Option 2 is terrible. Just put the pier back where it was and rebuild Lynn Hall Park as it was, possibly with some more parking spots. Having a massive parking garage in the background of Fort Myers Beach is awful.

I agree. The traffic is horrible now, and with big developers gobbling up property, the FMB we knew and loved will be no more.

Better yet, ban ALL traffic from the beach except local traffic (residents, business owners, delivery etc.) and provide convenient transit access for visitors onto the beach. Solves your traffic problem, and no need for more parking spaces which wastes valuable land, and is a major eyesore to look at. Also greatly increases capacity for tourists, and quality or life for residents therefore increasing the land value and revenue coming from the beach.

They want the parking garages so Margaritaville will have parking. I live here I hate the idea. Build it back the way it was period.

After over a year, still no bathrooms. Place is pitiful. Parking is outrageous. Business owners are struggling. Where is the government and FEMA fund?

"If ya wanna go big...and why not?".....I'll tell you why not. Do you really want MORE people ? Do you really want more Lani Kai problems ? Do you really want the trash and infrastructure issues ? Think hard folks.

My granny lived in Fort Myers and I started going there in 1963, lol. I loved the pier and used to fish off of it with my mother. Please keep it simple. I loved the beach too. No parking garage!

This is dumb. It will get destroyed again. Worry about infrastructure and safety of the city from hurricanes not fishing!

If you're going to rebuild, then follow the old "KISS" Principle: Keep It Simple, Stupid! A 1000' pier for $20Mil? What idiot dreamt that up? Replace it as it was and keep the beauty of the shoreline, beach and surrounding area simple.

I fail to understand why people continue to rebuild in the same location after a devastating event like a fire or hurricane. I mean common sense would dictate that once your location has been destroyed and you know it will happen again then why rebuild, why not leave to a safe location for you and your family, and the perfect example of this would be California fires & Hurricanes

Please please please just rebuild it as it was. Don't destroy 1000's of people's memories. Nothing wrong with the way it was

Who is going to insure this? Rebuilding FMB is foolish. Another storm will destroy it again! Too much coastal development!

We all need to ask the hard questions like- How much resources and money are we willing to allocate to rebuild something that will be destroyed in a few months, a few years, And then what do we rebuild again and again. When is enough enough. Some of the smartest people on the planet like NASA & NOAA are predicting that due to sea level rise 1/2 of the state of Florida will be under water by the year 2043 that is in 19 years from now. (estimated from the Tampa/ Clearwater line south will be completely under water With continued unpredictable weather each year getting worse. So what do you think ??

There should be a moratorium on building at the beach, but i know that wont happen, parking garages are for city's, not a damn beachfront, who tf comes up with these ideas? Yeah more taxes, good idea I'm sure all the rich people from up north got no problem paying more.

Walked it many times when I came down for the Roy Hobbs World Series. Also my wife & I walked it on our Honeymoon which we took down in FMB. Hard to look at what FMB looks like now compared to what I remember from my many years down there :(

  • @johnharper2016

Yep, spend $20/$34 million to build a pier and park with parking garage that will be washed away when the next big hurricane hits. Only in south Florida. Insane! Stupid $$$$. Left Naples, Fl in 2014 after 24 years of home ownership. I saw the handwriting on the wall. Insurance insanity. Property tax insanity. Officials with there head in the sand in denial. Absolutely craziness.

Too bad the water ain’t like that anymore. Between the Everglades dumping through the caloosa and all the crap water from Cape Coral and fort myers, the water is awful and the fishing is shot.
