This film moved me to tears. My take away is that courage has no gender bias; These women showed amazing bravery. As a British expat living in Canada for the last 60 years, I have changed dramatically in my opinions about the British way of life. A story about the SOE I read sometime ago detailed the training and use of a young woman who didn't score so well in her training. She was used in the most alarming way. She was put in the field in occupied France with the expectation she would be captured and tortured. The SOE boffins loaded her up with loads of false information knowing that under torture she would tell all. All this came to happen. As a former Brit, I feel very conflicted about the many incidents in WW11 used SOE agents as throw away assets. The SOE were and still are the most effective of their profession, they are rated as the top in their field. I can't help but feel ambivalent about their methods though. I was an infant in England when these brave women sacrificed so much so that kids like me could grow old in peace. They have my heartfelt gratitude. I think this film was an excellent piece of story telling and film making. I still have a lump in my throat.
It's sad there was a total a/hole trying to take over the world that caused all those spies, and resistance have to lose their lives fighting for their respective countries way back then. But in the end...the allies couldn't have done it without those brave people.
Richard one way to get rid of the lump in your throat is to join the movement that is fighting the suppression of the First amendment as it is known in America or freedom of speech as it is known in the Western world. Is under a vicious attack like no other that has ever occurred due to AI. If physically you don't feel fit to protest in the way you would like, then find other ways to aid the movement because we are coming under a technological dictatorship that could not even be imagined in the world of science fiction unless of course it was also a horror film. Good luck and thanks for your information. BTW, what's SOE?
A brilliant story about the brave women who fought the unseen war of resistance. This was one fine production on all levels and deserves to be watched and remembered. Given that it is based on a true story it is all the more significant. Thanks for sharing this.
Radio operators such as noor Khan paid the ultimate price.Capture was a whisker away with the Gestapo monitoring units. What courage may they never be forgotten.
Having read a lot in the past of the work of those female SOE agents in those war years, I was keen to see this film. I was not disappointed. It came across as a powerful, well informed film, and well acted by all concerned. Those brave ladies deserve to be remembered for their courage and sacrifice.
In London there is a statute of Noor Anayat Khan, unveiled by the Princess Royal (Anne). On UA-cam Violette Szabò’s daughter talks of when HM the king presented her with the George Cross on behalf of her deceased mother, Murdered by the Nazis
If you dig this type of movie, I invite you to find the 'Foyle's War' episode with Samuel West playing this type of SOE executive dropping spies into France. It's terrific. "This is exactly the kind of operations we were set up for. If we win, we survive. If we lose, we don't deserve to."
My father was an SOE Radio Operator doing at least one trip to France , possibly more. He told me just before he died , keeping a sworn secret till 2004.. Miss you man....
I read the negative comments. It is very easy to sit in front of a computer and pontificate. These women and, the story I know particularly well, that of Noor Khan, were exceptionally courageous and brave. No less so that the RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain. Back then the US and UK understood the difference between good and evil and why it must be fought. Objective reality, the reality in which we metaphysically live and interact within means we have to make choices without knowing the future. I suppose the past can always be debated to whatever degree desired. Did these brave women make a difference? Yes they did. They fought the NAZI head on. Did the soldier that was killed the moment he stepped onto a Normandy beach make a difference? Yes he did. Those of you who have studied Calculus will understand the relevance of incremental movements, that taken from the perspective of that individual level, it not possible to see the overall level - but it is significant

These women were unbelievably courageous and highly intelligent operators. They haven’t gotten the recognition and respect they so deserve. Much respect and gratitude to them all.
I think all the agents and spies who worked for SOE man or woman were courageous difficult wherever they worked and dangerous, Germans sent spies to England as well
Robert yes you're right. WE all saw the movie of African-American code breakers. itt was fantastic and I believe got some awards but you or somebody needs to make a movie of these women who ACTUALLY put their body on the line --not just their minds --and they died for their country and the right to be free.

