    Canik makes great pistols. Their triggers are amazing but the price for the quality that you get is best part. They make a weapon that's worth more than what they ask for them. Very rare these days to get that kind of quality at the price they sell for.

    • @GSquaredTactical
      @GSquaredTactical  Рік тому +5

      Yeah and one day they will know that if they don’t already and the price will go up. Especially if they get a presents here in the states. They was genius selling them so low as a new company because people bought them with the idea of well what do I have to lose only to find out the found a gem. I remember when we was buying the standard sft for a shade over $200 now they are $400 so they have already went up but people are still buying them because they are great. Enjoyed the video. I picked my MC9 up today so haven't been to the range yet. It's hard to find this CANIK in stock anywhere, In fact I called before I drove an hour to the gun shop and they told me they just got them in and had 10 in stock. By the time I got there I purchased the last one. My EDCs have been my Glock 27, Glock 43 and M&P Shield. This is my first CANIK and I am excited to take it to the range. It has so many more features than my other carry guns not to mention capacity and for under $400.

    My first ever Canik(TP9SF Elite One) had FTF and FTE issues with every single mag.. Canik mailed me another spring but the issues persisted. Sent it to Canik for repairs and when it was sent back it ran without problems. Still ended up selling it just because I was still scared it wouldn’t do it’s job when it mattered most.
    Bought a TP9 Elite SC a year or two later to give them another chance and that particular model has ran flawlessly from day one 🔥 maybe I’ll role the dice with the MC9 also.
    On a side note: I did just purchase the Mossberg MC2SC, what an amazing and underrated EDC option that not enough are talking about! Might just replace my Sig P365XL as my conceal carry! ❤️‍🔥

    I watched a video where at one point of production where the firing pin spring was too strong and would react too fast and create a stovepipe. Only on the 115 gr rounds. It was initially set up for nato rounds 124 gr. They have acknowledged this issue, perhaps too well. Another I saw had the issue for about the first 100 rounds or so, and it cleared up. Good job.

    I really like Canik guns and own 2. The MC9 and the TP9 Elite Combat Executive. I’ve never had an issue with the TP9 but the MC9 with the first 200 rounds I had multiple FTFs and one failure to go into battery. After about 150 rounds it started to run smoother but I don’t trust it now. I’ll see how the next 300-500 round go but for now, I’ll stick with my G43X MOS. The ammo I was shooting was 124 grain Sig V-Crown and 124 grain S&B round ball

    Gentlemen, thanks for another great video. Kimber Mako guy here. I finally found a MC9 in stock at MSRP and will get it sometime this week. I have been a little concerned with some of the reviews on this gun regarding the FTF issues but after the break in period I had with my TP9SC, I’m not too concerned. After watching this video, I am less concerned. I carry Sig V-Crown 124gr. As my defensive ammo and shoot with Norma 124 TMJ at the range. If they perform well even with a break in period, then I’m good to go.
    On a different note, I was watching another You Tube review on this gun and the reviewer made an interesting observation regarding the mags not dropping freely. He noticed that empty mags eject just fine but loaded mags don’t. I thought that was interesting so I put a micrometer on loaded mags and empty. Sure enough, depending on round count, the empty mags were between .79 and .80 inches wide and loaded, between .80 and .81. Again, depending on whether I was measuring the 12 round or 15 rounders. Definitely not scientific and I have no idea why this would be the case, but I thought I would share. BTW all 4 mags were OEM.
    One of the commenters posed the question; Why would you want to eject a full mag anyway? Given that this MC9’s primary purpose is self defense, why would you?

    • @GSquaredTactical
      @GSquaredTactical  Рік тому +2

      The only issue I can imagine would (with those stars) be the mag swells upon loading with ammunition not allowing it to drop freely which is very interesting. I personally would not want to eject a full mag but that’s assuming you never have a FTF or anything of the kind. Because in those cases you may need to clear the chamber, drop the mag that has ammunition in it because you haven’t finished firing all the rounds. That’s a tough call. Eventually though you start to wonder how practical it is what people complain about. Like you mentioned who would drop a loaded mag? This is a toughy for sure but thanks for watching Bill!

    • @GSquaredTactical
      @GSquaredTactical  Рік тому +1

      That’s true you probably wouldn’t want to eject a full mag lol. We had a few problems ejecting even empty mag at the range however on the table before loading any of them during the tabletop they fell out fine. Who knows it’s a non issue for me. Thanks for watching and commenting Bill

    • @MarcusWilliams
      @MarcusWilliams Рік тому +2

      I also use V-crown 124gr as my defense ammo and my MC9 had no problems eating it. After a few hundred rounds of different range ammo (Blazer 115, Magtech 115, and a couple of others) I haven't had a single problem. No ftf, return to battery problems, fte, nothing.

