finishing this up before I start the RoW ep yall dropped. Dawnshard was a rough one for me. I couldn't find it Graphic Audio and it took me 3 or 4 tries to get to the end of the Michael and Kate recording. I love the sleepless and the fabrial science parts, crazy interesting and shaping the future of the cosmere as we speak. the Dawnshard itself is something I have a very poor understanding of. I am desperate for more Rysn povs.
biologist here - taxonomy is very messy and can’t really explain or divide everything perfectly in our world either. definitely impossible to analyze anything in respect to a hordeling monster 😂 but just because things are different species, doesn’t mean they can’t reproduce together. especially with sleepless being some kind of hive mind “creature” who knows how they reproduce, but i highly doubt it is anything to do with regular internal fertilization. budding or fragmentation or just simply external fertilization are much more likely imo 🤷🏼♂️
If it’s creation of reality stuff, it seems like there must be an order to the Dawnshard commands. Something like: let there be matter (so stuff exists), let there be disparity (so not everything is the same), let there be change, and I’m not sure the last one. Maybe we need one to create time or life, but I could see those being subcategories
God said let there be light! I think the four commands are a play on creation myths. 1- exist, or let there be light or live. 2- create, or make new life, invent new things, learn. 3- change for the better. 4- end, or let there be darkness, return to the spirit web, recycle
Surprised we didn't make the connection between a metamorphisizing Lancerin and the fact that Rysn has the Dawnshard of Change. Thematically appropriate and imo some huge foreshadowing!
about Preservation and Ruin being stagnation and destruction. I think in balance, Preservation could probably also be considered Perseverance (those that survived being preserved and growing) and Ruin could be considered Renewal (like a forest fire being a good thing within reason)
My theory (that I don't necessarily think is all/even true, but is something I was thinking about after hearing that there were originally 16 dawnshards in dragonsteel prime) is that dawnshards are what's left behind from the splitting of another Adonalsium-like being who helped Adonalsium create what he did. In a similar way to how "dawnsingers" and "dawncities" were terms thrown around before the term "singer" was given to us to recontextualise them as something we've already seen, maybe dawnshards will turn out to be more similar to shards. Also, when all of the humans took the shards and created/populated their own worlds, they all added humans to live there. If Adonalsium created Roshar, maybe the very different life on the planet is because the original "Dawn-Adonalsium" was something more like a singer?
Agree with Destroy, I think Nightblood is either the dawnshard of destruction or was created by it. For the other two, I'd suggest 'form' and 'persistence' or something inverse to 'change' and 'destruction'.
@@davidsonderby3676I think all of these have appeared as a Capital Letter word at some point, though “Survive” started a sentence in secret history. Brandon is playing tricks on us. I would agree that I think the Destroy Dawnshard was used to create Nightblood (which is why Brandon says it contains Ruins investiture, Ruin being a shard in the “Destroy” quadrant of Shards). If my theory is correct, the 3 of the 4 original Dawnshard holders took up shards: Leras held Survive and took up Preservation (and passed it to Kelsier in Secret History), Edgli held Destroy and took up Endowment, and I would make an educated guess Tanavast held “Unite”.
Needed the distraction
You guys are awesome 👍😎
I just like that there's apparently an underwater tunnel leading directly to the cave with the mural, not even a locked door or something in between.
Maybe a Larkin is to a Lancer, as a horse is to a Ryshadium.
That was always my assumption. Larkin + luckspren = Lanceryn

12:30 I suppose Sazed has certain parts back. He does it. It just needs an extreme level.

I suppose thought might be the fourth Dawnshard, but again that seems like a subcategory more than a fundamental category
No, it would have to be ‘let there be life’ because a religious guy like Sanderson wouldn’t consider humanity to be a mere coincidence

36:12 This isn't that strange! Axolotl, for example, are a species of salamander that don't naturally undergo metamorphosis!

Guess on the 4 Dawnshards:
Change
Survive
Unite
Destroy
Agree with Destroy, I think Nightblood is either the dawnshard of destruction or was created by it.

Totally convinced the dawnshards are: Change, Maintain (or Stay, or another synonym that refers to Stillness), Feel, and Think
