If I ever succeed in design business it will be just because of you chris , I can't even explain in words how much I respect you and look up to you so much. You are truly amazing . I used to feel bad that I didn't make it to design school but not anymore because this practical knowledge is much more valueble than a degree.

It's absolutely crazy. I've been running my own company since 2004, working my butt off but I've always lived from hand to mouth. Only these past few months I've started to learn and understand how to really do things the right way. At University they taught us how to design and be a good employee at a big design company, but never how to run your own business, work with finances and deal with clients. Most creative people just want to do what they love and ignore the money and marketing side of the business. Your UA-cam channel is as valuable as gold! I'm awake now! I'm expanding. Thank you so much for all the effort you put into these videos. You give so many designers hope and FREEDOM :D

I think it is important to acknowledge that in this day and age mentors do not have to be a person sitting next to you. I would certainly consider this channel and many books to be mentors. Everything is fluid and mentorship is a matter of your personal approach to and acquisition of knowledge.

      Drew Douglas 💯💥

    • @TenderloinsToughest
      @TenderloinsToughest 7 років тому +20

What Drew Douglas said. The information is out there, you just have to dig for it and be tenacious in your pursuits. The face of mentorship in the the digital age is quite different from what you'd conventionally think of, as maybe a person sitting next to you, coaching you along the way. Time is far too limited so it's important to find those new ways to learn that have developed with the times. Also, if you can't find one human to mentor you, you can find several that are able to give you smaller bits of time and you can learn from multiple sources and develop your own theories based off of that.

'You can survive if ONE OF THE TWO is present in an organisation -> 1. Good Leadership 2.Healthy and robust Culture. ' Loved the way you put that! Now I realise how some Senior Managers make an amazing mark amidst their subordinates who stick on despite their companies being super crappy! Something to remember when I fill those shoes.

Lol went to school for graphic design. Stopped halfay through because life happened. Worked in the financial industry now for 10 years, customer service, collections, auditing, and sold cars for a year. I feel like I'm primed a little in the business skills, but coming back to the start and pursuing the clients on the side now and building up my portfolio. I can say that even though I deterred I've learned some amazing things.

“You planned on failing for three months” That right there is great because we or at least I never plan for failure, just for success (even though the fear to fail is there). I love the concept of planning to fail because that assumes you WILL fail and sets you up for winning even if you fail 🙌🏼

Good content. Something that did strike me was the comment about not taking a vacation in 5 years. That's great if that's your thing. Another option is to be able to get systems in place to be able to make that happen. The "work life balance" is a pendulum that swings to each side and one side cannot be focused on for too long without removing from the other. A good book to read is Tim Ferris's 4 hour work week to see how you can put systems in place to be able to step away when needed

When I first started my freelancing , it was never planned, I started with a logo then a website to my teachers friend and the work started to flow, I even started to pay my university fees... which made me think why would I work for someone when I can work on my own... that was in 2001 ... when we used to charge really high prices easily... now it's getting harder and harder... but after watching a couple of your videos .. u made me reshuffle my mind and continues bringing design work :)

I just can't be enough grateful to this channel.
The tough time when I am all caught up in doing my dumb Designing job and my ever challenging freelance work which I love to do after my job...
I have always been trying to change the design standards going around me because no design agencies in my city (Vadodara, India) are doing an up-to-the-mark job!
I just aspire to amplify the Designing standards in my city!
So just grabbing all the bits and pieces of golden inspiration from you to build my brand and help other businesses with quality branding they deserve.
Thanks a lot, The whole Team! Much love to you guys!
YOU BE THE TRUE GURUS OF MINE!

I have only viewed a small portion of the content you guys have. But if you're curious as to what are my favorite channels. Miles Beckler, Chase Reiner SEO, Josh Bachynski and Jerry Banfield. These people offer content that relates very closely to what I do, marketing product and apps on the internet.
From what I've seen your content is geared towards designers and design. I don't necessarily have a urge to consume all of your content like the content creators previously mentioned. Reason being because I feel like your talking to designers.
The video Chris did with Al Martinez is one of the first the video I saw of you guys and is my favorite one. I felt like Al was talking to me just as the people mentioned previously do. I'm sure he has keen knowledge on CPA and SEO. If you were to do a series of videos similar to this one, I would view it immediately.

It is great to watch again to see how futur has grown and changed over time - seeing where you were, and where you are now is massively impressive - but there is something charming about the slightly clunky, less slick and more relatable style of the presentation 🙂

So crazy that you guys are releasing this video right now. 2 friends and I are completely tired of working our corporate design jobs. Separately we're bringing in freelance clients and recently we've decided to bring our clients together and work on these projects as one. It feels good knowing that maybe something could be starting here. I know we have SOOO much to learn but I want to say thanks to the team at Blind and Futur for all the information you are providing to the community. This info is key to the business part of the hustle (the scary part) but the more I read and listen to valuable lessons like this the more confident I feel tackling the next part of my career. Thanks again and keep them coming!

I love when Jose caballer is on, something about the polarization of both on a discussion. It’s quite genuine, cause of the balance it creates. Analytical vs practical, pragmatic vs dogmatic. It’s a lot of fun to watch each other’s style, it’s make pure entertainment. The other cats do t have Jose,s charm and humor. Maybe it’s a Latino thing, but I grew up in Eagle Rock with mostly Asian bros, but I’m a Latino. So go figure, but I see their energy as well thought out process. Which explains the viewer number, I come from a filmmaker background. So more of the fun stuff is what has made me a fan. And a beli ver of Do,s and Caballers theories. They’re like the new Scientologist s of advertising.lmao

Regarding 3 month runway: even if you're getting good work right from the start this a a good practice. A lot of my clients practice Net 90. That means that once I send them the invoice I might not see a check for 3 months.
