Sandra, another fascinating video covering techniques unfamiliar to me. Using gouache on top of colored pencil gives a nicely textured result on the feathers of your bird. Thank you for sharing this with us. Lisa🕊
Thank you for this video. It was very interesting to see how the gouache could be layered over the watercolor pencil. I never would have thought of that. In the swatches, will you add any water to them? Im curious to see the contrast between the color of the dry pencil and when wet. Looking forward to the next video.
I actually tried to wet the dry pencils with water off camera! but since they don't get reactivated like watercolor pencils, I noticed that the pencil still leaves some pigment residue when wet, so when applying water to them you get a very transparent color wash, but the pencils lines are still very marked on the paper and very visible through the wash! While watercolor pencils, the pencils get completely dissolved by water leaving you a watercolor wash. It's hard to explain by words but I hope you get what I mean!
Sandra Ruberto Thank you! This is very helpful. So many interesting techniques and ways of doing things. Thank you for sharing your art and videos with us.
The painting turned out beautiful! How do you find the pencils to layer? I presume its easier to layer watercolor pencils - after dissolving the pencil lines with water.

Thank you Adela! 💕 I find them to layer pretty well! It doesn’t show much in this video but in my first review I was pleased of the result I achieved!
