The Olympic-class were rather good at finding the one thing in the middle of the ocean to crash into...
Yes…
It’s just what happens when you build a big unwieldy ship. Although, I do take your point.
Titanic: Iceberg
Britannic: Mine
Olympic: Hawke, Nantucket, New York(I think)
@@WhistlingBook2012And yet Olympic served a full lifetime of civilian and military service before being stripped down for costs in the midst of the great depression lol
RMS Titanic: "Iceberg! We're in danger!"
RMS Olympic: "I am the danger."
Ships in ww1: a U-boat we're in danger
RMS Olympic: you have chosen death
Meanwhile, Olympic about to ram into HMS Hawke:
“I am the one who rams.”
@@lilsquidyyy Hawke : I'm made for ramming ships
Olympic : think again
Titanic: Iceberg right ahead
Olympic actually said: "We're coming for you!"
The Olympic class ships were really just aesthetically beautiful pieces of craftsmanship.
It's amazing to look back to times before radar was standard on ships and see just how dangerous existing on the water was
@@BDub_30 Just below Ice Bergs. Olympic is the sister ship to the Titanic after all.
“How many times have we told you that the War is over, Olympic! Stop sinking things by smashing into them!”
-Someone.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to smash into Nantucket… I just couldn’t see her…”
-RMS Olympic
@@sharksman20rocks Olympic months earlier : I SEE YOU MOTHER FUCKER DONT TRY TO RUN

Na I think it's PTSD from the War and losing her sisters
Man....anytime I think of the Olympic I think of what it would've been like if she wasn't scrapped during the depression. We could've had Titanic's sister as a museum or something and it would've attracted millions of people to see her.
Yep, would be pretty crazy. But the fact not a single olympic ship exists intact today makes them so much more out of reach and "romantic"
Would be wild.
@@degenetron7590 Well to be honest, Britannic is as close to "intact", as you can get, considering you can even go diving and actually touch the ship, albeit through corral
@@dawgthm4277 with intact I mean also not sunk, like a museumship where everyone can visit inside and out
maintenance would be a nightmare tho
the irony of hitting a lightship, designed to signal you where NOT to go
Tomorrow it would be 89 years since Olympic sunk Nantucket so I find it very nice that you release this video in that special date honoring the 7 men that died in this incident.

@@iplayClarinetthewrongway After the ship struck an iceberg on April 14, Andrews assessed the damage and determined that the vessel would sink. He subsequently urged people to get to lifeboats; although the ship exceeded the number of lifeboats required by the British Board of Trade, it had enough for only about half of those onboard.
Olympic actually WAS unsinkable. So lucky that she even had a torpedo hit her hull and it didn’t detonate
Of course no such thing as unsinkable every ship sinkable kinda common sense
@@theblackshepard4441Well this one didn’t sink. So it is unsinkable.
@@OzzieBo well you're dumb

The Olympic had plot armor.
If I had a nickel for everytime Olympic hit a ship, I'd have, like...two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's wierd it happened twice.
It seems like the Olympic class in general is pretty bad at not hitting things.
It would be three nickels in total. RMS Olympic struck three sea-going vessels during her lifetime. The first vessel was British Royal Navy HMS Hawke, the second was a deliberate ramming action against German Imperial Navy SM U-103 and the third incident was the United States Lighthouse Service's Nantucket lightship LV-117.
@Trident Animation The Olympic took out more vessels in her lifetime than most modern navy ships.

Wow, no wonder why nearly all of the crew members of that smaller ship died in that accident. Ironic, because Olympic during WWI DID destroy an enemy submarine this exact same way.
It’s badass. The submarine part I mean.

