A good dyno tune will probably help reduce the heat, most bikes run very lean these days. The tune doesn't have to chase horse power just make the bike run more efficiently and cooler.

      That’s a different angle. I like it.

You have a good point with that. Most new bikes are running so lean that in very hot weather it can damage the engine.

Just noticed your rear ABS line is getting close to your rear wheel. Same thing happened with mine and after a long off-road ride it moved into contact with the rear wheel and very quickly wore through the ABS cable and I lost ABS, traction control and the explorer mode ! I’ve repaired the wire and now have cable tied the ABS line to the rear brake line to stop this happening again. I can send you some photos of how I’ve secured it if you’d like me to. Pete

My dealer told me the cat delete would void the warranty here in the uk. I will say the camel heat shield has helped a lot, and it’s a 5 min install. I also did the engine case saver, mainly because i like the look.

Looking good, and coming along just fine Steve.
If someone's gonna put a sticker with their channel name on their bike, they can:
    A. Put a sticker on so, (only when stopped somewhere), someone might come up real close and peer at it and say - "hey it's BBA"!!
    B. Do what you've done, save people a lot of hassle!!
I like your version mate 😆

I did the cat delete and it made only a slight difference to heat but not much. It did make a difference to the sound 😉. Adding the cat heat shield also made a slight improvement so in combination it is better but not perfect. I recently removed the metal plate on the pre-filter. More air feels like a slight improvement in power low down but I could be imaging it because it also increased induction sound so is sounds racy. It have also noticed a slight pop on the overrun now. I run a Wings exhaust on my bike. I am waiting on the Dirt Tricks cam chain pre-tensioner that is supposed to make a difference on the rattly mechanical noise of the engine 🤞 because that is my final bug bear. So far 13k on the bike and none of the mods have impacted reliability. 👍

A couple of additional mods I’ve made are a mesh seat cover and a tool holder inside the luggage rack on the LHS to mirror the silencer.

    • @BigBikeAdventures
      @BigBikeAdventures  6 місяців тому

I was looking a that gap on the LHS, thinking I can fit a tool roll or spare tubes in there. 👌
Mesh seat is a good idea too.

Smart mods. Genuine prefilter is the way to go. Btw I think your prefilter frame is upside down. The little tabs help hold the blanking plates for the snorkel in place. And make sure you grease EVERY gap and joining piece between the plastics around the prefilter kit

I did cat delete. Other than way to loud on long highway miles , when over 4000 rpms. It runs great and the engine temps are fine. Won't cause any engine issues. Its fuel injection it won't lean out the mass airflow module/ computer controls that.

@@BigBikeAdventures I can highly recommend the E-Scottoiler. And using the twin-injector instead of the single-injector.
By that both sides of the chain gets lubricated very well. Scottoiler itself has not a solution for attaching the twin-injector on the 890 and Norden 901. But i used a 12 cm long 15 mm U alumium that i glued with strong 2 comp glue at the swingarm. And inside that i made a 11 mm wide nylon strip where the twin-injector is attached on. The nylon strip can slide through the U shape aluminium. And through the alumium i did saw a 30 mm long and 5 mm space. Drilled one 5 mm hole through the nylon strip that sits inside the U aluminium. And used a 5 mm little bolt through both to fix the nylon strip so the twin-injector is at the perfect place to oil the chain. 30 mm slide possibility is enough to adjust the twin or dual-injector to the right position above the chain.
Had that E-Scottoiler on my past three bikes. Did more then 70000 km'ters with one chain due to the Scottoiler. One my 1190R.
That E-Scottoiler is a blessing. The best add-on after market product for a bike ever made.
My fix for the duall-injector works perfect on all 890 and Norden 901 and Expedition. When glued at the right position on the top and on the back of the swingarm the chain can never catch it and break it of the swingarm. After 8000 km'ter on my Norden 901 Expedition it still works flawlessly. It will keep my chain going for atleast 50000 km'ters and probably more. Also the sprockets.

From my research, best decat is arrow which has some mesh or resistance in the middle section. It’s more expensive. The cheaper straight decat pipes produce louder result with some minor back firing etc. My mate did this first but then bought the Arrow later, and now thinking of going back to cat. if you do the decat mod then I think you’ll get a better outcome with the Arrow. I’m leaving my cat in, until after the winter. I only notice the heat when over 30 deg C in traffic. The rally seat also helps reduce some heat as your a tad higher and can move around. Only $300. Cheers

I still have the cat with the Camel ADV shield on the 890 but I think about using the delete. I’m not a fan of cats to begin with but like you said, while it’s under warranty best safe with the cat in there.
With 11,+++ miles I’ve only changed the air filter once but I’ve been thinking about doing what you did there as well. Too many stories about dirt in the upper engine causing issues. I think the pre filter is a great idea.

@@BigBikeAdventures Winter dole drums here it’s been a really wet Winter, seems like solid rain since November.
I’m the same, I like a bit of growl from my bikes. Plus lightening up the bike would be a good thing.
Taco Moto sells a kit to open up the stock exhaust on the 501 so I grabbed one to let that bike breathe better. I should look into doing the same for the 890.