Vera Atkins and Maurice Buckmaster are legends for their masterminding resistance efforts from London. Noor Khan is a new story to me. Bravery, courage and determination. Thank you for her story.
A wonderful film very good to see women working as secret agents against the Nazis must have been very demanding work and very scary as well but SOE did a great job in many respects lovely actresses in the film as well
Britain did not stand alone. There was the empire, the commonwealth and and many Europeans. India fielded the largest volunteer in the history of the world. Please get history straight.
There was British series from the 80's that was quite good called Wish Me Luck. Not fancy production but it went in to more detail of the training and what these spies had to do. Available on UA-cam.
I was going to bring this up. They did a beautiful job of detailing what all was involved. Such noble women predominately & men. I bought the set of DVDs a while back. A good lesson in remembering not to take freedom for granted.
I am overjoyed to see such a fantastic film . Thank God it was made. Thank you, UA-cam, for putting it out. I have known of these women and their contributions but to put on film and actors. Such films are needed to tell the story.
With the American Lady she was in right at the start in Paris getting escaped PoWs, downed Airmen, targets for the Gestapo etc. out & down the Rat Line to Spain. She actually led groups several times over the Pyrenees. The Gestapo were on her trail in Paris. They knew they were looking for a young woman with a wooden leg. She got away only by 15 minutes. Unfortunately, her French Doctor pal was captured & executed in the raid on their location. When the Yanks joined fully, she moved from SOE to the American OSS & stayed with them through the War. She was put back into France but up in Normandy. Afterwards she moved into the CIA. Re. her shooting accident - it actually happened whilst she was stationed at the US Embassy in Turkey. . They missed out one comedic moment. When leading escaped PoWs/wanted Agents over the Pyrenees, her prosthetic limb was acting up. In a message to London she reported, "Cuthbert is a pain." They replied, "Kill him." A very broad subject to cover & focused on a a small part. The captured women suffered horrifically before dying. Really brave.

Nice movie, fairly reasonably made, hiding the true extents of those mistakes. When one radio operator was caught it went on and on before London finally realised that, the guy who noticed the change in style, was right. By that point several agents were sent straight into gestapo's hands over a period of quite a few months. But the worst thing that never transpire from any of these patriotic movies, is how the third reich hold out for so long thanks to business dealings with all major banks, including bank of england, and many entrepreneurs who made themselves very rich in just few years, such as mr onassis, just to make one name. And, worst yet, how a burnt out corporal well known by munich police and pubs, all of a sudden had the money to provide uniforms, food, equipment and wages to hundreds and hundreds of german thugs who, within weeks, formed the SA in 1920, that rocketed to thousands of members to few milions throghout Germany. I don't care how good a speaker you might be, you need plenty, loads and loads of money to achieve such thing.
This is the truth, don´t forget to mention the BIZ (BIS in english) in Basel Switzerland. The book "Trading with the Enemy" from the author Charles Higham is a very important book. The time has come to tell the whole story.

