This is the difference between talented people making music out of passion and untalented people making music for money. If these guys had lived in another country they would have been multi millionaires but I don't think that was so important for them. It is fascinating to see how easily they playand how well they control the instruments and the vocalist....one of the best voices ever, and watch his face expression!!! They make all the modern musicians and singers look so smal.
This guys are real musicians. They live the music and it runs through every inch of their body. People like this are born few in history and the world is emptier, sadder and darker when they are gone. They control the music on a level that is absolutely mind boggling.

Why would any music be isolated to either it's cultural/ethnical or geographical centre (even making the claim that one of those is central in this music feels a bit odd)? And why are you so keen on stating this separation? (that no musicologist would agree on by the way)

Baladele, doinele, horele etc. sunt cantece traditionale (din folclor) romanesti, acestea, dupa cum spune si mariansarbu, sunt preluate, imbogatite si cantate de catre diferiti lautari. Chiar daca sunt rromi, trebuie sa-i respectam pentru ca sunt singurii care inca transmit mai departe cate ceva din cultura noastra romaneasca. Intr-adevar avand in vedere ultimele evenimente multi confunda romanii cu rromi, dar nu-i vina acestora ci a statului roman care nu ia atitudine. Bravo lor.

E posibil sa fie un haiduc mai mic din zona de unde este cules cantecul (cel mai probabil zona Brailei)... ca personalitate nu am gasit nimic despre el in studiul meu de licenta "reflexe istorice in folclorul roman"

For one like me, so tired of "gypsy" soap operas this is really refreshing. I attended a concert in Mexico City and I loved them intantly.
