- In this video, I do a winter hike up Mt. Flume, one of the 4,000 footers in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The summit was about 10°F and had one of the most gorgeous undercast I've ever seen!
Route: Parked at the Lincoln Woods Trailhead in Lincoln, NH. Took the Lincoln Woods Trail and the Osseo Trail to the summit of Mt. Flume then retraced my steps back to the car.
11.23 Miles, 6 hours total.

Son and I tried out our new micro spikes and gaiters hiking cathedral and white horse ledges on the same day you did Mt. Flume. It was a great day for a hike anywhere in Nahamsha!
Love these!!! Good job on your videos. They r beautiful. I love watching Cali too! So fun!
Awesome hike, thanks for sharing.
That dog is living the life!
And the doggo almost ended up a kite.
Looking on google earth that hike looks fabulous any time of year.
Beautiful
Congrats!
Awesome scenery! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! I was on Liberty ! Yep, some rad undercast!
It was amazing!
This is why one hikes. The beauty is all worth it. Learning is always good thing. Thanks for taking us with you..
Very cool intro to this one!!! And so much snow!!
Thanks! Love the snow!
Whenever I see a video that in the introduction has a sign announcing a "wilderness", I know it is going to be a great video. This is a great video and one that will be remembered with the stunning views and the acrobatic steep stair climb with one hand holding a camera and the other hand holding a leash.
And I would say that Callie should be up for nomination as dog of the year pretty soon, and it is very nice that she brings you along on HER hikes.
Beautiful scenery and hike. Looked cold and windy but very beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful hike and video. I hope that you had a good winter survival kit with you. Good Luck, Rick
I love your video I’ve hiked Flume many times during the summer. just don’t know enough about winter hiking at the altitude but I will like to try it some day.
Magnificent views...
Amazing Views!
Super awesome! Thank you
Great video as always Taylor.
You just missed my husband. He ran into that couple hiking up to Flume from the LS Trail and commented that they were on their phones the whole time instead of enjoying the view. Looked like a beautiful day. Love the undercast.
Thank you for sharing your little adventure on such a bluebird day. I love seeing you and Kali enjoying a day together !!
Nice way to start off my Saturday, watching Taylor and Caleigh hiking thru the snow to the top of Mt. Flume. Very enjoyable viewing.
Okay, thats some déjà vu. I watched this video a few weeks ago, then by chance I watched another video of a Liberty/Flume trip... it turns out it was the people you met on the summit here. I recognized your dog and thought to myself "Gee, that looks like the dog from a few weeks ago?!" Sure enough it was. Small UA-cam we have here. Going to go up Liberty/Flume myself on 1/24/22.
This was an especially beautifully shot video, Taylor! Thanks for sharing your hikes with us!
That really was a gorgeous view up there! What a great day hike. These 4,000-footers should be getting you tuned up for the AT. It won't be long.
This woman is in incredible physical shape. Wow!
It is so beautiful up there! That is an awesome winter hike. I just can’t thank you enough for taking those of us at home out into the woods with you. Beautiful views, great photography, and of course, Kali is a super star. Keep ‘em coming!
awesome vid. I love hiking. Going to do the carters and wildcats on Mon, Tue & Wed. 31 4000 footers "down/up" and 17 to go.
Nice! Have fun!
Amazing scenery and views. I was wondering if your puppy gets cold? That was just amazing and fun to watch. Thank you so much and be safe and well.
Great views ! I like that you went over your mistakes , most people are too prideful to be transparent, Nice ! Keep hiking 🥾 and God bless you !
Thanks!
What a beautiful day & hike. My pup loves to take breaks off the trail to rub his belly in the snow.
Wow what a beautiful day and the views were breathtaking! Great video too... like how you stated the mistakes you made, good way to teach others. Looking forward to your videos on the AT.
Thanks for sharing the hike and the beautiful pics!!!
Hey cool, I think i’m doing this tomorrow!
Omg your dog is so cute. I LOVE osseo trail. Flume and Liberty were my halfway point for the 48, so hold a special place for me.
So beautiful. I love being above clouds.
Back with you again this year, hope this year is better than last on the AT good luck
I hope so too! Thanks
Absolutely breathtaking and the snow everywhere was beautiful. Kalie is so smart and I love watching her hike with you. Kalie will miss you when you are on the AT!
Beautiful!
What a picture perfect day!
Those trails looked beautiful with all the snow! Loved all the footage and photos in this video. Thank you for making this and sharing your hikes!
