These are like history lessons for guitar nerds. So informative.!! Normal people would never understand how absolutely awesome these videos are. Thank you so much for making these. Wouldn't it be great if all these players from the 80s got together and made a channel for us.??
Thank you so much!!! That would be REALLY cool if some of these players got together and shared their music and secrets. Heck, I'd love to hear some of them tell stories and talk about their career and travels. Share some moments from their glory days, tour stories and "on the road" randomness, working in the studio on famous albums, sharing licks/riffs, and more. That would VERY cool! : ) Thanks for watching and take care!
Hey gang - just a head's up but these licks are loosely based on what Warren played during this solo, so it's not 100% exact. And there was a typo I noticed with Lick #2. I incorrectly said "two unisons" and while the video was rendering, I created the transcription/tab that goes with this lesson. It wasn't until I watched the entire video today that I noticed this typo - and hey, typos happen - so it should be a minor 2nd (b9) between the high E & B string, mixed with a unison when it dips down to the G string. Also, Lick #3 is shown/written as a basic version of what he was playing during this solo, so while I made a basic variation of what he was doing, it was honestly a little hard to understand what he was playing during that section (accurately), as you could tell he was pumped from the roar of the crowd and that entire section is a little frantic and random. Just a head's up and thanks for watching!
Cool stuff. This video was from the 86 Invasion Tour. Filmed on the England leg of the tour. He still had the original Anaconda snakeskin with him. It's a shame there's no better quality footage of this. Keep up the great work.
Awesome. I love the history you impart in these lessons. Very cool. The history of rock guitar fascinates me, I love digging into the details. As a guy who came of age in the 80s, I love seeing this kind of material. 🤘🎸
Aside from the 'Eat 'em and Smile' album, DeMartini and Lynch were the two most influential guitarists who inspired my playing as a new guitar player. My mullet followed suit.
Thank you! : ) Warren really is a beast and is sorely missed from the scene these days. I wish he'd join forces with some other folks and start a new group. : )
Another Warren prodigy here, even though he doesn't know it. As a very young boy, I always loved the guitar and was a little obsessed with hearing it played. It wasn't until I heard Ratt back in 1985 that I almost immediately went and took my lawn cutting money combined with some horse trading and got my first electric guitar and small amp from a pawn shop....I played and practiced every day for about 6 years before I even looked up it seemed...Now 35 years later, I have many great memories of my bands and two walls of guitars...Still play almost every day. Warren Demartini.
@@LateNightLessons the last Ratt album with Carlos Cavazo on guitar as well was a perfect matchup with Warren. Was a great classic Ratt album. Shame it didn't continue, that was a great band lineup.
Warren always had a better knack for shredd than other guys of the era . his solos took on a more listenable nature and mu h more sophisticated sound. he definitely was one of if not the best player from the hair bands.
Tastiest player from the 80's without question. Always loved his very "slinky", in the pocket, almost slightly behind the beat timing sense. A very distinctive style. To my ears at least. I swear to God I wore that first Ratt album out.
Nice lesson Man, Just wanted to give a quick 2 cents.. 1) The footage of the solo is from the "Invasion Of Your Privacy" Tour, I say this because he's using the "Frenchie" Charvel which he didn't use much on the "Dancin'" tour of '86-'87. Also Bobby's kick drum heads have the confetti graphics of his "Invasion" kit. 2) The wide interval lick is one he nabbed off of Robbin Crosby, the other guitarist in Ratt. A lot of Robbin's solos had a variation on that interval lick between the 15th to 19th frets going back to the Mickey Ratt days, When Jake E. was with them. While I don't dislike Warren, He did tend to overshadow Robbin greatly as Crosby was much more a feel and melodic lead guitarist, whereas Warren was super fast and dexterous. Fact is though, Robbin was a much more accomplished songwriter & great guitarist himself who actually played a lot of solos erroneously credited to Warren sometimes. Sadly much like Steve Clark, He was vastly overshadowed, underrated, And largely pushed aside in the Flash and Speed wars.
Agreed. Warren took a few of Robbin's licks and just flashed them up. That said. Warren's sense of swing is up there with Scott Gorham and Eddie Van Halen. Also, I think Robbin was hit and miss. He had some cool licks, but sometimes it sounded like he was daisy chaining them together. Sad, because had he been more competitive and left the substances alone, he could have given many a run for their money.
Great video. Love the way you talk about the solos and players from back in the day. I finished high school in 1986 so I really idolized these guys and they are still my favorite players and bands. Thanks again!!!

Thank you and yes - watching some of those old live concerts and bootlegs of bands with fiery guitarists will usually result in seeing a glorified live guitar solo. I literally STRETCHED my fingers, every day, in various positions before & after practicing. I also used a contraption intended for martial arts finger strength called an “Eagle Catcher.” I had to spread my fingers to fit in the loops & then contract them inward toward my palm. That helped out, a lot. In retrospect, I spent every non-working, non-sleeping moment with a guitar in my hands or some type of contraption that I used to help strengthen my hands/fingers. Nowadays, I am a husband & father. I don’t get enough alone time with my “Mistresses” (my instruments). 😂

