Made in Abyss is KNOWN for having an S-tier OST! Both Season 1 and Season 2 are filled with absolutely incredible tracks. Kevin Penkin was FULLY in his bag for this entire series. Highly recommend you check out the rest of the tracks from the show!
And now he made OST for Apothecary Diaries, he is making an OST for 2nd season of ToG as well as the OST for remake of Spice and Wolf. He really is working hard :D
Made in Abyss probably has my favorite score over even Attack on Titan because it inspires me as a composer to be greater than I am. Composer Kevin Penkin shows me ways to write music I wouldn’t have ever dreamed of. Here’s hoping for a part 2!
For me it basically depends on what I last listened to. Hiroyuki Sawano's AoT Suite is just God-tier, but then I hear this and Kevin just blows me away. Both of them are just incredible talents.
oh god these memes still haunt me to this day. tbf tho... he really had his reasons, one can argue what he did, whatever the deeper reason he did these experiments and everything else for (2000 years??), he had his reasons, we just dont know what the reasons are. but still, what the result of that, what he did is ofc still horrible
Honestly just all his work in general, was impressed by his work on shield hero massively despite it not being my type of anime, I love the soundtrack.
@Noctislolig holy, this is the first person I’ve seen that agrees that his ToG ost was just ok. I’ve always said this and got slandered for it 😭, don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad, but it didn’t feel very emotionally expressive like his other work.
made in abyss perfectly captures the mystery, excitement, triumph and suffering of a grand adventure. One of a kind series, 20+ years of anime and I don't know any story that could top it. Kevin Penkin's use of discordant elements and experimental fusions of live classical instruments with electronic music is crazy, I love how he's not afraid to bend rules and break expectations.
Man Made in Abyss honestly has the best ost I have ever heard and I really hope you do a part 2 and hear more. As for recommendations i really like "reBirth" "Dark Reg, Nightmare fuel" "VOH" and if you want one with English lyrics "gravity" all from Made in Abyss
Google says: "Hanezeve Caradhina" is an insert song from the anime original soundtrack. It was composed by Kevin Penkin, and features Takeshi Saito as the vocalist. The lyrics are not in any real language, though they are based on the qualities of German and Icelandic.
There is some interesting lore about the production of this music. Keven Penkin recorded this in a big empty room using ambient mics (the syncrhon stage IIRC) to try and give it the feel of being this huge amount of instruments but still tiny compared to the giant space of the abyss.
Missed out on Tozo Hanoline and VOH! The language used in most of the ost songs is in no particular language at all, it's kinda like the chaos language from NieR
The Made in Abyss soundtrack is incredible, and the show is amazing too. The language the first song is sang in is actually a fictional language from the show, which I think allowed the composer to really play with the syllables so that they worked with the music perfectly.
Honestly probably my favorite anime of all time! Sooo good and the score only adds to the greatness! One of the best stories ever being told in this! Get over the couple iffy scenes and it’s the best ride of a show I have ever seen!
So kevin penkin talking about the process for composing music for shows and he basically said they tell him what emotion they want for a scene and sometimes theyll tell him specifically whats happening in a scene and he would make music that fits the emotion or scene He talks about it here: ua-cam.com/video/srdgNtMhrj4/v-deo.htmlsi=--x11RSjIFEZsIin&t=1782
Ayeee we made it here! the Hanazeve songs aren't a real language but take inspiration from German and Icelandic. I live with Transcendance and Hanzeve on repeat and I swear you can't tell when it ends and starts again. A perfect looping song.
It just takes the first few notes of Old Stories for me to start crying. Once you watch the show the song is so incredibly beautiful but profoundly sad.
Just so you know, the language used in all of these pieces was invented for this show in order to add to the feeling of mystery, exploration & the unknown that is a key theme underlying the plot.
