Disadvantages of Province Life in the Philippines 🇵🇭

  • Living in the provinces of the Philippines isn't all a bed of roses. There are many disadvantages, and we recently found another one when we had a problem with our solar panel controls. This video will highlight some of the other disadvantages of living the province life, but I still prefer living where we are compared to big city life. I wouldn't like to send my son to school in a big city for example. But province life can be difficult especially if you don't have transportation. There are no taxis where we live in Albay, so make sure you are aware of what to expect before making the move to the Philippines.

Nice solar and bat setup.. control panels are key.. but a month? that's crazy. how old is the unit? Been living full time in the province of Luzon over 11 years. I still say it is the BEST way to do it. When it comes to good food.. secret is like me, live in a small farming town. All the things you need are there.. cook what you like.

We got them installed in March last year so not that long ago. 11 years is impressive, good to hear. I love the food. Can't beat it.

Just a tip if anyone is looking to move to the Philippines on a budget go to the province's and find the cheapest place to rent you will be surprised. If you want the cheap and simple no stress life then live like the locals . If you want the life of luxury then be ready to part with your cash .

After living in the Province for several years, the disadvantages simply outweighed the advantages that pertain to living a comfortable retirement lifestyle. Life can be good in the #tropicshade though.

A province resident as well. Unfortunate about the solar panels. I have a 9KW system with batteries. I had a short in my inverter (caused by a bad breaker) but I have someone local that repaired it and have a smaller inverter to substitute for it if needed. Good western food is difficult here, its at least 45 minutes away. Reasonably stocked supermarkets are also 45 minutes away (each way). I can get good frozen steaks and salmon and cook at home but not great restaurants. One of the early decisions I made in the province was to get a second-hand car (got it in Cebu). Province does take some assimilation but it is better life.

Hey Scott, thanks for sharing. Good to hear someone else with solar panels. Beats the brownouts.

They need to have trained techs in the area to fix your solar. It's ridiculous by the time they send it there and back the cost would be cheaper to just have it diagnosed by a representative and part shipped to you if needed.

Yeah I know but it's difficult for me when I'm not at home just now. It's a bit strange that they can install it but can't fix it.

    Hi my friend.
Firstly, congrats on selling your car 🚗
On the solar panel front there are afew companies in Lagazpi, Naga and other local areas.
As for the Bars 🍻 there's a few in Daraga, Bamba restro bar. Muzik3ros Tiki bar to name afew, the rest are in Lagazpi.
There is a expat ( us ) club/ meetup place somewhere in Daraga they meet up on a Thursday but not to sure if thats your thing. ( Its not mine)
    Anyhow have a great day.

Ah yes. The advantages of solar power.
I have to wonder if the cost of making solar panels, buying, installing, repairs and wait times are truly worth the $100-150/mnth USD is truly cost effective or if it’s just we’ve bought into the larger than life idea of saving the entire planet.
Sorry you and your family have to go through this. Best of luck.

Biggest benefit for me is avoiding the brownouts, cost-saving isn't huge. Cheers.