If the Olympic had a soul... she'd be in a mournful rage knowing the fate of her little sisters. Taking her anger on any ship that gets in her way
Personally that sounds both wholesome yet cool
The thought of Olympic with a soul breaks my heart
Honestly I can believe it after all when the Olympic went over the spot where titanic sunk that giant earthquake happed I don’t think that was just some random thing that happened I think it was the titanic calling too her sister
0:27 This shot does an excellent job of conveying the sheer length and scale of Olympic! And I never knew there was ever any footage taken of Olympic, so those clips you shared at the end were a shock to see. Overall, a vey well done video!
There were a lot of short films of Olympic and one of Titanic.
The one of her entering after the collision even has full sound, since it was in 1934: so we actually have a recording of Olympic blowing her whistle!
Same here.
That shot was absolutely terrifying. Just a huge beast of steaming metal lumbering through the fog.
Looks like the opening scene of Spaceballs
Beautiful shots of Olympic , the Titanic gets all the attention and yet I suspect the public forget about the other sister ships and how magnificent they were in their own right.
What's amazing is to be able to see this research with actual photos and with a video re-eneactment. Very well done!
Omgg I’m glad you remembered about these events
God, what could be your reaction at that point, imagine, sitting on this small lightship, and the first thing you see is the bow of this huge ocean liner, bearing down on you out of the fog, unable to turn in time, what do you do in a situation like that? Had to be scary for sure
You jump in the water and hope you don't get sucked into the liner's propellers and then cling on to any debris still afloat and wait for rescue.
@@funnelvortex7722fax. Ish
I would feel helpless.
Pray and that close jumping in the water would be bad don't know how anyone can swim away that fast.
I personally, would launch myself overboard 🤪
wow...just full on wow 2:50 is just so amazing seeing footage of Olympic....tho R.I.P Nantucket.
That's a serious piece of real events with that additional recording of 4 men who servived and were rescued from the collisinon. Thank You for sharing
The Olympic has a thing for steamrolling other ships
"there is no unsinkable ship"
Olympic: am I a joke to you?
"But this ship can't sink!"
"She's made of iron, sir. And unsinkable ships are perfect for sinking other ships."
I wish they didn’t scrap the Olympic, I wish they persevered it like the Queen Mary.
I agree. It would definitely be cool.
altough this is a tragic story i loved this video. the animation was once again AMAZING aswell with the realtime footage of the ship and the survivors it was once again amazing thank you so much for this video blue star
Olympic’s engines were put to full astern, not stopped. It was Titanic’s engines that were stopped as she was passing the iceberg. Olympic was traveling at ten knots when the lightship was spotted and managed to slow down to only three knots.
What a magnificent ship. Involved in no less than four (4) major collisions during her 24-year career on the North Atlantic.
no its not 4 its 3 the Hawke collision the sub she rammed and the Nantucket 🚢🛥🚤🛳⛴
@@ljlexi2584 in March of 1924, while reversing from her berth in the Hudson River, the Olympic collided with the liner Fort St. George, which necessitated the replacement of the Olympic 's sternpost.
I'm always a bit surprised at how 2 ships can seemingly collide in a space as vast as the ocean. Same for airspace I suppose!
It's not so crazy when you think about where they are sailing to and from. There are only so many major ports to leave from and to sail to. So the quickest route being a straight line put alot of ships near one another.
Well, the issue with that statement is that airplanes can turn almost immediately,
A ship as big and heavy as Olympic would have had to ordered the engines full astern or all stop, which would only slow it down before actually stopping, and obviously you cant turn a ship in the time they had either
my grandma and my Aunt Joan came on this ship from Bulgaria to America
Olympic had some pretty serious bloodlust that nobody seems to want to talk about
ikr like she DESTROYED that sub and then she killed the nantucket

Nantucket had her heart punctured with Olympic's bow stem Nantucket would have died almost instantly from blood loss Olympic would have had Nantucket's blood on her bow stem if Nantucket didn't die almost instantly she would have been in excruciating pain but i don't think Olympic even meant to hurt the Nantucket she watched the Nantucket die in her arms listening to her gasping for air Nantucket was literally drowning in her own blood after her death Olympic buried her at sea at the end of the video you can tell she felt horrible
I mean can u blame her? She lost both her sisters...
The Olympic was the true unsinkable. Collided multiple times, got torpedoed twice and never sunk.
I love how this is after ww1. It shows that Olympic still had fight left in her

