To me it seems insane for paint companies to claim they can’t be held responsible for damage they caused 90 years ago for two reasons 1- I bet if you tried to used something they had rights to from 89 years ago they would still want to sue and get paid see Disney and 2- they KNEW lead was harmful 110 years ago. And they chose to keep trying to sell the product. So they sold something harmful, knowing it was harmful, hid the risks and now want to claim “well that was a long time ago!” Which is insane!
It is absolutely insane! They knowingly put a dangerous product on the market, told people it was safe, and now they want to claim they aren't responsible because they didn't tell the homeowners to use it? Complete and utter bullshit
Now they make you sign a paper saying you know theres lead paint in there so you can't sue them. Which doesn't do a thing for the actual people living there

Still, there is no safe blood lead level, no matter your age. Notice the protective suit worn by the man preparing to remove the lead paint? Anyway, you can get a lead test kit at Home Depot. If you find the paint to contain lead, absolutely do not sand it. You will inhale more than a lifetime's worth of lead dust by doing so. Either leave it the way it is or paint over it. If the paint is flaking, a hallmark sign of lead paint, you either need to pay to get it removed or resign yourself to duct taping the troublesome areas.

He got very sick and died after a week. His autopsy showed that he had so much lead in his system that it caused multi systemic organ failure. My partner was 8. He lost his father at 8 years old. I remember the house I lived in as a child had that peeling flaky paint in the doorways. This was in 1976. My dad was a construction worker and he knew how to take care of the lead paint once people were made aware of the problem. He fixed those doors and windows by removing them entirely and replacing them with new wood. He paneled over all of the painted walls with real wood paneling. It was never painted. We moved from there when I was 13.
Don't ever buy children's toys at dollar stores! There is still lead and other toxic materials in the paint. Nothing is regulated. Also, many parents don't seem to know how flimsy and dangerous these things can be. It's tempting to just grab a cheap toy in a store to settle a toddler down - I did it myself - but it really isn't a good idea.

They identified the cause as the antique furnishings in the nursery. All four used them, the oldest when they were freshly painted over and sealed. The twins had a little more exposure, but the baby has been teething, quite literally, on his crib and on the legs of the table and chairs.
Meanwhile my school found out that they had a sort of insulation in the walls that can result in cancer when I was in middle school and nothing has been renovated yet and I’m already in my second year of university..
Caro Honest what I’ve heard (although I couldn’t find evidence to back this up) is that asbestos (I’m assuming this is what you’re referring to) isn’t too dangerous as long as it’s left alone. It’s just that when it gets broken or disturbed that it releases the carcinogenic fibers.
Most likely asbestos which is harmless if it stays sealed up in the walls. If it deteriorates and becomes airborne, it can cause mesothelioma, a deadly form of lung cancer. Often, the best thing to do with it is nothing. If the school were to remodel, break down the walls, etc., it would be a federally mandated hazmat site. Often, the best thing to do is to completely raze a building and rebuild.
We just rented a house and realised all the paint is lead-based and flaking all over the floors... I have a 5 month old daughter so I instantly pleaded to back out. Luckily the landlord understood. Crazy we still have all these houses with lead paint

While I don’t know if I had been effected by lead (my childhood home was built in 1977), I do believe some of my ASD, impulse control and fine motor delays could’ve been a factor. With the little boy at the beginning I saw a lot of myself in the way he held that pen. Like you I don’t think I was truly heavily affected by lead.

I bought my house in 2000 and they made me repaint the house before i could buy it because it had lead paint.