Another great video, thanks for sharing 👍
Great video as always. I’m looking forward to following your AT hike again this year.
You mentioned that Cali was cold and that she had trouble with snow balling up between her pads. Have you considered getting her some dog booties or a dog coat/sweater? I bundle my dog up when it’s cold and windy. She seems more comfortable when in her dog coat.
That was great winter hike video footage
Gosh that was beautiful Taylor! And Kali is sooooo sweet!❤️
Thanks for sharing! WOW what a treat seeing those incredible views! I have never seen Liberty and Franconia from that point of view. Keep shaking down that hiking gear for the AT! My son bought me gaiters for Christmas, I haven't been able to try them out yet since we have only had a few inches of snow in the woods here so far this season in the PA mountains.
Wow those views were so fantastic. Such a relaxing video. Thanks for making!
Beautiful scenes and ,the snow going up the trail.
Such a gorgeous day!
Great hike and a beautiful place, Callie loved it.
Great video, you are getting more creative and it's fun to see!
Beautiful views. Love the video. The music was soothing.
All good video. I am glad that all is well at work, it's about time you got out on the trail again.
Very nice winter hike and vlog. Thank you! There is no snow in most of CT so I enjoyed this. I have never done that hike before but have it on my bucket list. Perhaps this summer when I take a few days off to travel to NH and hike the Bonds for the first time.
PS. The video quality and camera positioning was very good. Somehow you managed to cut out most of the wind noise atop Flume. Kudos!
Beautiful views, nicely done. Thanks for sharing and for the “things I learned “ section. Lincoln McDs here I come!
Okay. Your winter hikes stress me out 😂
Please make sure you're always well prepared and have the proper gear 😊
I worry about you guys🥺
This was my first winter hike. I was a stupid, unprepared hiker at the time and didn’t research the trails. I went up flume slide trail. It was interesting, but fun.
oof! That sounds scary haha
Excellent video! I miss NH so much
Wow...those were definitely amazing views and congrats to Callie for another 4000er in the books 👍👍👍
The views were the best! And Kali says thanks!
Way to go! Maybe I can get encouraged to do the same.
Thanks!
Beautiful post!!! I'm doing Osceola tomorrow. Rock ON!!
Awesome views! Enjoyed the vlog. Callie's zoomies made me laugh.
Picturesque videography! Congratulations upon another summit.
Have to put this one on my list! 🏔️
Those steps looked more like ladders with the snow on them. Brilliant vid. Take care
Awesome beautiful fantastic amazing outstanding vlogging hiking and scenery all the very best, looking forward to seeing your progress on the Appalachian trail.
Awesome views enjoyed the video
Good video, with some beautiful views of snow ❄ on mountain ⛰, good luck when you go back on the AT, so let's keep on hiking 💪 😀
I love your one handed ascent up the ladder as you filmed. I tried a one handed stream crossing on the Round Pond Trail near Gunstock and almost fell in.
I have to commend you on your balance. There is no way I could put on microspikes while standing.
The best thing about these New Hampshire Hiking UA-cam channels is that I get to see a lot of trails that I want to do but have not had a chance and I get to see new video techniques to use on my channel.
I love it ! so beautiful and your dog awesome ! I need to go up there .
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks! Kali had so much fun
Grabbed a few Beanies from your friends @ Eskap - Good stuff, thanks for the heads up !
Nice!! I live in them now. Thanks for supporting them!
When I first read the title of the hike, I thought you were doing the Flume slide trail!
I did it summer and it was tough! I can't image doing it in winter AND with a dog
Amazing footage. Perfect music choice for the summit video. I always thought being up high is mystical and you took us there. Thanks and congratulations Kallie.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Beautiful views , the under cast was a nice affect. Smoky mountains Georgia looking
Kudos to your winter hike, I prefer mid-spring to late summer but looks very placid.
Simply stunning! I really liked this one. Cute dog too 😊👍🏼🙏🏼
Thank you so much 😀
Wow I am impressed and only half way thru. I don't knowif its the view or the fact of what great shape your in. Ha and your dog as well. Cant wait for you to start the A.T. when is that again? I don't want to miss out.
Looks chilly 😬
So jealous of those views!
I see you have the red microspikes now. Nice choice. Now if one falls off you’ll notice immediately.
I find it's even better to learn from other's mistakes. Currently not a winter hiker, but your video is getting me to consider it. I would be interested in more info on your winter hiking gear, particularly boots, snowshoes and traction if you have time to record before your AT trip. Peace, Love and Kindness.
