BlackHairandSkinCare Exactly the natural hair care business made 3.5 billion (Yes I said Natural and Yes I said Billion) dollars in 2018. Obviously they didn't do research and these are business people. 🤔🤔🤔
I just visited their website and was shocked to see a photo of a woman with 4c curls. I almost cried. So many natural products cater to type 3 girls. I rarely ever see type 4 beauties being put on a pedestal.
Nikki this. I’m a 4c queen myself. I’m tryna embrace my hair more and get used to not wearing extensions (including braids and Senegalese / Marley twists) I just want people to see that 4c is around and it’s beautiful. 4c isn’t really acceptable to mainstream or black society. It’s almost as if it’s a crime for me to wear my hair I always get “why don’t you have long braids? You’d be so cute with long hair!”
@@thestonerscorner7556 You keep being beautiful just the way you are.😊💖🦋 Always be confident with your hair no matter what anyone says and keep a smile on your face. Say something like I love me for me not you.😏
Their comments/"jokes" were EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL to this black hair business. Talking about some "is this really a problem?" PATHETIC and they should be CALLED OUT for disrespecting this business
Did not see their comments as disrespectful of the business. It's a lack of understanding about the total addressable market. I'm sure the female owner had those stats given her background but I don't remember them being shared during the full episode
So going to try these products now because of seeing this. They know their worth and will not let the ignorance of others slow them down. I wish they had a sequel for what happened to the ideas that Shark Tank low balled or didn’t truly understand the real value of it and see how all they are all doing? That would be amazing to see the look on the Sharks faces.😂😂😂 They should have did research on this brand. They just gained a new customer for this. Here I come CurlMix. Very soon.😏💖🦋
I see no issue with their pricing whatsoever. Consider this, an iPhone 11Pro Max has $181 worth of components in it, with a total production cost of $490.50 to make the finished unit. Apple then they sell the phones for $1099 and up to people that stand in line to get them lol. The problem people really have is when folks that don't look like Tim Cooke do the same thing it's suddenly a problem.
@0:06 is the Owner of DryBar and literally said "I'm in the business of making curly hair, straight." That did not sit right with me and will never buy DryBar product again.
Girl I literally just watched on hulu... I was so offended that I immediately went to youtibe to see if I was alone. I was saying out loud after Robert offered "no thank you. No thank you" That was disrespectful. His entire line of questioning was outrageous. I'm glad they left.
@@briez9648 Exactly. "I'm in the business of making hair straight not curly"?!?!? That was offensive within itself. All of them were offensive. And the sad part is they have no idea that they are all offensive. They can keep that show. I don't need to watch it.
@@reginabaker1467 thats what bothered me most was the pure ignorance. That b.s. about which side is the before, is that an issue?! I couldnt watch anymore after that either. This needs to be made viral. After the Tarte Foundation debacle this is unexecusable, this level of ignorance should be called out and addressed.
The sharks comments were highly disrespectful but Robert tried..I felt they'd had a better chance sorry idk his name I'm fairly new to watching this show..but if the blk guy was on the panel they would've had a better opportunity
I am a CurlMix customer with Type 2 hair. I think they should have had more models there with all different hair types showing results. Not trying to be rude but investors need to see hair types they understand as well as those that they are not familiar with. The CurlMix lines work on all types of curly hair. In the CM group on FB, every single line has devoted fans with type 2, type 3 and type 4 hair, but not all the types work for any particular person.
Shark tank everyone out on curlmix. They almost the deal. Lucky why curlmix team don't have a tutor at online read. All supplies should put the label tutor video online.
I watched the episode and read the comments below. I didn't hear anything racist from the sharks. I just saw a lack of knowledge and understanding of black or curly hair. I'm curious to know where the heck are they going to find another $400K investment with less onerous terms? The shark did not ask for royalties or control of production. He simply asked for a lower valuation on a new company. It took $100K from a game show to get the seed money to start the business in the first place. Now you get offered $400K and you walk away?
There wasn't anything racist said, I agree. Their exposure alone on Shark Tank will catapult them into a whole other realm. They'll have more offers than they could imagine in no time!
No not racist but there was a part not shown here where Mark Cuban kinda showed an ignorance of the industry and the need for these products among black people and added to his ignorance, disinterest. This lead to a very flippant dismissal of the value of this company. That rubbed some of us the wrong way. Yeah, That's the kind of response you'd expect from a shark but it felt condescending. The female shark whose "in the business of making curly hair straight," also not part of this clip, almost seemed offended that there would be people who are proud of their curls. She then says that the market is too saturated for Curlmix. Little does she know that the beauty aisles are lined with a bunch of products that don't work for blacks! Even some of the af-am products don't do what we need them to do for our hair so a bunch of us natural curly girls and guys are still searching. It just seemed very dismissive and when you know your worth you just don't compromise. Hope that brings some clarity to why there's been an uproar.
@@calluspeculiar8579 I think we have to be careful not to consider lack of understanding and disinterest as a devaluation of the company. I saw the whole thing and the female shark who is making curly hair straight did not come off as offended at the notion that curly haired folks need products for them. My main point is that the economy is slowing down and corporate debt is the next bubble to burst. So when you get offered $400K from one of those folks then valuation be damned. Take the money and accelerate growth while you can. The shark didn't ask for a royalty so once they have a liquidation event they can get rid of his interest and use the money they mad to start a new venture.
@@performancepolos I see your point. It will be interesting to see how well they thrive without the sharks. It may have been easier with Robert in their corner but I still think they will succeed. It may just take longer
It made sense for Mark and Kevin to exit the deal, but Alli Webb knows how lucrative the hair care industry is. She's in that industry! She said she didn't invest in them -a synergistic business that would have helped her scale her existing biz - bc she's "in the hair straighten business". What biz owner doesn't seek to target customers of ALL hair types? Afterall, Curlmix is for all ethnicities. Later she joked about stealing their idea AND invested in trash bag toga bc she "saw herself" in the white woman owner. Even Kevin didn't know why Webb turned down the deal. Curlmix made $400k in under a year and is a growing, successful biz on track to make millions. They needed the money to FILL BACK ORDERS!!! If the two were lighter they would have easily gotten a deal, esp from Webb. This is unconscious bias on full display. You may not emphathize with the black experience or see that we get turned down for bs reasons - not your fault - but this was hard to watch, especially when she turned them down and then joked about stealing their idea. This is cold, hard reality for most black entrepreneurs.