    I got the Canik mc9 the very first time at the range in the first mag I put 9 115 range ammo and 3 115 hollow points in the 12 round mag and as soon as it came down to the hollow points it jammed. However I have replicated that many times since and absolutely no problems! It only happened one time and it was on the first mag,

      Probably just that new gun break-in period causing the jams. Alot of guns from alot of brands will do that when they are brand spanking new. It's so that the guns work precisely how they are supposed to after breaking in. Otherwise, if they function perfect before being broken in, then once they're broken in, they'd instead function like a worn out gun. So that bit of stiffness when brand new, is a good thing. Think of any failure to feed issues within the first 500 rounds kinda like being on the same level as a brand new car having that new car smell.

    Appreciate the video. Got mine yesterday not shit yet. But like many have said try half slide pull back on the slide. See if it goes back into battery. Mine doesn't without pushing forward. I grabbed my 320, 365, glock 43x and hellcat and tried that. All slid back into battery no issue. I'm not saying when I shoot it might not be issue. But seeing this I'm sure you can understand the concern. Did you try that with yours like to see a quick video showing if yours does it.

    Love my TP9SFx and Rival... but... my MC9 couldn't get through a mag without a feed failure or fail to go into battery. Usually just once per mag, and sometimes twice. The rounds extracted each had a gash on them. Might be because mine is #22 off the line, but Century Arms is supposedly taking it back in for repairs. I say supposedly, because it's been over 2 weeks since I sent them my info for the return, and they've been unresponsive.

    I own 4 Canik pistols, the TP9 SC Elite, the TP9 SF Elite, the TP9 SF and the MC9. The first 3 fed and shot flawlessly, but my MC9 had feeding problems with IMI 115gr JHP. The first rounds I always shoot through any semi-auto pistol will be JHPs. If it begins with JHPs without any hiccups, it usually has no issues. My MC9 encountered issues with its 2nd mag, the 15 rounder, but it started having issues with other mags I tried as well. The IMI 115gr JHP has knuckles at the opening of its hollow point. These knuckles are where these rounds hung up at the bottom or very beginning of the feed ramp. After I got home, I tried to manually feed the same IMI rounds through it and had the same issues. This told me that it needed a ramp job, which I did with my Dremel tool and 2000 grit sandpaper. I then manually fed the IMI rounds without any issues.
    The next time I took it to the range, I ran 50 rounds through it without any feeding issues, but I encountered two failure to fire because of light strikes. When these happened, I reset the striker and the rounds fired. I knew that is was a striker issue. Something had gotten into the striker area that was interfering with its spring.
    After I got home, I removed the striker, and sprayed some Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber inside the area where the striker goes and on the striker itself to clean them. I lubed the striker and reinstalled it. I also removed the striker block and its spring to examine them and all looked well.
    Yesterday I ran 100 rounds of both Norma 124gr FMJ and Blazer 124gr FMJ through it, along with several rounds of Federal 9MS 147gr JHP without any issues. I've given several pistols ramp jobs that had given me feeding issues and I do not consider ramp jobs to be a difficult job, but then I know what I'm doing. There is no doubt in my mind that I have corrected my MC9s issues and that I can now trust it. My other 3 Caniks have eaten 105gr, 115gr, 124gr, 124gr+P and 147gr JHPs, as well as 115gr, 124gr, 124gr+P (NATO) and 158gr FMJs without a single hiccup. Canik makes great, well made pistols. Their triggers are excellent and I consider these pistols to be very reliable. I paid $438.00 for my Canik MC9. I paid less for the other Caniks I own. All were brand new when I bought them. I'd recommend any of the model Caniks I own to anyone.

After cleaning it the gun shot flawlessly, I have since purchased the same gun and did not clean it right away and the same happened to mine also after cleaning it’s never missed a beat, I also purchased the MC9 but cleaned it right away then shot a 100 round and it was flawless so I’d say clean it as soon as you get it.

      It’s almost like no matter how much you prove it people create new criteria that it must meet. Initially everyone said it was out of the box and seemed to get a little better. Then people said it was the spring, then the 115 grain ammo, then the hollow point ammo, then the feed ramp and magazines. I mean we have proved all of this not to be the case with ours as we are currently 800 rounds in without a single issue to speak of. It’s like people have convinced themselves there is a problem or they had a problem and are convinced you must have had a problem and are lying about it. After 20yrs of competition shooting and 15+ years of M&9 9mm Pro (5" match gun) I finally made a change. Nothing wrong with my M&P, I just wanted a change before I got too old to do anything about it. Went with Canik Mete SFx. Loved it except for one thing. Bought a Mete SFT. Loved it except for one thing. The one thing? Recoil spring is too strong and made reloads difficult w/o grabbing the slide which is inefficient. I imagine Canik wants to make sure NATO spec ammo (i.e. hot loads) does not upset their handguns? But I shoot range ball ammo, in volume. So, I bought Canik reduced power (blue tip) recoil springs. Problem solved. Now, for the real problem with Canik: I've been waiting 6+ weeks for my Rival S Darkside pistol to arrive. They have apparently taken such an influx of orders for the steel frame Rivals that it stifled the supply chain. I can only hope this second year of production has incorporated tweaks to make the Rival S even better than the original.

