      it looks like the classic case of the blind leading the blind. he keeps repeating in his video that "it's just so easy", then he whips out his specialty made 3.5mm TRS to XLR cable as if everyone is gonna have one of those just lying around ... good lord. this is just setting up your viewers for failure... show your viewers some respect and actually show them some solutions that are achievable. but using a specialty made cable is just an a****** move. unless you're making this video for other sound guys, you're kind of wasting everyone's time. people have RCA connectors, people have auxiliary cables. show them how to use an adapterbor something? but 20 mins..haha.. clearly you're just after some UA-cam dollars

    Excellent job explaining options available ... I have zero knowledge and learned a lot from this single video ... the only other buzz words I’m aware of is ‘balanced cable/signal’ vs ‘unbalanced cable/signal’. Would have been awesome video if you could have just touched on that subject, and provided some examples of each type that you may come across.

    I hope this is not ridiculous but you are very experienced with all this. I just got an old Peavey XR 400B mixer/amp and two big tower speakers. I plan to use these for events and karaoke. It has XLR jacks and quarter jacks. Currently I have no mics or cables. I just want to clarify how to hook up my laptop. Simply plug in the small jack from the audio on the laptop to the xlr or quarter jack to the mixer? From there I can hook a small tv to the laptop to show song lyrics and stuff? I hope this all makes sense. I appreciate your video and your willingness to share knowledge with us newbies 😂. Thanks man!

    • @DjMartiniMidwest
      @DjMartiniMidwest  11 місяців тому

      Hello , thanks for watching and your question. So your Peavey amp / mixer , actually was made for microphones channels 1-4 so it should work well for karaoke and music. Yes, your laptop could technically go to one of your 4 channel inputs but I would use the aux in on the Mixer/EQ section. I would use a 3.5mm to 1/4 jack cable from your laptop audio / headphone jack. But they make all kinds of adapters for usb-c or usb to 3.5 mm / 1/4 jack if you prefer that from your laptop . Then you can use mixer section for your music and each channel input for any microphones. Then you can also run a monitor / tv from your laptop for lyrics.. Absolutely 👍🏽 you’re on the right path.. it should work well . Thanks .

      Thanks for watching and your question. I can only assume that it’s the Karafun application with some kind of third party software issue with the adapter. I had a similar issues with other apps. Second I might double check the lighting adapters including the 3.5mm adapter. Also With the Karafun app might check settings in the app for audio. Or using a auxiliary jack from the monitor to a speaker. Last you could use Bluetooth from the iPad to a Bluetooth speaker or use Alto Professional Bluetooth Total 2 adapter to any speaker. Just a few options / thoughts…thanks .

      Thanks for watching and your feedback! To answer your question it’s not a problem but you will only be able to adjust the volume of the music from the source not the mixer. Mixer will control overall volume of everything. If you have another channel with gains they do sell various cables like 1/4 jack to 3.5 and even XLR to to 3.5 . Just depends on your needs and the mixer . Some Cable links if needed :

    You gotta get off the 79¢ craptop headphone jack. Using the 3.5mm jack sucks and going from 3.5 to XLR sucks twice as much You need to get a usb sound card, even the cheapo $29 (Behringer U-Control UCA202 USB Audio Interface) is way better. But, probably the best cheapest solution is a mini mixer with a built in usb interface. Behringer also makes one of those for $69 (XENYX 302USB Premium 5-Input Mixer) Better yet I like the Mackie FX line, and there are countless Chinese brand USB Interface mixers in the $30-$50 range and many are quite good, but some may not be so good. Unfortunately, there's usually no way of knowing how good (or bad) they are except to buy and try.

    • @DjMartiniMidwest
      @DjMartiniMidwest  Рік тому

      Hello, thanks for watching and sharing. You are right that XLR cables are better and shield electrical interference for better audio. I do have audio interfaces and usb mixers including the UCA202. If I was recording audio, live streaming, or performing live music . I would absolutely use XLRs / interfaces . For new users.. I was just showing methods to get it done and for just showing a quick hook up to play music from a laptop.. I’m ok showing a valued , easy method, and a good form of getting the connection done . The 3.5mm or 1/8 jack been getting it done since 1950 and works fine especially on short run cables. “Good” the 3.5 mm jack For just playing music . “Best” XLRs , interfaces , and usb mixers .
      I Agree and thanks for the ideas for a more advanced connection video in the future.

    • @booobtooober
      @booobtooober Рік тому +1

      @@DjMartiniMidwest Yeah, 3.5 mini jack will get you playing. But sound quality is fare at best and horrendous at worst. I'm not even talking about consumer line level vs XLR pro level. I'm just talking about the mini-jack (meaning the built in soundcard (DAC)) I mean some of the cheaper laptops, notebooks and tablets have a jack that literally cost just a few cents from China. There is zero quality and its just god aweful sound to be amplifying to PA levels. You'll be giving everybody a headache.
      And the weak signal going from 3.5mm (0.335 mV) to XLR (1.2 V) requires you to turn up the gain thus multiplying and or amplifying the distorted signal even further.
      The best bet, or cheapest solution imho, is to get one of those cheap Chinese usb interface mixers. I mean even if you end up with a crappy one, odds are the sound card will still be an improvement over a 5¢ mini-jack. Plus you'll get more options, most notably, to use a mic.