She looks Indian subcontinent origins. British Empire territory. Dropping "her" in occupied Europe (anywhere in occupied Europe) would have been a death sentence for her. This wokenes of "any actor can be cast in any role" is discrediting an entire industry.
What it is with films nowadays? Filmed in some sort of constant twilight, are they showing off that they save electricity to reduce emissions? You can hardly hear what they say, the are just mumbling and whispering! And then that bloody annoying "dramatic" background music!
@@frenchartantiquesparis424 this is movie, the audience is supposed to hear what the characters say! The audience are NOT counter espionage agents trying to catch spies. And by the way real spies never spoke about their activities in public where somebody could overhear them, not even whispering about them. Being too discreet would also attract the interest of counterspy people!
The movie was all true. Virginia Hall was a pioneer of the Cia. Noor khan lasted longer than the Average radio operator. She refused extraction. All true.
Well it could be a situation happening now with Muslims going into Western culture and seems demanding as in UK Sharia law be brought in there. They are complaining about food, where they have been put, they are being paid no work how can tax payers sustain that. How dare they think they can just sponge? This now could be so different to back then. What truly brave women.
What's with the dark make up for the role of Noor Inayat Khan, played by Radhika Apte who, in real life, is quite fair, as was the original Noor. Is this some British notion of what ALL Indians are supposed to look like? In fact people in India have a range of skin tones, from the very pale to very dark.
Pictures of Noor Inayat khan show her hair to be quite dark. Like her brother (who was out at sea), I think on a minesweeper. Her nephew, David, narrates her life through growing up, the loss of her father, helping look after her younger siblings to going to the Sorbonne. Noor loved music, played the harp. She also wrote 20 Jataka tales.
Yup....all 50 or so agents sent to Holland were captured and turned by the Gestapo - the British ignored the security code transmitted by the agents - and so, progressively, more agents fell into the Gestapo trap...
Please increase volume; lighten scenes... CC so dark, too difficult to enjoy...can't continue. Looks like one of various documentaries I read about Indians serving in WW2 (WW2 ending w/ India remaining UK colony); a woman whose brother was in service & she wanted to help the war cause, too.
Noor chose not to take a pistol with her as was normal. She escaped from the Gestapo once. She like most of them was betrayed by the number 2 - or ‘a number 2’ who exposed all of them and wasnt exposed till after the war….loathsome behaviour
Many of the French authorities were in bed with the Nazis during the occupation. I find that quite pathetic and the reason most of those agents dropped into France were betrayed. I trust the French dealt with those SOB's after the war.
A lovely film. I think as a spy one cannot trust anything he/she must abuse and cheat and lie to get along do all the dirtiest things just to come through and think for onesself nothing else, one has to be extremely hard not easy to do smetimes!
Is there a darkened screen over this film? It seems insufferably dim and a reddish hue, even in the outdoor scenes. Is it perhaps something yt has done?
French society has never been as narrowminded as the US, then or now. They are still cut off from the rest of the world by the 2 oceans. The internet doesn't seem to have closed that gap at all. It's like an echo chamber. They talk to each other, and talk at the rest of us, but they hear nothing at all beyond their own voices, and don't care or want to know what's going on in the rest of the world. They somehow think they can control the rest of the wold by ignoring it, and once in a while sending their armed forces, even if they have to lie about the reasons for it, which they have done countless times. But when their help is really needed by somebody else, like in Ukraine, where are they? This is the first time their help was needed insuch a big way since WW2, and it's needed BADLY. All of Europe, and indeed the world, needs for Russia to be STOPPED, but the US is hiding behind Ukraine, and forcing them to fight a neverending proxy war. This way it will go on forever, until Ukraine is a destroyed place empty of people! I'm so bloody angry! If they would have me I'd go there and fight the goddam Orcs. LEMME AT 'EM ! ! ! But I'm sure that I'd be refused. A 63 year old lady might not be that helpful. I'm so full of ANGER about it! SLAVA UKRAINI ! ! ! 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦
I am sorry to say, but what mostly stupid remarks and comments, made by many here!! A lot covered and not covered in this movie, were and in some cases still are, under the 'The Official Secrets Act 1911' (at that time, another one amended/replaced in 1989)... sometimes several generations go by in time until you hear what actually happened or was done, if ever. My mother was in MI6 from late 1930s before the war started+ (cannot say more), she died in 2004 aged 90 and still a lot of her 'activities' are secret. For the sake of everyone, this was 'life', not a story made for a movie. True, similar things happened, but not necessarily the same. Good luck, because it could all happen again (WW3) think about it, and modern technology will not really help (can be tracked & worse), as against the safety of pencil & paper! 💜💜
The British "Official Secrets Act" gives any documents labelled "Secret" 30 years before any information can be released. The biographies of the Canadian, William Stephenson are a good example. He and Wild Bill Donovan were instrumental in setting up the OSS. His first bio, "The Quiet Canadian" was under the Act, so a lot of information was left out. His second bio "Intrepid"was written after the 30 years was up and it contained a vast amount of information. I do concede however, that selective information will never see the light of day.
I got to minute 6. I'm deciding if i should watch the rest of the movie. They picked an actress that looks obviously from the Indian subcontinent (British Empire territory). And she was going to "spy" in Europe somewhere. Where she would stand out like a sore thumb. Really?
Ah min 12 American mother Indian muslim father born in Russia and although she as you say stood out like a sore thumb she was actually one of the best spies England had during world war 2.In the 3th season of the podcast The spy who wouldn't lie her story is documented so for me this movie is a real treat
She would fit in quite well, thank you very much. Your knowledge of the various ethnic groups around Europe is quite limited it seems. Especially Paris, France.

Urban warrfare is brutal . hamas did this using no morals uniforms or geneva convention using civillians for shields . How come no one is whining about putin ? or turkey taking out Arminia ?
Not really relevant to the film. But whilst Hamas committed terrible acts in October, the Israeli army also have committed acts of extreme ferocity, against women and children. Neither side is free of guilt.
This dumb OP thinks nobody is complaining about Putin or the treatment of Armenians! Have they been hiding in the wilderness, completely cut off for years? It just goes to show the intelligence level of most people commenting on UA-cam. Why do I even bother reading or replying? I must be just as dumb!

