    Great job and helpful video. Love this product. Do you topcoat with anything or leave it as is after putting on the stain and finishing oil

      Thank you so much! Yes me too! No you don't need to, it glides on so nicely - I used over GF milk paint which does have a built in sealer, but the SFO provides additional durability as well since it has a topcoat built into it.

    I love your videos, they're all very helpful and informative. I did have a question: Does that stain and finishing oil have a strong odor?
    I guess I should add that I have used Minwax stain for staining as well as a glaze and it literally makes me sick to my stomach, so I'm hoping this product might be a little less overwhelming. Thank you.

    Thanks for that! I was wondering about glaze so I'm happy to see this. Do you think that this glaze could be used over a stain on raw wood? Or does it need to be over paint? I was looking for something to replace black wax on a weathered wood project and I was thinking maybe paint or glaze to get a similar effect.

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  4 роки тому +1

      Liz Alford of course. Because this is actually a stain not a glaze absolutely you can use this on raw wood I do it all the time - that is what it’s intended for. This would work awesome for what your talking about it.

    Beautiful job! 💗 Thank you! Is it best to use this product before or after stenciling since it is oil based?

      @BorninaBarnBoutique  3 роки тому +1

      I personally don’t use stencils, so I don’t have a lot of experience with them, but I would say afterwards!

      It can I would recommend scuff sanding to ensure good adhesion anytime you are painting over a top coated piece

    I used white stain and finishing oil over Limestone I had painted on chairs, just wanting a little more sheen and protection. I wish I had seen the idea of the shop towels/mineral spirits before I started. I used a pad to apply and wipe off the sfo, but it's been three days and the chairs are still tacky. I think I must have left too much product on unintentionally (there are a lot of turnings on the chair posts, and that's where it's the most tacky). Can I try the mineral spirits wipe down at this point, or do I have to start over? I still need to re-weave the seats of the chairs and need to finish this up for my customer. Help, please!

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  3 роки тому +1

      So SFO can remain tacky for a few reasons- if the products was applied too heavy, not wiped enough and your climate. The issue is your past the open time of wiping back and could possibly lift some of the paint if you try and wipe down with mineral spirits. You may end up removing spots of the finish leaving the finish looking uneven. When I do this process - the product hasn’t even set up yet, it’s still wet. My suggestion is let it dry, see how it looks and then if necessary lightly sand back any drips or runs and lightly apply more SFO to match the rest of the finish.

    For me this is the look that I want also, rather than using normal glazing method. How long did you have to wait before you sealed the entire piece & what did you use - or didn't you? Thanks for sharing!

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  4 роки тому

      Roz Hay hi. Thanks for watching. I used GF Milk paint which is self sealing/built in topcoat. So I didn’t add an additional top coat - with this product you don’t need to seal first so it will work well. I waited 48 hours after painting to do this technique

    It’s beautiful! Can I use this on my bookshelves? I painted them with cabinet and trim paint. They are a little stark next to another white piece I have which looks like it has a little gray in it.

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  Рік тому

      So I can't speak to the adhesion with other paints (like a household or latex paint). I would suggest testing this out in a small area or even do a test on a side piece to see how it will pair together

    Do you think this would work well over cured GF milk paint and also over cured flat out flat topcoat?

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  2 роки тому

      I have used over satin but never the flat out flat, it may not wipe off as easy, but then again with the mineral spirits it may work just fine.

      Not as much as if you left it solid - but I use a paint and topcoat in one or topcoat my piece prior to add this.

    Hi there did you use a top coat before you stained? & after you stained? Thanks for sharing

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  2 роки тому +1

      I used a paint with a topcoat in it so I did not add an additional topcoat before or after. You can if you want to though add one before. This stain that I used as a glaze also has a built in topcoat and is oil based so you would not want to topcoat after you “glaze”.

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  3 роки тому

      They advise on their website that it can over whites. I have used over light grey and been fine. But I would be leery to use it over white as a top coat or anything unless you are going for a stained look or one in which a little yellowing won't affect the look of your piece. What I did here ebony over a color or cappuccino over a color will not, but I am wiping back most of the product and not using as a solid topcoat

    Is this water proof and scratch resistant

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  2 роки тому

      No its not waterproof - water resistant - unless you use a marine varnish or epoxy you aren't going to get waterproof. As for scratch resistant - it won't scratch easily, but with any product your put on furniture it is not impervious to scratching if you drag something across it, lean up against it with a sharp object, etc.
