- GREAT NEWS! A brand new series of HORRIBLE HISTORIES starts on CBBC on 31st May 2010!! In the meantime... Here's just a tiny nugget from series 1: a post match interview following another classic 'game' between some very hungry lions and some very tasty Christians.

Horrible histories is a great childrens TV Program its funducational! Hats of to the creators!
Why can we not have a video that even mentions religion/gender/race etc without nasty comments? Horrible Histories is a great way to teach kids about history while making it entertaining.

Agreed. Granted it was tragic, but Jesus said we as Christians would be persecuted. This was just on of the gory ones :(
I'm a Christian, and I have to admit I cracked a smile. However, a bit of me is still repulsed and offended by it. Are they going to start putting the Holocaust, Armenian Genocide, and the Rwandan Genocide into this show as well?
@TwilightLink293 the majority of the fathers of science (Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday et al) were Christians. The major campaigners for social reform (Lord Shaftesbury, William Wilberforce, Elizabeth Fry et al) were Christians. The training of nurses improved because of a Christian - Florence Nightingale etc etc.
Not only his gardens, but Christians were also used to light up the streets when they were crucified and burned.
Why don't we still do this? I know a few Christians in Topeka, Kansas who we could use...

It depends what you count as dying for your faith. WW2 and WW1 were mainly fought between Christians. By the way I was replying to gothicblackrose's comment. I think more died in the Roman times directly for their faith. More christians die today but not always for their faith.
In WW1, Britain and Germany were Protestant, Austria-Hungary and France were Catholic and Russia was Orthodox.

@Ryoukawaii You're missing the point. It doesn't matter if it was still part of Judaism! The Romans weren't throwing all the Jews in with the lions, they were doing it to Christians SPECIFICALLY. Yes, they were Jews (mostly), but there was still a distinction. They were still a subgroup that they didn't like, and they targeted them specifically. How do you not get that?
@321XbethX123 I've found that in some of the Horrible Histories books there has been some sympathy for Christians in Roman times, while pointing out the stupidities of the Medieval times.
@Ryoukawaii I'm not thoroughly upset by it, I'm simply pointing out how tasteless it is. The fact that it's a kids show that normally makes history interesting doesn't mean they're excused from making tasteless jokes that mock the suffering people have gone through in the past. The rest of y our post simply doesn't make sense. History isn't politically correct? No, but that doesn't mean we should make insensitive jokes about everyone who's ever been persecuted against in the past.

The Crusades weren't defensive, each of them were just retaliations to other attacks by angry Christians.

@merlock101 Christianity was still considered an offshoot of Judaism at that time.
Certain people? Most of the Western armies did such. The goal of the Crusades was to conquer Jerusalem, and to them, a Jerusalem with pagans in it was not truly Jerusalem. Also, usually after a crusade was declared, there would be anti-Semetic violence.

Do people have to keep insulting religions or getting offended? This is history, plain and simple. It's just what happened. It's meant to teach you about the fact that the romans threw christians into the coliseum to fight lions. That's it. It's not meant to be an excuse to get annoyed or look down on any religion. Alright?
Voltaire (I think it was) once said that Christianity would be dead in 200 years time - well we're still here (by the grace of God)...
@Ryoukawaii I didn't say Jews committed atrocities against Christians, I said they've done them in general. And there was always a clear distinction between Christians and regular Jews. But it still doesn't matter, extermination is still an atrocity, and most people don't think it's funny when they've been the victim.
And sure you might think the Crusades were atrocities simply because they were wars, but they don't stack up on the same level as extermination attempts.

What is your source to support your claims?
I never said hateful statements about God. I went to church on Christmas Eve. I was just protesting against your claim that the Crusades were defensive. If the crusaders were against Turkish Expansion then why did they sack Constantinople?

And also, the Crusades were a defensive response against Turkish aggression and power grabbing in the Christian Holy Land so that's another ridiculous analogy.

Okay... I get that these people are persecuted for being Christians, but it should sadden people to know other human beings were treated this way, regardless of their religious beliefs.

@Ryoukawaii If there was no distinction, the Romans would have been throwing Jews in with the Christians as well. I'm not talking about the time before Jesus died, I'm talking about once Christianity became its own movement.
And extermination was not a goal of the Crusades. Sure you had certain people committing atrocities such as those, but it wasn't the point of the Crusades and therefore the Crusades themselves were not extermination campaigns.

Was just about to say how funny this video is when I saw all the stupid comments by people below. You're watching a children's history show and all you can say is "gee, I wish we still did that to Christians and/or Muslims." You know there's a difference between atheism and hating religion.
@thebritish25 To be honest, I think Fallout 3 is a tad overrated. Guns break down way to fast, and some vehicles or something would be nice.

I know why they didn't put cars in Fallout 3. Because it's Oblivion with guns. I liked Morrowind a lot better, it was over 4 GB on my harddisk because of all the plug-ins. XD

They're just trying to put a bit of humour into history for the younguns. And if it didn't happen, they wouldn't be making shows about it, surely!
It still wouldn't be a good thing, people should not be killed for the matters of having a different religion.

I thought I knew about methods of Christian martyrdom until I saw the sketch with Emperor Nero using Chrisians for human candles and one Christian being catapulted! Belief in a higher being is as old as humankind, so who are the religion-haters trying to kid? Possibly themselves...

@rhyfelwrDuw yea we could have had our modern education system centuries back but no..everything was just explained with the expression "because god wills it" imagine where we would be if humanity was on our standard 300 years ago. my point is that christianity severely delayed europe's developement and it first had to go through almost a millenium of "righteous" deliberately suffering humans

Ask Christians in India, Pakistan, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, Egypt, Turkey, China, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Iran, North Korea, etc. You need to get more informed about what is going on in the world and watch a little less Bill Maher.

@rhyfelwrDuw srry but we've got all of that thanks to christianity ?? romans had laws greeks had laws roman and greek hospitals were far better than the "hospitals" in medieval europe thanks to christianity it wasnt until the late 18th century that human kind would listen to the human mind i wonder where we would be now if science would have been allowed to be practised through the medieval ages

Watch other clips their make fun of nearly everything historical, this is a COMEDY sketch show about history, also their won't making fun of Christians if their where their would have insulted them for beliveving in the Bible, okay true their did make light of the brutal killing of Christians, but again this is a comedy sketch show about history.

Your sensibilities that extend to before the Common Era appear to be far too delicate for tame material like this. History is not politically correct; get over it and don't watch if it offends.
