3 Entrepreneur Beliefs You Must Have To Succeed: 3:18 You don't need a lot of clients. 7:29 You are deserving of that money and the work that you do is worth the high rates that you charge. 11:09 The more you charge, the happier the client.
13:13 reminded me of a web design business who's offer was more or less "we'll refresh the look of your website for $3500 but we're going to re-use your existing web site content". This way they sidestepped the web designer's pain point of waiting for the client to deliver the content.
OMFG!!! You're again here challenging us to grow like hell. This belief system that you talked about is so true. The kind of manifestations it does around us is also true. One of the major reasons I am so glad to see this video is that I am almost going through the similar phase where I was like challenging my beliefs and then your video comes in like a hammer hitting the nail right at the point and making me realize I was on the right path and just how I could make it even better. Tim, being very honest, you never ever fail to surprise me with the content and knowledge you deliver in your videos. More power to you!! Cheers!
I think part of the buyer psychology here, especially if they have a few competing bids on a project is to look for the high outlier price. "Oh, that dude's charging 50% more or higher than the competition? He must be really good or at least very very confident in his abilities. His work probably isn't a commodity. I'll pay more but the risk of project failure will be lower and I'll save time having to do more back-and-forth with the average designers."
13:30 - So having the belief that small businesses will pay $20K for a new website (without pitching based on value based pricing) is a realistic belief to have?
There isn't a clear yes or no answer to this. Chris Do has a saying, "Price the customer, not the job." That means you have to be clear who you're working with. What do you define "small business" as? If a business only makes a profit of $20,000 a year every year then it is unlikely to pay that much. If a business is growing each year and has made a six figure profit then it is likely to pay that or higher depending on whether the web designer is seen as the expert needed to reach the next growth goal. Same with startups. Startup A is bootstrapped and has $0 revenue. It is unlikely to pay that unless there is plenty of runway in the bank. Startup B has raised $500k in seed capital and is looking for a top UI designer. B is likely to pay that or more even though it has $0 revenue.
@@TimConley Makes a lot of sense! I especially liked your point about Startup B with $500k in seed capital but $0 revenue. Never thought of that exact situation before!
Thanks for your great videos! I'm watching them from Berlin. You Say: If you charge more, the client will be happier and collaborate more. What about the expectations of the client?
Hallo Deutschland! Your client's expectations (if you communicated properly) will be based on the scope you defined together. Whereas a cheaper client generally has unvoiced hopes and dreams for the project and almost always try to force scope creep so they "get their money's worth." Maybe what you mean by your question is about quality. Hopefully you go really good work for all your clients and that's why the higher paying client chose you. They seldom choose providers they "hope" will do better on their project than they did on their past projects. TL;DR you won't land a higher paying client if your current work doesn't meet their standards.
Hi Tim, what are you thoughts on Productized Services? And do you think $3000 is reasonable for LinkedIn outbound prospecting (typical results: anywhere from 20 to 40 warm qualified leads)?
1. Productized Services is mostly a misnomer. Systematized service is a more accurate term. 2. it doesn't matter what I think is reasonable, only what your prospects believe to be a reasonable price for the offer you give them. $30,000/mo could be reasonable for the right offer to the right prospect. Or $300/mo.
I bet it was Billy Gene. He loved to tell people to find local Yoga Studios and sell them marketing services. Talk about getting blood from a stone. I remember being shocked when he casually mentioned how many accounts his managers were in charge of.
Not to be facetious; ask for it. I've had this conversation a lot over the past 2 decades and when I enquire if they asked for a higher fee (4x or more of current price) and they all have said "No." As I was saying in this video, some clients have "nice to have" projects ("It would be nice to have my website redesigned.") and some clients have mission critical projects ("We MUST have our site redesigned because of X, Y & Z!"). Most agencies and freelancers are saying "Yes" to nice-to-have projects instead of attracting the mission-critical projects. An acquaintance of mine went from charging about $10k for a website redesign to $100k and up when she decided to work on mission-critical projects only. Her clients are small businesses doing about $1 to $2 million annually. That's 5 to 10% of their revenue for a site redesign! Many of my videos are on how to become seen as THE authority in your space so that you can charge premium fees.
Hi Tim, you look like Rothbart from Swan Lake (Barbie), or is it just my eyes that suck? I hate Rothbart but I like you, Tim that I could say you did a great, great job with your personal branding. I wish I had known you earlier. And I am so grateful that I came across one of your videos (I forgot the title) just recently when I was about to sleep (at dawn). Or... You look like Jim Carrey. Regardless of that, I like Tim Conley better. Kudos to your content and keep sharing your expertise with us. God bless! P.S. I forgot that YT does not allow pics in the comment section. P.S.S. I can't even add emojis (I should've use my phone)
UA-cam flagged this comment as spam. I guess YT thought it was just as odd as me when I read it. 😀 And I know the barbie swan lake as my daughter, when she was a kid, had me watch it with her a million times and all the other barbie movies.

You want me to take you seriously and I'm offering advice based on what little information you give me in a style I have to try to decipher. Now you're mad at me for trying to help you and saying you're making $20k/mo. That's awesome, so why were you telling me you were a beginner and asking about $1000 to $1500 to charge a client? Those previous statements and this edited comment don't match up. I can't give you good advice if you don't give me the right information. Everything in life is a deal. You're selling yourself now to anyone who reads your comments. If you want to get business advice from me then you have to be as clear with me as you would a client.
I didn't disable your comment. Took me a while to figure out what you were saying. I thought we were having a discussion in the other thread. No idea why UA-cam disabled the comment. I can't even find it. And calling me an asshole. Wow!
I don't know if you can charge $10k, but I've known a lot of people who were paid that and much higher on their first client. One lady who attended one of my talks billed over $100,000 for her first SEO client. Becoming an expert and developing a strong network of potential clients BEFORE striking out on your own will allow you to charge a higher rate than trying to build expertise and a network while trying to get clients.
@@TimConley I guess it's possible for me to charge more than $10k if I build an expertise and solid network before pitching anything , right? I'm planning of doing Brand Strategy Workshop for 4-8 hours. I guess I should start building my personal brand.🤔

Exactly. There's always a solution to the client not delivering content by preventing the client from being responsible for content.
