We are in interesting times. The big AAA studios are a mess of corpo interference and design by spreadsheet while smaller and indi devs are coming out with more creative player and art focused games. Look at helldivers 2 and how people love it compared to skull and bones. I hope hudsons works and the new Exodus universe both are amazing and all we desire
I think this will come after Mass Effect 5 personally. I just hope there's enough of a gap that sales of one won't hurt sales of the other. There's too little information about the setting and game for me to think they are far enough along to beat Mass Effect 5 out
@@SerfinBird I imagine it will come out not long after the new Dragon Age's DLC ends. Most of their resources will probably shift to Mass Effect 5 once Dreadwolf goes gold. And with as little as we know about Humanoid Origin's game I don't think they are much further along honestly. Add the fact Bioware has far more people and I think Mass Effect 5 will come first
Mass Effect needs to be taken away from EA before they destroy it like they did 'the beloved 'Command & Conquer' series. and given to independent studios (poetically to one of its O.G. creators) but they'd probably ransom the IP. I would BET that if independent studios were to crowdfund to develop it themselves, they will get a TON of support. Original creators with no corporate meddling and backing from millions of Mass Effect fans are developing Mass Effect 5 ??? Hell yes. I would put regular donations every week until the game was complete. Seriously it's my favorite game series of all time.
Get well soon! And i hope to see some more news of that new Humanoid Origins game, with Exodus and the next mass effect the future (far though they might still be away) looks bright for us sci fi rpg fans.
I remember cheking out the website shortly after the studio had announced the game they were working on. There were a bunch of portrait pictures of the devs on the website. A year later, all the pictures were removed from the website, and we stopped hearing about the new game. I really hope the game is still being made.
A lot of devs have gone private in the last few years, deleting twitters etc so I don't find that weird to be honest. They have only made really two public announcements, once of the initial founding and then the reveal of the concept art. And 3 if you count the name change. But they have only acquired more devs and their team is roughly 200 right now. I am sure it's being made, but it's in early dev so there probably just isn't a lot to see right now.
I look forward with interest to seeing what Casey and his team create. The sci-fi with the put on retrofuturism is a straight up hit with me. Love the concept artwork a lot.
At times like this, I cannot help but remember one of the key reasons EA attempted a shift to live service games. According to EA, single player games do not sell as well as they used to. [ Insert Sideshow Bob maniacal laughter ] Anyway surprise mechanics aside, we now have several progeny out there working on very interesting projects. Like with Exodus, I hope Humanoid Origin can deliver on story and character.
I'm just glad this is not in some post apocalyptic setting. That is one of the reasons why I like Mass Effect. No mention of WW3 or some disaster. We simply went to Mars and found stuff that moved humanity forward big time. Exodus is interesting, but, Earth is in a sorry state. Casey is my Mass Effect kingpin. The others are just excellent story writers. Casey is the one that made the science in Mass Effect tight. He has a mechanical engineering degree. One of the things he did not like growing up was the science fiction did not explain their science well and didn't want to make that mistake with Mass Effect. Humanoid Origin may not have as many well known developers as Archetype Entertainment but that could be a good thing. I have some concern that Archetype Entertainment may have too many cooks in the kitchen.
*SOCIALIZE* the games industry. More workers to transition to independent studios - they WILL get the support of the gaming community. They will own and control their work and both studio and workers in the long run get most of the earnings.
I've been keeping my eye on this studio, since I prefer narrative-driven games. The concept art hooked me right away. I'm looking forward to what they create. I hope they take their time and achieve what they've envisioned.
Thanks so much for creating this video! With all the layoffs and AI intrusions, what you covered here gives me hope the best of the best are moving forward in even better ways than before. And we really badly need more space games, so 3 big ones to look forward to just makes my whole year.
This sounds so exciting! Bought a new PC for Baldur's Gate 3, I now know what will inspire me to upgrade it in the future :P It ain't surprising people left BioWare and new Mass Effect game to work on this new game in this new studio... Work on a game under EA boot or work on a game with Casey Hudson and without a corpo overlord xd
Exodus and now this? Bioware lost its best men from Mass Effect franchise but I am starting to see that as a win for as ,the players ,because we get 2 new games in exchange. I am sorry for the state Bioware is now and I do not have high hopes for the next MassEffect , but for what comes from exodus and humanoid.... Can't wait for them. Give us more Kala, and thanks for your work.
This had to really hurt by aware where it counts to lose names like this, but this just means the next game these people work on is going to be awesome. can’t wait to see what they create next, especially with less booming management over their heads
I truly don't think that the big publishers much around with their established IP too much nowadays although I strongly suspect that this depends upon the publisher. For example, I doubt Microsoft plays around with the formula (and by reports didn't even when Bethesda was failing internally with Redfall) but Warner Brothers probably do with the insistence of following live service trends despite the fact that a mere handfull has been successful. I don't think EA does other than perhaps saying 'we'd like a live service game' but probably doesn't force the issue. Having said that, any live service games currently in development throughout their studio's would probably have a better chance of securing funding than a game that isn't.
These Artworks speak alot more to me then what I've seen from Exodus yet! Not to say Exodus doesn't look good, but this clicked more from the get go for me. Lets see what comes of it.
The concept art sends all of the right feel-good signals to my brain. Then I think without emotion. The only game that could possibly deliver on the promise of that concept art is Star Citizen. But hey, Mass Effect was always a better story than game. I just hope that Casey Hudson can create a game that the post 2012 version of me can enjoy.
Wonder if this will feature non A, B or C ending (R, G, B one) and will have lots of so-called "artistic integrity" >.> I am skeptic with Casey in charge, but maybe there will be a pleasant surprise waiting.
The question is who succeeds in catching Lightning in a bottle again? Two stuiods made by Ex-Biowre employees that worked on MASS EFFECT. Archetype Entertainment: EXODUS. Humanoid Studios. Which is going to do it, I wonder?
Wait, why? Did they implement a Highlander rule for space opera video games? Why can't we have 3 excellent games at the same time? :P@@Youcancallmeishmaell
haha no I'm very self conscious about my voice I don't think I could properly convey emotion or do more than just reading my youtube scripts to be honesy
@@kalaelizabeth Please keep it, as well as audiobooks, within the realm of possibility 🙏 You have an incredibly nice sounding voice, of the kind where hearing you talk in a place somewhere, one stops and looks around for who has that voice. I think you already convey emotion well through your scripts, because it is easy to feel your passion for the subject, and that is presumably without having had any voice coaching at all.
It looks cool but concept art doesn’t look realistic. They look like showrooms with everything glossy and shiny instead of places where people actually spend time.
The interior environments are definitely very clean, but to me that doesn't equate to showcase-y. Plenty of sci-fi over the years, especially the older kind, has been portrayed in a very clean manner. Take the "Nostromo" ship in Alien, for example: bright, white rooms and hallways, everything neat and clean with minimum clutter (before the xenomorph starts doing its thing, of course). Gritty realism, I feel like, is just more popular nowadays, perhaps reflecting a shift from idealism and hope to the cynical thought that even the future could never be so perfect and nice-looking. But I, for one, definitely don't mind a bigger-than-usual departure from the real world :)

