an Hacienda in Linares, Nuevo León. She married a Berlanga and ended up a widow when my papi was 13. He eventually moved to California, met my mother and the rest is history.

I love my country as a whole. Yes, I'm from Monterrey and it is a excellent place to live and study (it has an elevated life quality), but it is a very busy city and sincerily there aren't many turistic areas and I prefer to go to pueblos mágicos and visit the mil y un playas that México has to offer, How can you say no to cochinita pibil in the south or no go to see las ballenas a Los Cabos or Idk the beautiful arquitectura of Guanajuato. Yes, I'm regia and love to live in Mty, but the rest of the country is another thing. No hay que olvidar que la gran biodiversidad y riqueza cultural que tenemos es lo que nos hace un excelente lugar para turistear, pero nuestra gente es la que hace que sea un mejor lugar donde vivir.

Monterrey is a new city, its boom happened to be in the early 1900's so there is no colonial towns, pyramids, local handcrafts or those things tourist want to experience. My hometown is dreaming on becoming more like an American city look (does not mean it is). As I said, if you came from central and south Mexico you will be little disappointed, enjoy what we have, which is not much but we do our best to making it look spectacular for visitors. Enjoy.

¿Que querias? ¿Que hiciera Photoshop al cielo gris 2:58 ? Que para andar entre plazas tenia que cruzar prácticamente la carretera porque faltan un CHINGO de cruces peatonales.
Tampoco lo llamaría "impresionante", hay bastantes plazas pero muy pocos lugares recreativos reales (o al menos no los enseño). Faltan museos, teatros, restaurantes, parques, monumentos históricos etc. Les falta mucho para superar al GIGANTE. Que sea un lugar caro no es lo mismo que sea un lugar entretenido.
Oscar López es precisamente lo que dijo, que no lograron buenas tomas, ósea que no lograron captar todo lo que es la ciudad, San Pedro es bastante impresionante en algunas áreas y no solo por los centros comerciales.

You say that you’re more used to “Central Mexico”, but that’s just it, Mexico is huge and each region has its own distinct culture. Northern Mexico will always be very different from Central Mexico and you have to accept it just the way it is.

5:18....En CDMX se puede caminar pq la temperatura es menor, Aunque el sol lo esta quemando igual pero no se dan cuenta por la altura en la que estan, ...Pero en Monterrey no acostumbramos caminar tamto, menos verano con temperaturas de 38 o 40 grados a la sombra , la lamina de los carros esta arriba de 60 grados ,,,,y invierno el aire frio se te cuela entre la ropa como agujas., asi es casi todo el norte de Mexico.....ese clima extremoso es lo que hace dinamica a la ciudad ......Saludos

Thanks for the view. We left Monday back to Colorado and wished we could have stayed. We always stay down that way close to the park at the end of the Malecon. We always ride with Clarence and Puerto Vallarta Cycling when we come down. He’s awesome. Thanks again.

I prefer places like oaxaca, jalisco or the beautiful towns of michoacan. People from monterrey might get really upset but who cares i thing they are arrogant. You guys like oxxo so i like my ☕️ from arco or quit stop as well. Rather than paying 4 bucks for a coffee at starbucks haha.

Mall culture is strong in Mexico. A burgeoning middle class in the last 20 years has increased the popularity of them. Unlike here in the states where mall culture reached its peak in the 80s & 90s & is now in decline because of online retail. I had to explain this to my friend visiting Arizona from Monterrey who was sorely disappointed at the lack of good shopping at even our luxury mall!🤣 Make no mistake though the Mexican wealth gap is real.

"shopping strip centers" translates as that.. Monterrey is a trendy-loving city with lots of cash, lots of cars, lots of construction. it is "flashy".. u describe it as somewhere between modern and cutting-edge.. I would describe it as somewhere between modern and Gaudy (oops, misspelled)..
I didn't like Monterrey because it is not a city that u can enjoy on foot or on a low budget as u can in the case of central or some southern cities, and Mexico City.
Sure, they can afford to import star designers, and luxury brands, and I don't necessarily dislike that.. but overall there is a disorder, and a lack of consideration to human scale, and to its stunning natural environment.. in that sense, it's very Mexican.
It is a Consumer-rich city with very materialistic people (I'm not saying that's bad, since we Mexicans tend to get very defensive, especially when it comes to our cities..
..but Monterrey does reflect the real Mexican contemporary culture for the most part, at least of northern Mexico and pockets of central Mexico ( u mention Santa Fe).. if Ciudad Juarez was a richer (more money) city it would look like Monterrey or vice versa (and u saw Juarez)..
Monterrey is an enjoyable city, just like any other city, it's just not my type of city..

6:50 Fun fact, the OXXO chain started in Monterrey, the first OXXO opened in the municipality of Guadalupe, Nuevo León (also part of the Monterrey Metro area) and now it has become one of the most recognisable things of Mexican everyday life.