    I had many issues with my MC9 returning to battery.- feeding issues.
    Took my new Canik Mete MC9 out Easter Weekend. Had been beyond excited to see what it could do as I consider myself a Canik fan.
    I have a Canik Elite and a Canik Elite SC and both have been flawless, but wanted a thinner Micro to carry.
    I mostly carry a Springfield Hellcat with an Apex trigger.
    I am not overly happy with MY accuracy with the Hellcat (or my Taurus GX-4) so I was very much hoping for better results with the bigger frame MC9 with the Canik trigger.
    I shoot my Caniks MUCH better than any of the Micros.
    While my Hellcat did have the trigger binding issue that others were reporting on the first gen guns (I fixed with the Apex) otherwise I have had zero issues with either the Hellcat or the GX-4 besides the optic plates coming loose every so often. (I have not used locktite on them because I plan to put optics on them soon.)
    First day with the Canik MC9 was great, put about 100 rounds of new Federal FMJ 115gr. Brass through it and it was flawless.
    I shot it MUCH better than the Hellcat in back to back tests. Where I would go back and forth between 2 8" plates, I could go 5/5 with the Canik and would go 1/5 or 2/5 with the Hellcat.
    I was ready to make the switch and make this my new carry gun!
    I texted friends to tell them how awesome it had been.
    Fast forward 1 day.
    I went out and decided to switch to new Federal FMJ 115gr. ALUMINUM!
    It would often NOT return to battery.
    I would load 5-6 in a mag, drop the slide and it would chamber the first round. After that first shot , most of the time, the second round would get 'caught up' preventing the gun going into battery. On inspection the bullet would have a large long scrape in the copper where it was catching on something and not feeding properly. This repeated on almost every single mag of the Aluminum and continued when I switched back to the previous brass, although it was slightly less frequent. All together, I think I had 10+ feeding issues preventing the gun going into battery on a very quick and disappointing 50 round day. (Still shot well when it did fire.)
    The next morning I went out and just used the first brass again, I had 1 issue in the first mag and the rest of my 150 round day went well with zero issues.
    ???
    None of my other handguns, including my two Caniks, have had any prior issues running the Aluminum.
    The only thing I have that hates Aluminum (and HPs) is my Stribog A3.
    Ran the MC9 straight from the box and did not clean or oil and any point.
    I plan to take it back out in a couple weeks, clean and oil, and run some more Brass and test out a few HPs as well.
    Will have to put a lot more flawless rounds through this before I can trust it with my life and that is a real disappointment for me.
    I want this to be my carry gun, but as of right now, it has to be a pass.
    I will add that I only used the 12 round MC9 mag so far.
    They do not drop free (yet)
    When I got my Elite SC the mags also did not drop free. Noticed on the inside of the mag well there were 2 protruding guide lines on each side and on my regular Elite one side was less pronounced. I took a few minutes and filed a little on the inside on my SC and BOOM the mags dropped free.
    The walls on the MC9 mag well are MUCH MUCH thinner and will flex with a little effort without a mag in. Not worried as it seems very solid with a mag in.
    Also of note, the loaded chamber indicator slightly sticks up and is not flush at the back when empty unlike my other Caniks.
    Also of note, the Safety blade on the trigger compresses 'into' the trigger unlike my others which remain flush with the trigger when compressed.
    This causes the trigger to have 2 slightly pronounced edges on the trigger which is in the least noticeable and at most annoying.
    Did NOT seem to affect my shooting it at all.
    Also of note, the entire trigger shoe has some left/right play in it that my other Caniks do not have.
    Did NOT seem to affect my shooting at all.