Olympic was still standing, and not scrapped. We would’ve had the perfect titanic replica
There were times when I was on the Nantucket Lightship in the late 1975 that when a ship was going to pass by at less than an 1/4 mile we would turn the radio beacon off and the ship would change course. We tried all frequencies to contact them but no snswer. On occasion we did an abandoned ship drill and we saw the lights of the approaching ship in the sky and still no answer on the radio

Titanic: Sinks
Britannic: Sinks
Olympic: Took that personally.
LV-117 (the ship rammed) was also sideswiped by SS Washington earlier in 1934, some ships have all the bad luck
Including the USS Arizona. In 1934 she collided with and sank a fishing trawler near Cape Flattery. Then in late 1941 the battleship USS Oklahoma collided with her off Hawaii and punched a hole in her, requiring repairs in drydock at Pearl Harbor. Had she not been forced to remain in Pearl Harbor while the repairs were completed she would've returned to the mainland and missed her appointment with an armor-piercing bomb on December 7th.
@@DK-gy7llso I guess Nantucket is the only one clearly having all bad luck
It’s is remarkable to see the injured crewman from the Nantucket standing together with the captain of the Olympic for that press photo.
Quite gracious
The Olympic actually didn't cut the ship in half. It ripped it open and careened it out of the way, where it foundered immediately, but it wasn't cut in half.
These sisters just love ramming into stuff, Olympic was just the only one that managed to survive them all

Britannic hit a mine and sank

Whitw star lines - leave all the ramming to us and relax and enjoy the cruise
The dangers of the lightship service. It was tendency on a time for liners to hone in on the radiobeacons aboard lightships while making a crossing.
The scene where Olympic appeared genuinely gave me goosebumps
We actually have one of Nantucket’s twin sister in my home town retired on our shores with the same picture of Olympic running into that light house ship
cant wait! Only 5 more hours!
I guess thats the issue with building such massive ships, they're so incredibly big that you can barely stop them in time usually
We still haven’t found the wreck of that little ship. This was the death sentence for the old reliable.
That is the sad truth. RIP to those lost in the Nantucket Light Ship Sinking.
The wreck of the Nantucket was discovered in the 1970s. She was not split in two as the video depicts, although that rumor was circulated as earlier as 1934.
It's been discovered for the last 5 decades.
@@LITTLE1994 nope
@TheLusianPopa well I’ll be damned.
White star line had a habit of hitting the few things in the ocean that they shouldn't.
1:42 I keep having a nigthmare like this. It's dark, I;m in a little boat in the middle of the ocean, it's really foggy. Then, out of the fog, barely 100 meters or so away, a huge bow of a ship appears, I mean big, like a skyscraper big.
man, Olympic really changed after losing her sisters.
I had to pull Olympic off of a ship she was attacking it which was the mystery ship the one who ignored Titanic the Olympic was beating the mystery ship with her anchor in the forecastle deck I got scratched bit and kicked I tried restraining her that didn't work she turned around and bow butted me right in the face fortunately it was just a small cut the mystery ship was very badly hurt and had to be rushed to the nearest boat and ship hospital the mystery ship had a cracked skull forecastle deck bleeding in the brain it almost didn't survive we understood why she attacked the mystery ship which left her sister Titanic for dead
Amazing animation, keep up the good work!
Imagine being on that tiny ship and seeing a massive ship thats longer than 250 meters coming right towards you
OLYMPIC : GET THE HELL OUTTA MY WAY
That's crazy that the passengers didn't even notice
Guess they learned their lesson with titanic to not turn and just ram whatever was in their way.
My tinfoil hat theory is that they scrapped Olympic instead of preserving her because they were paranoid that she could be moored, completely still, and still find some way to crash into something.
I can just imagine some random bystander looking in Olympic's direction only to hear and see a tremendous metallic crunch as Olympic drifts straight into the side of another ship passing by while her mooring lines trail along behind her looking defeated and broken...
I wonder if she escaped the scrap yard and is hiding somewhere tinfoil hat
So all three sister ships were involved with siblings. Titanic, we all know. The Brittanic went down in 1916. And this…😮
Man its been 1 years since ive been on this channel
W channel still
Fun fact : Nantucket wreck was actually found and she isnt snapped in half, just resting on the bottom of the sea
Yes I have seen photos of this. I will remake this some time!
i would shit myself thinking Titanic's ghost has come to sink my boat

