Actually I don’t think Damien dropping his friends would do anything. The main problem is Damien’s home life. His parents never pay attention to him and he feels he has to work hard to earn his dad’s love.
Instead I hope that his friends get some character development and get a personality and not just praise Damien. Looking at the manga there might be hope. Damien still needs his friends and not isolate himself because another of his problems is that he is too mature for his age and he needs to just enjoy being a kid.

it's not all of his character, its just the cutest part of his character, every reaction I've seen has peoples hearts ripped out at seeing how isolated and lonely Damian is and wanting him to be cared for like Anya is.
But focusing solely on his pain is a downer so all of us like to look at him desperately being a young boy and going 'no, I am TOTALLY not liking her, shut up!'
I mean in this episode the best moment for me was when he looked actually hurt and scared that she's only sticking around him because he thinks she's like the others and thinking he's important because he's a Desmond. Everyone else he doesn't care about, but Anya it's painful, so then he reacts like a little boy does.

One thing that's been a constant since this was started as an anime is the 'good vibes' that it gives everyone who watches it, because it is a slice of life comedy and it's about the Forger's family bonding with goofy things in-between.
I too want to see more drama shown and I think season 2 will have more focus on Damian as there's now a connection for him to get close to Anya, I'm betting we'll see some serious moments from him soon.