Holy cow! Dave, how are you not out touring as a sideman with some of the big names in Rock? Seriously...your technique is excellent! Thanks for continually inspiring me to pick up my guitar. Happy Thanksgiving!!
Any chance of figuring out the wide sliding vibrato that DeMartini and Lynch do? I’ve always been blown away when they do it but can’t find an explanation on how or what they’re doing.
David, your awesome brother. You talked about that stretch lick at the end. Did you know that George and Warren used to tease Jake about him having short fingers? Jake, got so pissed he came up with putting his left thumb on the fretboard, I believe it was the fifth fret E and B strings. He used it as an index finger and did this OMG lick with his pinky up around the 12 fret. I will see if I can find it. I haven't seen anyone other than Jake do it. Maybe you can shed some light on this? Mike
I’m noticing most of my favorite licks either have a lot of chromatic “half steppin” stuff going on and/or runs with back-to-back same notes on different strings. Pretty impressive how you pull these licks by ear out of crappy quality live footage. The real trick is making these licks work in a song. I mean during a live guitar solo you can play most anything and there’s nothing for it to clash with.
Jake E. Lee was originally in Ratt... in fact, I believe he wrote or co-wrote every song on Out of the Cellar except for Round and Round, and two others. Also, George Lynch was going to be in Ozzy Osbourne after Randy died. He was actually fired (in front of Jake) after Jake auditioned for the band.
Jake called Warren and basically set him up to be in Ratt after he left the band. Warren quit high school to be in Ratt. The correlation between the 3 friends is crazy. If a couple moves didn’t happen, Jake could’ve been known for being Ratt’s guitarist and George Lynch could’ve made an album with Ozzy.
Awesome, I kinda felt like warren was possibly stealing at least a bit of essence of George Lynch type phrases 😆 But he also holds his own. That trio You mentioned def influenced me and how my style formed.Thank you, great stuff here I could def use, I'm So rusty! Lol 🤙
I can't learn the riffs, chord sequences ratt/randy rhoads/ ect without tabs. If you ever run short of idea's for lessons on the paid site consider putting the ratt/ ozzy/ randy rhoads lessons in some written form.Very tough for me to see what the fingers are doing especially tricky chord's on other video's.
LATE NIGHT LESSONS, Warren DeMartini made a solo album maybe you can gets some more licks from his solo album here is the link ua-cam.com/video/vZox4VOX6vo/v-deo.html
Its funny u mention this..i noticed warden De martini sounding a lot like LYnch in fact the only guitarist I felt had any similar phrasing to George lynch.Their solos n phrases are over similar but George is my guy lol
VV Invasion had some insanity on it to be sure, but to be fair, he played with a pick between his thumb and first finger, while simultaneously fingerpicking arpeggios with his remaining fingers. Like Ricky Skaggs style athough with a Jackson into a Marshall stuffed with towels in the back, forcing the tubes to overheat.
The "I stretch farther" competition reached its finale when Jake would turn his hand around and use his thumb as his index finger! LOL! I do wonder what happened to Warren...he seemed to stop innovating around '87. I think he could have outdone George and Jake if he kept going
Man I was like watching some other vids and was like I want Warren D licks and poof Here its hopefully discuss why people thing that the Dorian pentatonic thing is socal based
Yes, and Paul Gilbert is an outstanding guitarist! I'm a HUGE fan of his music! : ) Да, и Пол Гилберт - выдающийся гитарист! Я ОГРОМНЫЙ фанат его музыки!
I heard before that Warren and George were friends and I heard Warren say that George literally stole one of Warrens amps.....theis styles are similar even though I think Warren is much faster,...... the only thing I know about Jake and George is that Jake was there the day Lynch got fired from Ozzy......before he even really got started......
How about profiling a REAL guitar player. A true virtuoso. CC DeVille. That's right. I said it. CC DeVille. Thorny Roses, Unskinny Bob, Nothin' But A Good Times. Now that's shred in it's purest form. All the greats bow to the skill of this master gunslinger. Steve

If a couple moves didn’t happen, Jake could’ve been known for being Ratt’s guitarist and George Lynch could’ve made an album with Ozzy.
My fingers are not that long! Jeez!!!
Dude ,Thank you. subbed.
Now thats the proper Frenchie Charvel.
Like your channel.
Awesome, I kinda felt like warren was possibly stealing at least a bit of essence of George Lynch type phrases 😆 But he also holds his own. That trio You mentioned def influenced me and how my style formed.Thank you, great stuff here I could def use, I'm So rusty! Lol 🤙
so freaking tasty !!!!!! super melodic live dimartini style especialy when he improvises solos
Where have you been all my life?
Warren demartini is a true badass
LATE NIGHT LESSONS, Warren DeMartini made a solo album maybe you can gets some more licks from his solo album here is the link ua-cam.com/video/vZox4VOX6vo/v-deo.html
Great Job, very tasty!!!
7:55 lick sound a little like a Jeff Watson to me
Its funny u mention this..i noticed warden De martini sounding a lot like LYnch in fact the only guitarist I felt had any similar phrasing to George lynch.Their solos n phrases are over similar but George is my guy lol
Nuno bettencourt sounds alot like warren, big influence there !
Wow!
What about Andy Timmons??
Vinnie Vincent chord play/ late night lessons. If it’s someone to cover VV it’s you lol no BS
Man I was like watching some other vids and was like
I want Warren D licks and poof
Here its hopefully discuss why people thing that the Dorian pentatonic thing is socal based
A far cry from warren potsie Weber right
Great 80 solo the ultimate revenge Gary holt exodus live end of piranha,,!!!!

Yes, and Paul Gilbert is an outstanding guitarist!
I'm a HUGE fan of his music!

Да, и Пол Гилберт - выдающийся гитарист!
Я ОГРОМНЫЙ фанат его музыки!
@@LateNightLessons Yes, you're right! Paul Gilbert is a great musician! I meant that the last lick resembles his technique))
The beginning Almost sounds like John petruccis paradigm shift
We really can feel his influence on Nuno Bettencourt , it reminds some licks from lil jack horny ! I do love both of them , thanks for your work :)
Steve
3:30 minutes of blah blah blah and ads before showing anything, just play the licks!