Olympic, unlike Titanic, she causes shipwrecks.
Rest In Peace, Nantucket :(
The Olympic has made two kills with crashing 😂

Watching from India 🇮🇳.... Olympic Is my favourite ocean liner ❤️
There once was a man on Nantucket.
Who then kicked the bucket.
It took a hit,
Which caused it to split.
And Olympic was the one who struck it.
I’m sorry.
10/10 Limerick
I visited her sister ship that's docked in Seattle union bay and was down in the engine room imagining the Olympic hitting her. Suffice to say, there is no way anyone could have survived that
Good grief. Most did.
I'm surprised that Olympic only stopped her engines (which will take forever to stop) without any attempt to steer hard a port/starboard.
There is an inaccuracy with this video. According to Wikipedia, the Olympic threw all engines in full reverse and applied full port rudder to avoid. But 55,000 tons coming at you at even 3knots would cause significant damage.
@@johnandrews3568 olympic class liners, only the wing propellers could go astern, centre engine was ahead only turbine so couldnt reverse only stop,
Olympic was set to full reverse as fast as possible and only hit Nantucket with around 5 km/h, which was still enough. Also it is worth noting Nantucket was not cut in half as depicted in this video.
@@knispelwedges427 she was also already deploying life boats as well.
Go away karien.
Heres why you shouldnt call a ship unsinkable
RMS Titanic: "unsinkable" it sunk
HMHS Britannic: "unsinkable she is" it sunk
RMS olympic: no one said unsinkable and it didnt sink
Cool animation, but LV-117 Nantucket lies on the bottom in one piece. The ship getting cut in half was a rumor at the time, as the wreck wasn’t found until the 70s and wasn’t identified until 1998.
Olympic was the mother of all ships
Glad this happened so we can have bomb ass reconstructions like this.
1:50 R.M.S. Olympic: Get ready to meet your fate you puny little ship!
That ship was so beautiful..
If Olympic had hit the Iceberg. The Iceberg would've sunk.
Olympic was the only ship that lived much longer than her sisters.
Why noone respected and take csre of her even after the accident of Titanic and Britannic. She was same shaped ship, only yellow line livery was under the OLYMPIC name, others were same (with little differences).
Let's hope that someone in the future will build these ships again.
Shipbuilding has progressed a lot in 100 years, it will never happen.
@@ggregd - Nothing is impossible. We can rebuild that type of ships again. With today's technology we can build them in 1 year or even some months.
@@mafia_gamer_official30973 Yes obviously we could rebuild them but the spirit and atmosphere of their time as well as the way in which they were built at the time will not be able to achieve their unique authenticity of the time
@@francoissnoeck - Well. You are right in some parts. But now we are living in 21st century and building ships is more comfortable as technology and takes less time than 19th-20th centrury's. Titanic was build for almost 2 years (24-25 months), but with today's standarts it can be re-built for nearly 1 year (9-10 months).
Olympic class ships are the best at hitting random sh*ts in the ocean
The way it just sliced the Nantucket in half is kind of horrifying, knowing there were people on it.
This video is inaccurate as it was not sliced in half
I thought this was an accurate recreation, but I looked it up and discovered that this is actually startlingly inaccurate. The Olympic's speed at the time of the collision was only three knots, far slower than its apparent speed in the video. The lightship's crew described the collision as "more like a hard push and a terrific shaking, a crunching and grinding. It was not a loud smash as one might expect." The lightship was not cut in half. Its wreckage was discovered in the 1970's and confirmed in 1998, and is described as "remarkably intact" by those who have visited it. I'm sorry, but while this video is very dramatic, it is absolutely not an accurate depiction of the event.
Don't mess or screw around a big sister!
titanic thinking "now ya killed it brotha, shoutout"
The nantucket didnt even get the chance
How fast did the Nantucket go down after the collision? It had to have been less than a minute at least. The animation of the sinking seemed to fast for me.
Did the Olympic get a Die-Hard medal 😂
Don't mess with Titanic's Big sistership!
I like to call it “Olympic style”
Looking forward seeing this video