      I was on vacation last week and went out shooting a few times with the MC9.
      Mostly ran Frderal FMJ 115 brass, using 12 round mag and only loading 6 or less.
      I had 2 failure to go into battery out of 100 rounds or so.
      Both had the scrapes on the bullet.
      Tried some HPs, I just ran a few of each.
      NPA HELO Monolithic copper HP 115gr
      Winchester USA Ready JHP 124gr +p
      Winchester Defender JHP 124gr +p
      Ammo Inc Signature JHP 115gr
      Everything worked fine except the Ammo Inc.
      The Ammo Inc went into battery but WOULD NOT allow the slide to come back and eject the unfired round. (I was checking the rounds to see if nose was catching on the feed ramp)
      Only way I could get the round out was to fire it.
      Did this on all 6 Ammo Inc rounds I tried.
      The Ammo Inc stuff did not have this issue in my Arex Delta L.
      Continue to shoot the MC9 much better than my Hellcat or GX4.
      Whatever QC issues my gun (and others) are having, sure it will be fixed soon with new gen. They say not to buy the first model years of cars for a reason.

      Just picked up a TP9DA... flawless and accurate after about 250 rounds. Personally, I've experienced jamming with all sorts of brands. IMO it seems ppl have more of an issue with the Canik brand not being an American company so they knit pick it, yet they're completely OK with their Austrian hand gun, even when it jams. IDK, but I love my Canik, I'm completely sold

Either way you’ll know if it performs or not which at the end of the day is all that really matter if you plan to buy the gun. I can talk all I want about feel in the hand, length of pull and accuracy and you my buy the gun and hate all those things because you hands are different. I will say that I got mine and immediately had issues with sig Vcrown, but only when I went to chamber the first round with the slide release. The round would ramp dive every time from slide release. But if I chamber the round by pulling back on the slide it was feeding fine. Then every round would chamber fine during normal cycling. There is copper buildup on the bottom face of the feed ramp so I can tell the rounds are not chambering perfectly, but it runs and shoots just fine. No issues with ball ammo.

    Got one as soon as it came out and it has failure to return to battery issues out of the box.
    Extraction spring is the cause, currently have a piece of wood jamming open the extractor to get it loosened. Some have removed the spring in order to grind off a coil, I’m trying to avoid that by compressing as much as I can over the course of the next 7 days.

      I would guess it could be stacked tolerance. If the spring is as heavy as allowed, the slide is cut to the one side of tolerance, the extractor is at the other side of tolerance, etc. Modern manufacturing is darn good but it is not always perfect.

    • @GSquaredTactical

    • @Androctonus84
      @Androctonus84 Рік тому +1

      @@stevenwagner9912 this really does seem to be the problem. The ones I’ve seen have mediocre metal finishing on friction surfaces, like the feed ramp, where you can see some tool marks. That’s to be expected in a gun at this price point, as are looser tolerances, where they aren’t going to take the time and expense to do a top-notch polishing job or keep tolerances super-tight, and if you get enough tolerance stacking, you get malfunctions.

I have shot 1000 rounds through it with a mix of defense rounds and range ammo and add in some Syntech competition ammo and she loves it all. She shoots best with the 124s but she will eat anything I feed her and she will run dirty (I clean them regularly but with this one I wanted to test it out). Very first mag I shot was the 12rd mag and it had 2 failure to ejects. I ended up shooting 150 rds and had 5 total failures. It happened with both mags, and for me usually happened somewhere in the middle of the shooting the mag. I’m hoping its just a break-in issue and if I shoot some higher grain I won’t have issues.

    I haven’t seen anyone having issues with hollow point/SD ammo. In all the videos and posts I’ve seen the issues were with 115gr range ammo. Some say that when they switch to heavier or more powerful ammo the problem goes away. The problem seems to be a combination of a lack of polishing of metal friction surfaces and too heavy extractor and/or striker springs that make the resistance against the recoil spring just enough to cause it to hang up about 1/8” out of battery. Several guntuber videos are out there already demonstrating the failure to return to battery. Not everyone is having this issue, but it’s so common that just doing a search for “MC9” on UA-cam brings up videos showing this issue in just the first 3-4 results without even including any mention of problems or malfunction in the search terms.
    QC issues usually mean a lack of consistency, so it isn’t surprising that some work and some don’t. Even when the first Sig P365s were having issues, it wasn’t universal. One of my friends has one of the very first ones, and he has never experienced a single failure after over 3000 rounds. On the other hand, I waited until they supposedly had all the issues worked out, and yet mine was a complete jam-o-matic that still wouldn’t run even after two trips back to Sig. So yes, it’s completely reasonable that you got two good ones even though the problem is widespread. There are at least 2-3 times as many videos showing reviews where the gun runs great, so getting two in a row that do is not surprising. But at least half a dozen guntubers have documented this issue, scores of people are posting about it, and I’ve personally witnessed it in one example of the gun on the range, so the problem does seem to be real and widespread, even if you don’t experience it with two guns. Two is still a very, very small sample in a run of tens of thousands. It doesn’t mean that your experience is invalid, but it also doesn’t mean that there isn’t a common problem with this gun model.
