for those who want to learn
Southern Vietnamese it's super easy with chừng nào for the future and hồi nào for the past in casual language,
chừng nào bạn đi-> when will you go?
bạn đi hồi nào -> when did you go?
in formal language we use khi nào (normal in the North, formal in the South) with the same rule: use it at the beginning for the future and at the end for the past
thank you, very useful!
thank you for your videos. Your a good teacher! I learn a lot about your language
This video was a life saver, I need to know more about what questions in Vietnamese and this video helped me so much. Thanks..

Xin chào! I am doing the practice exercises at the end of the lesson and I am wondering if the answers in the answer key with 'khi nào" and "bao giờ" can be interchanged, like you said in the beginning of the video?
For example, Practice 1, #3 I answered "Anh ấy muốn học tiếng Việt bao giờ?, but the answer in the key says I should use khi nào. Are they both correct ?
2 thumbs up ... as always
Love your videos!!! Excellent application scenarios in real life and exercises. Can you do a video about the adverbs used in Vietnamese for describing things in the past? Like when I answer questions about myself, like where did I go to school, what did I do for fun when I was younger, how I studied abroad 5 years ago, etc. I don't know if there's a past tense in Vietnamese at all, but if there isn't, there's like all these adverbs to describe the past. Help, TVO!
For the example "khi nào em về nhà", since "khi nào" is at the beginning, I thought that sentence is asking about the future?
Since "khi nào em về nhà" means "when did you go home", then how do you ask "when are you going home"?
Carter, see reply to 王騰
They made a mistake
Starting at 2:35 there were plenty of examples of "present simple tense" verbs (and an example sentence), but none of "adverbs of frequency"...I was trying to think of an example of that (in English)--perhaps "often", "frequently", "seldom", etc. ...would've liked to see some examples of these (using the VN-equivalent terms) in a sentence with "khi nao", "bao gio", and/or "luc nao". Excellent vid otherwise, thanks.
The example " Khi nào em về nhà?" is for future or past? By the rule that explained in the video should be " when will you go home?" instead of "when did you go home?" , is that right? Expecting the answer~thanks a lot~
Hi we only just noticed it now. It's supposed to be "When will you go home". Thanks for pointing it out and I'm sorry for our mistake.
Don't feel sorry, I love TVO so much and watch your videos every day. I just started learning Vietnamese last week~ the videos help a lot! thank you~by the way, I am a Taiwanese : )
I did notice it too, it seems we are dedicated students :) Thanks for correcting. Great video btw !
How are we supposed to answer the questions at the end? Who will correct us if we make mistakes?
Hi Joe we have answer keys in the description of the video, so you can check there if your answers are correct :)
Contradicted herself at 3:25. She put the uestion word at the beginning of a past tense uestion. WTF
