Good video. Correction at time stamp 5.20 - author calls the coolant valve a filter. This item is actually a thermostat valve in the return line to the radiator from the carburetor. When the coolant is cold the valve is open causing coolant to bypass the main engine thermostat so as to heat up the carburetor quickly. Then as the coolant warms up the valve closes off the valve forcing all coolant to pass through the main engine thermostat. The purpose of this valve is for quicker warming of the carburetor so as to reduce the potential for carburetor icing allowing for a smoother transition from a cold engine to one operating at proper temperature.

I just want to know why mine pulls to the right so hard could that be a Tyrod also it has a hose running from the vent on the gas cap and it will try and die like it’s not getting fuel but if I blow into the vent hose it will run fine for a while
Hello ! Your videos are awesome! I just picked up one of these bad boys and know nothing about them trying to learn !, Im trying to locate a VIN to see what year it is but can not find one , ?? Also where would I get a replacement oil filter at ?
Hi. I have the chance to purchase a 1997 Kawasaki KVF 400 and wanted to know if they are great and reliable ATVs , are I'm better to go with another brand, etc? Thanks
Hey I was wondering where you find your parts for the older machines. I have a 98 kvf 400a. Looking for ring and pinion, pinion coupler and pinion nut.
I have a 2007 360 4x4. Mine is almost exactly the same except mine is air cooled and has a oil cooler where you have a radiator and my rear end is different with a wet break system. So when you do videos on this model I can use them for reference on mine right? Just wondering. Thanks, love your channel 🤣👍🏻🤘🏻
On the rear of the bike. There’s a large black hose/duct that goes from the bottom section up to the seat area. What is that for? Because mine is missing the portion that goes up to the seat area.
My Prairie 400 transmission is block. Can’t move my transmission handle to the neutral position. So can’t start. I tried to hold the handle and foot brake to by passe the lock. Don’t work. Shake it nothing happen. Do you have an answer pse Thanks in advance Andre
I have a 2000 kawasaki prairie 400 4x4 with a problem with the rear wheels will not turn the front wheels work fine but the rear are not turning , rear differential has oil and not making an noise at all .any thoughts?
Hello I just got one of these in trade that my friends daughter tried to jump start the battery and burnt up the igniter box. Before I spend $500 on a new one what should I check to make sure the new one don't burn up? Btw it is a model year 2000 400 4x4. Thank you
Eric. A new one wont be burnt up. Are you purchasing a used one? Not against the idea but unfortunately there is not test for these except for installing them to make sure they work. Sorry I didn’t have better news. You might check with Rick’s electronics. They are a good reputable electronics dealer. Thanks for watching.
Quite the informative video. I recently inherited an older version of this bike. Forgive this stupid question, but I can't seem to figure out how to engage the four-wheel drive, there doesn't seem to be a switch. Also, I get a slight rattle-like sound as the engine spins up, but it stops when the engine revs high enough. I should also mention that it stalls when the fuel switch isn't on reserve. Care to explain that, too? Thanks.
@@MidNebraskaMotorsports thank you for the reply. Yeah, it's the 4x4, found out it engages in low or something. I'll see what I can do about the clutch and the petcock. Thanks again man, I appreciate it!
Can you turn the idle screw down. If you've done that and it doesn't fix it we can either go through your carburetor for you or you might have an air leak. Let me know either way! Thanks for watching.
Going to look at a 2000 Kawasaki Prairie 400, any way to test the rear diff? Would you even recommend the Prairie 400? If the diff goes out can you buy a new one or is rebuilding the only way to go?
Hot wire it. Look for those instruction on the black market. Honestly I'd just replace the switch. We have several of them for cheap: check out: www.ebay.com/str/midnebraskamotorsports
Make sure your battery terminals are on correctly, + on +, - on -, if they are connected wrong the starter will spin the wrong direction and wont engage the motor.
I have a 1999 300 prairie it’s running a little rough and bogs down when I push on the throttle if I don’t have the choke on. Doesn’t bog down with choke on. I’ve cleaned the carb everything checked out good, changed the oil it looked fine, and changed the spark plug it was a little odd I saw oil on the old spark plug like it was coming up through where it threads in not leaking down into it. What would be your assessment sir? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hey
Hi sir, so I finally got the quad running good. A shop figured out that it was the fuel valve that was causing my problems. It wasn’t allowing fuel through. Quad pretty much runs awesome now, other than if I’m running it real hard it acts like it misses out every once in a blue moon. The shop said I need to try and find an original Kawasaki carb for it. They couldn’t find one they think they’re discontinued. So I’m wondering if you know where I could find a used one and rebuild it?
@@MidNebraskaMotorsports thank you. I just bought a 2000 prairie 400 4x4 with super low miles just sat most it's life so I've done oil change and diff fluids and belt just need to flush the coolant and re fill but I'm not seeing the drain. Also is there a way to tell if the radiator fan is working? Thanks
Hi. Great channel! I just bought a kawasaki kvf 400 from 99. Nothing happens when I push the start butten. Not even a click sound. (Ignition on and in run possession and the fuses are intact) Do you got any idea what the problem might be and where I start looking? Thanks.
Waaaaaaaay to thorough. I understand you gotta talk basic because there’s plenty out there that have no idea, ( I barley have an idea myself lol ) but damn, I felt like I was going backwards in time waiting to hear about the common issues. Don’t remove cap when hot- I almost shut it off there lol

I got grey engine oil. Is the water pump head gasket a common problem on these engines? Or could it be something else?
Is the 4 wheel drive actuation automatic as well? Don’t see a 4x4 level or switch.
