  • Summer underqilt hands on / first impressions.
This is a great gear but as an extension to what we have.
When the temperatures drops below the comfort, especially when there is a wind. It might be dificult for a beginner to have a comfort sleep.

Hej! Pozdrawiam!

What was the thickness of the replacement shock cord you used? Do you think 2.5mm would work?

I think I use 3mm, but I just went to haberdashery and asked for something slighly thinner in different colour and just gave it a try. The ones I took from previous hammock I would assume 4mm. So going into 2.5mm might be risky. Especially if you would use it on heavier underquilt. While 4mm works perfect I have a limited trust for 3mm. However they never failed me.

@@wildhike perfect, thank you. It's also for the selva 120 so will also try 3mm

Thank you for the review and english subtitles! I do have some question - as you have must been experienced with it by now - I have issues with my Chameleon hammock with OTUL Lite (it doesnt feature side hooks), simply I cannot get this UQ right, it does work perfectly with my DD Frontline Hammock, but no luck with Chameleon, still lot of cold spots and bad experience in mild weather (15°C) when wind is present. Since I am a happy user of Cumulus equipment, incl. Taiga 250, 360 and Selva 450, I was thinking to leave OTUL for my GF using Frontline, and pair my Chameleon with Selva 120 for summer bike trips, when I want to go super light. You dont specify in your review the temperature you was testing in it, my question is then - is this UQ good enough to serve lets say to 12 °C with a little bit of wind? Since I have a feeling from your review that this UQ is not meant to be used as primary and only layer. It will be paired with Taiga 250, which has a footbox. If you can advice me it would be great for me :-)

I think it would be ok for 12°C but wind will make it tricky, as this short quilt often requires readjustments when you change position. And this is why I usually tend to choose Selva 300. For longer trips I want to have a good sleep and be ready for temperature drops. For one nighters it's usually not a big deal to take bigger one and not have to bother with readjusting. But I'm not doing much hammocking when temperature will definitely not drop below 10°C at night.

@@wildhike Thanks.. I settled for Selva 120 with extra 30g of down to secure little bit the windy conditions. My current UQ was rated to 7, so it will be enough I hope, plus the small package and light weight is a plus for my bikepacking.

@@goringo_how do you feel about it now after a year?
I have a Bushmen Glow -12 for colder weather but I all looking for something with less volume for day trips and mild weather.

@@Antrepeas Looking to my last year logs, the lowest temp I have used Selva 120 as stand-alone was 9°C without wind and this was not pleasant night, I was cold. On two other occasions I used Selva 120 in min. 13 °C, with mild wild, It was OK-ish. On other I had very windy night with 15°C lowest, I used Selva 120 paired with OTUL Lite and it was fine. As result, I am confident to take Selva 120 (150 actually, I have 30g additional down) to 15°C, anything lower than that, I include OTUL or go straight for 450. Actually I thinking to get Selva 300 to fill the gap and let 450 to partner, but the prices... :/ In my case I sleep very often in range of 900 -1100m hights.

@@goringo_ thanks! What do you wear when you sleep with the Selva 150? Merino wool long underwear is pretty standard for me unless it's a really warm summer night. I usually hang in pretty windy places near the ocean so I am using a underquilt protector from Dutchware that is great against the wind.
