      @michaelahurt 19 днів тому

Yeah it's the thing Russillo always says: You can't fake desperation
As great as Minnesota was in game 2 they had two things going for them:
      1) They came out with a completely different game plan that Denver had not prepared for.
      2) Gobert being out gave them a sense of urgency and an emotional energy that you can't replicate
Minnesota played basically perfect defense in game 2, they were allowed to be super physical off ball and in the post, and Murray was clearly hobbled.
*BUT* if those things had continued Denver _would_ have gotten swept.
If you'd asked me after game 2 I still would have picked Denver but I wouldn't have felt great about it. I was definitely wavering because I just had no clue how hurt Murray was

At least SOMEONE (Bill) finally spoke the truth about Game 2 and how it was officiated. It came in hindsight, but not only was it "prison rules", those same rules weren't applied to both defenses. But...all anyone wanted to talk about was how Denver "lost their cool".
They definitely did...and deserved the flak they caught for it. But go back and re-watch that game now and you'll see it.
What's also funny is it's like no one could even IMAGINE this happening! Really...?
I mean, who could see this coming from a team that has KAT, Gobert, and a bunch of young players - one being a guy who missed the playoffs last year because he PUNCHED A WALL!
That said, it feels like these are the two best teams left in the Playoffs. Looks like we're gonna see whoever battles thru the West play Boston in the Finals. And with how Boston has played in home Playoff games the last few years, I don't think their home court advantage will matter.

A small adjustment that has had a big impact in the last 2 games was letting anyone but Murray bring the ball up the court. AG bringing the ball up causes gobert to float farther from the basket and get switched on Jokic. I saw more Gobert Jokic matchups this game than the last 3. They're also loading up on one side of the floor which creates space for Murray on the opposite side. The actions start from quick set ups and basically putting Minnesota in a blender. Ant had an amazing game, but it was still a one sided affair. Minnesota has to execute better and not settle for these hero ball plays like KAT heaving logo 3s.
Now we get to see if Minnesota and ANT can really make a push. Beating Denver when things are not swining your way is a lot different from beating the discombobulated Suns.

The ejection thing is really weird. Jokic getting ejected in game 4 against the Suns in 2021 to this day is the most puzzling ejection after Duncan who got ejected for laughing on the bench. Jokic made a basketball play on a live ball (got all ball too when his hand lowered) and got ejected for grazing Cam Payne in the nose.
We've seen so many instances of actually dirty non-basketball plays that don't even get a tech let alone an ejection. I'm all for having balanced technical and ejection calls, but they got to do it starting next season. If they didn't eject Embiid for trying to snap Robinson's leg in the first round series, they can't eject or suspend anyone for this playoffs unless they do something really horrible.

Also, they had Gordon bring up ball because he can blast through first line of defense quicker cutting into teeth. Then getting Murry ball with space. This all goes to the more effective screens.
Also, the reason why Murray was not suspended he has never had one issue with the league this was his first offense. Unless super egregious they don’t suspend on 1st offense. This was per the NBA.

Part of what Denver did was to allow different guys to bring the ball up the court so that Jamal Murray wasn't under pressure from the half-court line like he was in the first two games. Without having to bring the ball up he was able to get to his spots and have enough time to get his shot off. They were pressuring him in the back court in those early games and that changed in the last two games and I really believe it was something that Malone figured out. Then of course the obvious thing that Denver is a champion and knows how to play like A champion and they had not been playing up to their level so far in the playoffs. They look like a driven team now and if they take game five I think they're going to wrap it up in 6. Well maybe 7.???😊

  • @jjmcg9688

The way they controlled the pace is by having AG bring the ball up. MN can’t put one of the point of attack on him, so they get into their sets quicker without pressure. Keeps Murray fresh. Then, Joker, started using the short roll to find the weak spot in the defense. That being said, Kat and AG go to average it might’ve gone the other way.

I like Ant. He’s cocky but he has the game to back it up unlike Ja. Do people forget how arrogant and cocky Muhammad Ali, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Deion Sanders all were as athletes? Steve Jobs was arrogant and cocky.
MJ showed up in the ‘85 ASG with a gold chain around his neck and still wore it when participating in the dunk contest. Larry Bird was the biggest trash talker there ever was. “Which mfer is coming in 2nd?” Kobe was called Showboat by his teammates as he would attempt 360 dunks in a breakaway in his first two years.
I like what Ant is saying and doing here. It shows he’s not afraid of these defending champions. He’s fearless. It can motivate him for Game 5. He did show up for this game except the other guys didn’t. And this was after he held accountability for the Game 2 loss.
I do think Minnesota will eventually lose this series whether it’s in 6 or 7. Minnesota and OKC are showing their inexperience already after a good start. Denver might be to Ant what Detroit was to MJ. The last obstacle before getting over the hump to win a ring. His team is not ready for it yet. He is but not his teammates similar to MJ from ‘88 to ‘90. Scottie and Horace were still a bit too soft. KAT remains soft.
It’s still Denver’s reign as champs for the next 2-3 years. Ant will eventually get a ring but he needs to taste the losing and heartbreaks first. Denver is my favorite team still playing but Ant is my favorite player to watch. Great personality. There’s an alpha dog in him.

The high fg% wasn't out of challenged shots just going in, a lot of them were wide open shots, layups and dunks. The Nuggets ball movement, pick and roll action, and rim pressure was stretching the Wolves defense. There were so many runs where Jokic will attack the paint then Wolves big man will double him boom open dunk for Gordon, or Jokic will walk past the free throw line weak side defense closes in to help boom KCP open 3. Aaron Gordon dribbles to the ball up, Jokic sets a screen for Murray then AG hits him with a pass boom open middy for Murray.

Nah, most sports analysts have their bias. People were focusing on Murray's throwing of stuff because of the what if (someone gets injured) but when you had a player who intentionally injure someone for the rest of the playoffs and I'm talking about Embiid. The video was so clear that he intentionally pull Robinson's ankles to make him fall and whatever Embiid's excuse was, it was total bs. With that incident, it was crickets, not one in the media raised an issue to have Embiid suspended. Robinson is totally out of the playoffs, there's no what ifs as compared to Murray's action. So the media have their favorites. I think the league was aware of it and to maintain at least some consistency, they didn't suspend Murray but definitely, they won't say it.

Brown and Gordon have looked like the splash bros despite not being great shooters at any other time. I feel like MN should have won game 4 without weird shooting luck. The Murray half court shot was a perfect example of the nuggets playing well but also getting incredibly lucky. Sometimes the winner of the game is not the team that actually played better, but the one that made shots. I wish more analysts understood that winning a game involves more than playing hard or whatever stupid reason they come up with for other teams shooting well.
