Thanks for the video. I didn't notice the tiny screw holding it together at first. To prevent other people making comments about the video not mentioning the type of battery it uses, it's a CR1616. I recommend placing a wash cloth on the surface where the screw is removed so it won't bounce off the surface. It would be nearly impossible to find the screw if it bounces off the floor from my past experience losing one that tiny..
One extra tip I'd add is that it's good to clean the metal contacts inside the remote once you've taken the battery out, to lengthen the life of the battery and sort out any issues with connectivity. The first time I tried this I put the remote back together and it didn't work - it turns out the contacts were dirty, and when I cleaned them, it worked fine again.
thank you, that got her - Helpful Tip (no offense of any kind interned): include battery type/size so repairer can acquire one before disassembly cr1616 i think
You could have intended offense. The battery type is by far the most useful information for this process. Anyone can just "unscrew the screws you see" and "pry open at pry points."
I see comments asking if other batteries will work. The battery number is based on the battery size. 1616 is 16mm in diameter and 1.6mm thick. So anything other than a 1616 will not work.
It would’ve been nice after watching the entire video if he would’ve told you what the battery number was so when you do what you could do it all in one fell swoop
Great instruction vid. Thank you. I did all that and the key does not work. The red light lights up on the Fob but does not light the car headlights nor did it open the door manually (the tumblers are not worn out). What do you think I the problem is??
After you do this, you have to re-pair/re-program the fob to the car, otherwise keyless entry won't work and the engine shuts off 1-2 seconds after you crank it. Learned this the hard way today 😭
I am driving sister's CRV while she is traveling and the remote is not responsive. As Honda doesn't use the more common type CR2032, I don't have a spare CR1616 in hand to replace. How often do you change the CR1616? It is much smaller than the CR2032 in my GM cars.

Thanks, was going to ask what kind of battery
Can I use a 2016 battery in my 2005 Honda CRV Key fob?
My key fob required a CR 1616 battery. Thanks for the video. I probably would have broken mine trying to take it apart without your video!

1616. Should be under $5.00. I got the wrong one at first. Video helped a lot, and I'm not mechanical. Thanks!
Thanks for the answer! And no problem!
A big help. I didn’t lose the little screw. I bet the only way to get another one would be to buy a new car. Thanks.
Thank you for this! It was a big help and now my fob is like brand new!

Thank you so much ! Following your video I successfully changed the battery .
Do you need to reprogram once the battery is removed?
Thank you for a short and to the point video! It was PERFECT!
Thank You for making this easy!
Thank you for the helpful video!
Would have been really helpful if you mentioned what model # for the battery is used.
You made it possible for me to do the job.

Great video, thank you,
What battery do you use ?
The battery is the CR 1616 and the screw driver to use is a Phillips 1.8 m/m
THANK YOU!
The screw head is stripped, can't unscrew it. Now what?
That's EXACTLY what is happening to me. The dipshits at Honda put in a cheap ass screw!
Awesome! Thanks for posting.
If you have a hard time removing the screw, carefully heat the metal shaft to soften the blue Loctite.
What battery does the Honda 2009 crv take ??
Imagine taking the 2seconds to show which of the many batteries this requires
Make your own video, genius!

I used a set that I normally use to repair eye glasses.

What type of screw driver is that? Need to buy on ebay

Does anyone know if the CR 2016 will work? I saw that CR 1616 is recommended, but I can't find that one.
I doubt it would work. Check Amazon for the best selection and prices for batteries.
What size battery
How do you re-pair it to your car? When I change the car battery I have to put in a code so the stereo system works.
After you do this, you have to re-pair/re-program the fob to the car, otherwise keyless entry won't work and the engine shuts off 1-2 seconds after you crank it. Learned this the hard way today 😭
How does one do that?