She looks Indian subcontinent origins. British Empire territory. Dropping "her" in occupied Europe (anywhere in occupied Europe) would have been a death sentence for her. This wokenes of "any actor can be cast in any role" is discrediting an entire industry.
#2024 Thank you for this.
What it is with films nowadays? Filmed in some sort of constant twilight, are they showing off that they save electricity to reduce emissions? You can hardly hear what they say, the are just mumbling and whispering! And then that bloody annoying "dramatic" background music!
Humm... Do you think WW2 Spies were yelling and talking loudly? No, they were whispering and being very discreet.
Significantly, not too much annoying background music. Not a bad movie overall. 😊
The movie was all true. Virginia Hall was a pioneer of the Cia. Noor khan lasted longer than the Average radio operator. She refused extraction. All true.
Took no weapon with her…
Very good movie .. thanx for posting
Support and Vote to save democracy everywhere so this doesn't happen again.
Yup....all 50 or so agents sent to Holland were captured and turned by the Gestapo - the British ignored the security code transmitted by the agents - and so, progressively, more agents fell into the Gestapo trap...
the film would have been good but there is no english conversion for all the french., miss half of what is being said.
It’s horrible that so many people that cared were lied too and joined fake causes 😢
Like MAGA.
Churchill was speak8ng to the fact that Britain stood alone on an Island. Sure they had some allies but not on the Island of Britain.
excellent film
Linus Roache is the absolute "spit"of his father Bill (Ken Barlow).
Radio operater or spy same thing. Both face death if caught and neither is covered by any protections of the Geneva Convention
The map appearing repeatedly on that office wall seems showing somewhat strange for 1941.
sad there is low volume..needs subtiles
im imagining my self being a spy in ww2😮
Man they nerfed who she was in real life! She was a badass!
Was there really an Indian spy in France or this is just the DEI craze that created such a movie character
Just check it out on Google. Yes, there was.
Yes, Princess Noor.... this is a true story, along with Virginia.

I think the make-up is wrong. Shouldn’t it be red lipstick and no eyeshadow?
Noor chose not to take a pistol with her as was normal.
She escaped from the Gestapo once.
She like most of them was betrayed by the number 2 - or ‘a number 2’ who exposed all of them and wasnt exposed till after the war….loathsome behaviour
Many of the French authorities were in bed with the Nazis during the occupation. I find that quite pathetic and the reason most of those agents dropped into France were betrayed. I trust the French dealt with those SOB's after the war.
You Tube..maybe instead of putting adverts every four minutes you should put them every 2 minutes!!!!
Absolutely ridiculous!!!!
What adverts? Didn't see any.
A lovely film. I think as a spy one cannot trust anything he/she must abuse and cheat and lie to get along do all the dirtiest things just to come through and think for onesself nothing else, one has to be extremely hard not easy to do smetimes!
Ang haba NG movie nato😅 maganda naman😁👍
This movie is nice but very very slow.❤❤
Is there a darkened screen over this film? It seems insufferably dim and a reddish hue, even in the outdoor scenes. Is it perhaps something yt has done?
Well this surely seems to absolve Vera for the network cockups.
I saw this movie before.
Oh that horrible background "music" noise that seems to go on forever.
nice music
How can an Indian mingle in French society?
Very easily! Only in silly movies such as this one.
Read more history about France pre WW1 and 2.
She was absolutely fluent in French, she grew up in a chateaux outside of Paris that the followers of her famous father set her family up in.
Google Noor and see her photos; then you will see that she would not have stood out like the actress who portrayed her.
Don't understand the beginning. There is no further connection in the movie.
Training exercise...to withstand torture
Trained so they know what to expect or actual torture if they captured by the Nazis.
Great movie this going to happen soon in the USA

No... You go Slavia!
A crime that happened before this video is being told. PLS listen, it will soon happen to you
A Movie made by Women , for Women.
I got to minute 6. I'm deciding if i should watch the rest of the movie. They picked an actress that looks obviously from the Indian subcontinent (British Empire territory). And she was going to "spy" in Europe somewhere. Where she would stand out like a sore thumb. Really?
Yes the real Noor Khan was from India or maybe she was halve English
Ah min 12 American mother Indian muslim father born in Russia and although she as you say stood out like a sore thumb she was actually one of the best spies England had during world war 2.In the 3th season of the podcast The spy who wouldn't lie her story is documented so for me this movie is a real treat
She would fit in quite well, thank you very much. Your knowledge of the various ethnic groups around Europe is quite limited it seems. Especially Paris, France.

If the movie wants to be credible use correct uniforms - what a joke
Which ones didn‘t you like? I had more problems with the young dark-skinned woman. I don‘t think that would have been realistic in 1941
@@angelfriend5211Apparently true. there are monuments to her and she received a high military award in France.
@@angelfriend5211 The "dark skinned woman" was Indian, and they're all over Europe even then-- England even had Indians in their military ranks.

Why no subtitles for the foreign speaking parts???
Would have been helpful but there must be an app for it. 😊
From Canada: Because unlike Americans, many people can speak French.
Lyon was not in the occupied zone until 1942. They show Germans there! Big historical mistake.
The Germans were first in Lyon in 1940 and again in November 1942 as shown in the movie.
No English subtitles. VERY DISAPPOINTED

Much of this isn’t in English so I agree. I pretty much get the gist but feel much is missing without translation.