Awesome timing Taylor. This popped up as I was going to sleep. I have an early morning rise tomorrow for 11 mile hike with my team . Heading to Shennendoah. The scenery was incredible and now I am fired up after watching this beautiful hike. Thank you. One question do you force yourself to drink water on cold days? I have an issue hydrating on cold days because I am not sweating like in heat. It is still important to stay hydrated correct? Thank you again😀👍
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed! I do have to force myself to drink water when it's cold.. so I always add the flavored electrolytes to help. Also, my water kept turning to slush because it was so cold, so i had to keep drinking before it could freeze. Enjoy your hike tomorrow!
Next time ditch Kali and let’s see you vlog on that icy Flume slide 🤣 bring out the ice axe and crampons. Franconia Ridge doesn’t look particularly snowy at all right now actually.
Those Salomons are my GF favorite shoe ever!!! :) There's a reason they are always at the top on buyers guides and reviews.. :)
Good choice!
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker Did you like them?
@@TheTrailDancer yeah not bad after using them on two hikes. The back of my ankle felt like it could've gotten a blister if I went further tho
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker Ya; after wearing Altras or trail runners, going to boots sometimes can be very blistery. I just always wear a sock liner and it really helps. :)
You need to get out here to Oregon / PCT and do some hiking here in the summer :)
Deciding which peak to do next week.
Just an opinion... Calli cares nothing about accomplishments (45 of the 48 4K+), but as humans, we are fixated on accomplishments. Sometimes (not in all things) we should just enjoy the experience. This is not a negative comment on the video, just a reminder for people like ME!
Thank you for sharing, I was curious, how is the comfort on the Arc air, is holding up nicely so far :) Thanks!
Great video, Taylor. Glad to see you getting out on the trail. At 6:00 we see a ski area. Which one is it? Oh, and no trekking poles?
Thanks, thats Loon! And no trekking poles because I had a dog leash in one hand and a tripod most of the time in the other
How did you like your new hiking boots? I have a similar pair from merril that I love. They are not insulated but are waterproof. I change my sox out mid way on long winter hikes because they get wet from sweat.
Last time I camped there, the ranger told us to be aware of a huge black bear that was not afraid of humans. He told us not to even have food on our faces when we went to sleep! It was fall so we were sleeping out in the open. That was a little sketchy to say the least but what a great area to hike/camp!
Was that fall 2019? Sadly I’m pretty sure that bear had to be put down. He was all over the area stalking hikers and campers for packs and food.
Charles Robert-Wow! You might’ve been awakened by a bear licking your face! 🐻😬
Brrrrrrrrrrrrr! I'm not even sure I could speak at 4000+ feet with that wind and cold! I don't remember. Is Callie going with you on the AT?
Great video, and the views are spectacular ! Was there a reason you didn't use trekking pole(s) for this hike ? Would it have been overkill ? Just curious !!!
I don't use trekking poles because I had the dog leash. But if kali didn't come I probably would've used them!
E P I C
Congratulations Kali! Looks like a beautiful hike even though there isn’t much mud puddle opportunity in the winter time. I’m glad you brought your human with you, looks like she enjoyed it as well.
Chicken nuggets?!?? Did you not hear the McRib is back for another couple of weeks? 😜
chicky nuggies all the way
Beautiful camera shots! Thanks. What camera are you using? And, what brand pouch do you have on your pack harness for your phone? Thanks again!
Thanks! I use my phone, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and the pocket is from Gossamer Gear
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker Thank you!!! I have also been using my phone and am satisfied. I think I will stick with it. Since you are using your phone, what tripod do you use to hold it while hiking? Sorry for the 20 questions.
@@rodneyphillips5932 no problem! I use the "ultrapod" that I found on Amazon
If Callie qualifies for a 48/4000 certificate, it should come with a special endorsement for dragging a hiker up behind her 🤣
Hahah
Great hike, those stairs made me nervous. Did you us your new phone to capture this. Curious because I have the same phone, and I haven't taken it out hiking yet.
The stairs made me nervous too! And yes this whole video was captures on the galaxy note 20 ultra. I think it came out so good!
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker I need to take my new phone and my dog on a hiking date, as soon as it warms up a bit in Tennessee. 😀
Slo Mo Kali is Best Kali.
Which trail did you take up? I'm adding this one to my list of winter hikes
love the soundtrack what is the name of it
Thanks! But I'm not sure, I download copyright free music from a subscription service