The sountrack is so good and unique, I highly recommend checking out a few more songs from it's OST: "Gravity", "Tomorow", "Faputa" and "The Rumble of Scientific Triumph"
Kevin Penkin is phenomenal and amazing with his work. Another one who I love is Evan Call who has done incredible soundtracks for Violet Evergarden, My happy marriage and Frieren which are all incredible pieces of work
Sometime you should check Yuki Kajiura's work, she is one hell of a composer and has a very solid career!! One of her most famous (and appreciated works) is the soundtrack she composed for Madoka Magica, the music for that anime is absolutely marvelous. Great video as always, I love Kevin Penkin and Made in Abyss!!!
“Love you Halsey, you amazin’” I’m dead. You’ve killed me 😂 Seriously though, I’m glad you all enjoyed this OST; I think the point you made about the dissonance in these tracks is pretty insightful. At its core Made in Abyss is a story of exploring somewhere unknown, which isn’t all that uncommon of a premise. But what really sets it apart in my eyes is how they manage to make the world itself feel truly Other in a way that a lot of stories can only dream of, and Kevin Penkin manages to translate that to the soundtrack masterfully. Even at its most beautiful/lighthearted, everything still has this very dark and twisted undertone; the orchestral arrangements are incredible, but that dissonance feels like it’s lurking under every track in a way that feels very unsettling at times
Freaking love the vibes in this music and in the video. This is the first time I hear the Made in Abyss OST and just vibin with the music and you guys was ...an experience. Can't wait for more vids and don't mind me, I'm gonna go listen to the rest of Made in Abyss OST.
Made in Abyss' soundtrack seriously is top of the top. The way Kevin has encapsulated the full feel/vibe of the show into the OSTs is really genius! I love watching people discover Made in Abyss and the beauty that it is. 😭❤❤ Thank you for appreciating the music.
Every time I listen to music from this anime I can feel the tears welling up. Hanezeve Caradhina is my favorite song in the Ost and the fact that it is a thread that goes through so many of the other tracks makes me feel so many emotions. Because of the part of the show that Hanezeve Caradhina is related to, it HITS LIKE A TRUCK when it appears in Transcendence and Hanezeve because of the themes of that movie.... I can't explain it without spoiling the show... but I will say it has to do with parents, and one characters relationship to a parent contrasted with a different characters relationship to the person who raised them... and how that story ends.
Been waiting for this one for a LONG time! The Made in Abyss ost stands against every single other soundtrack ever made in being one of the most beautiful and unique soundscapes ever created. I am so glad you listen to you listen to this OST, alto i would like to have a part 2 :D. The anime itself is probably in my personal top 3 with AoT and Vinland Saga. It is just so unique, and the entire show just screams Quality. Be warned, tho, the Abyss is cruel.
The whole Made in Abyss OST is so good! As well as Kevin Penkin´s other works. Love the mix of orchestral and synth sounds. Personally I love Part 3 of the OST (Season 2) the most. The songs not used in the anime are amazing too.
As you've probably read, of this is made by an Australian composer by the name of Kevin Penkin, an absolute legend both in music ability and personality. If you're gonna listen to a full ost from this show I think the movie's ost has probably the most consistent great songs. Because the movie has so many bangers because of how cinematic it is. Hanazeve Caradhina and one song from Nier:Automata are 2 of the only songs that can make me so emotional I could cry if I wanted to just let it take me by the hand and lead me. IDK about the language of this song, but if it's anything like Kaine;Salvation (The Nier:Automata song that I highly suggest you react to if you haven't already) it's made up of a sort of "chaos language" where the words are made up, but you almost feel like you can understand the meaning and intent behind them. For example, Hanazeve Caradhina is a strange mix of hopeful and adventurous, mixed with a trepidation and uneasiness about the journey you're about to go on, as well as an underlying fear of the unknown. Nier:Automata's Kaine;Salvation gives me a feeling of loss, of love, and of a lost love, and again a hopefulness that maybe in some afterlife if one exists I'll be able to reconnect with them.
