- Sankey Lecture Series in Masonic Studies: En Route to the History of Freemasonry: Frances Yates, Northern Ireland, John Toland and the Knights of Jubilation - Prof. Margaret C. Jacob, Department of History, University of California, Los Angeles
Due to the COVID-10 pandemic, this year’s Charles A. Sankey Lecture in Masonic Studies was presented in a virtual format on Sunday, March 28, 2021.
The Sankey Lectures series is named in honour of Brock’s second Chancellor and renowned Masonic scholar, Charles A. Sankey. It is a collaboration between the University and the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario.
Margaret Jacob is a amazing genius.
Her perspective is wide and deep specially.
In 1957 Alexandre Koyré brought back Bruno to academic attention. The problem is he was french, not saxon. I've been suffering a book by Ms. Jacob and, for her, there are only saxon thinkers. The scientific revolution was... Newton. His name appears 62 times in Jacob's book "The radical Enlightment". Galileo appears... once. Spinoza appears 90 times; Toland 209, and so on.
I wonder if John Toland was my great great great grandfather 🤔
She misspells title of Brunos work. It's unfortunate bc her narrative is not bad.