Not sure I like calling their project a "AAA game", when that's become something of a four^H^H^H^H three-letter word among gamers. It's the AAA studios (now we have AAAA 🤦♂) who shove out AAA flops lately. I hope we get something like BG3 from non-AAA Larian (*), not another Starfield. (*) is Larian AAA, indie or something in-between? Discuss!
Choice and Agency. These aren’t necessarily a good thing. In some ways it feels lazy. I don’t know why game developers are so afraid to just tell a straight forward story.
It speaks to a complete lack of conviction. Great stories come from great life experience, which means you need the conviction to actually say something. But we live in the age of “I don’t like that thing, so I’ll live in my parents basement and campaign to have it destroyed”. Sad times. Hopefully this project turns out something decent, though. I am very cautious and mildly optimistic haha.
I have a cold sorry for the audio issues!
what's a cold sorry?
I cannot wait to see what Casey and his team is cooking.

A lot of people are REALLY trying to beat EA to the punch with a new Mass Effect.
Well the founding Father might just do that this time around..since EA can’t get shit right.
I think this will come after Mass Effect 5 personally. I just hope there's enough of a gap that sales of one won't hurt sales of the other. There's too little information about the setting and game for me to think they are far enough along to beat Mass Effect 5 out

The concept art reminds me of another one of my favorite scifi games, Prey (2017). At least the interior styling is very similar.
