When not all of the performers in a high school show are talented dancers, dances like the hand jive are condensed in order to prevent mistakes...which I didn't see any? I think they did a good job of slowing the song down and making it their own, which is more than many other schools can say about their shows.
While it looked like everyone had fun and I didn't spot any mistakes they slowed the song down and that made it boring to me. I suppose my expectations were a bit high too given that this was my favorite scene in grease
