The wheels were spinning too fast when it landed with nearly no forward momentum, which sent massive torque through the drivetrain as they're forced to stop instantly.
I loved when you made the comment "your not supposed to hit bearings with a hammer!". And your answer to it was perfect, "don't worry, it's just a toy". Thank you for putting everything into proper perspective. You are great to watch, thank you.
It's not like hitting the outer race is likely to do a lot of damage in this case, but this is also pretty much an ideal situation to put the bearings in a freezer for a couple of hours and then use a vise and some sockets to push it in (if it doesn't just drop in after the freezing).
Hello Kevin, I am Roberto, yuor italian fan. I'm 46 and my family and I love so much to watch your videos. I really want to change my Life as much as you did and you are doing with eBay. I'm so tired to do my job as I work in a supermarket and everytime I come home I think how to do to change my situation. You are what I want to be for me and my family.
except the one in the beginning when he pulled it out of the van and it landed on the front left wheel in a way that looked like something was going to break.....solid build.
I loved that you showcased your dewalts, grabbed one tried it didn’t work threw it in the garbage then went for a 12volt Milwaukee. Best thing ever mate. Milwaukee all the way, out beats any 18 or 20 volt dewalt makita or ridgid!
I see you put double sealed bearings in the gearbox, try leaving the inner seals off so grease/oil can get in and keep them lubed. Also it might be an idea to upgrade the high load bearings from deep groove to roller bearings so they can handle the power.
That raminators an absolute Beast it's got to be quite a spectacle to see it launch like that in real life I remember the first time I seen a x maxx launching up into the air and it was just astonishing to see this would just blow my mind I'm sure
Removing the seal on a sealed bearing and adding grease is over greasing the bearing. The end result creates a bearing that will run hotter than an ungreased bearing. To much grease creates friction which turns into heat. No hate just knowledge I’ve learned in my trade. The trick to get that bearing out was great tho and I can use/test in my profession.
3:50 glad to see that worked. I read that bread works too. I had to do the same for a router I have but there was an edge underneath and I was able to get a tiny puller in that I have.
Love your videos! What I think would be a cool video idea is making a body shell for your $10,000 rc car that looks like your monster truck that you have in real life
Biggest Raminator Air FOR SURE!! 🚀 I Think Thunder RC went biggest before this one, now this is the highest for sure Kev Kudos to you for that Suspension setup... You nailed it with drilling out the pistons a bit and only one set of springs😍😍😎👍 See ya round brother
Kevin wow, I have not seen anyone else do that ( pressurizing the bearing )since I had to do that in 1990. I was rebuilding my Chevy S-10 engine. That is for sure a deep cut trick! Love it…
Think I'd pop those bearing seals for good and let the oil in the transmission lubricate them continuously. Love the trick to get the bearing out of the blind hole, never seen that before. I'd have been there forever using heat/reverse pliers.
That was a lot of fun to watch. I just love looking at all those machined parts. I think someone needs to tell the good folk at Raminator, and possibly any aftermarket parts makers, to put small radiuses everywhere there is a sharp corner on their shafts and driveline components. Maybe dial it back a notch on hardening processes too. Maybe then things won't snap as much. It's quite the engineering challenge to make something that big and heavy be durable as well.
Seeing the ram on the workbench really put into prospective the size of it wow its massive..and looks like kevs got the suspension dialled in now nice 👍
3:15 - Use white bread to take the bearing out. Old trick to get pilot bearings out of transmissions. Just stick some bread where the hole in the bearing is and then press. continue the process and the bread will push the bearing out.
After watching you for 3 years now, and starting my own little channel. The biggest thing you've taught me is that, consistency is key! And you are by far the most consistent youtuber on the planet! Thanks for the years of inspiration and entertainment💨💨🏎🚘
As consistent as he may be, no way is he the most consistent UA-camr on the planet as you put it, there are channels that upload multiple times a day every day every single day, so they would be more consistent, just thot I'd let ya know that making certainty claims such as that isn't wise unless your certain it's true........

I've never liked how bouncy those trucks are which is why Ive never wanted one, but that shock upgrade made a huge difference, looks decent when landing. The other thing is, you better have some money cause that damn thing is expensive! Great job on the shock upgrade that's the 1st time I've seem anyone do that!
Kev, it really is impressive how much knowledge you've gained over the years. Love watching your content, I don't quite have the budget you do ;) but even as an older gent I've learned to appreciate the hobby. One of the added benefits, my dogs absolutely love chasing my car around the yard. It really gets them needed exercise.
Personally, I feel kind of wary about the way the transmission on that only uses grease. I probably would have sealed it with gasket maker and filled it with gear oil. The grease does seem to hold up fine though.
I watch kev play with RC's cause they are fun, but i end up learning SOOOO much. so, is it a fun channel with education? or a educational channel with fun toys? either way, it puts a smile on my face!
Since the bearings are in a housing with grease in it, it would be best to not put the rubber covers back into the side of the bearing. Leaving it off it will always be lubed by the grease in the case. Then all you should have to do is routine grease change or even do away with grease and use automotive gear oil.
Yes he needs to start a channel! I’d sub for sure . The disgust on that ladies face when you fired it up. 😂😂 Didn’t know you could do that with a bearing. Awesome!
lol, you have to pick up the DeWALT (10.8v - 120$) from the trash, the Milwaukee Fuel (12v - 200$) can't handle that nut. Or chose instead the 18v DeWALT (minute 1:00) you had on the right. Thank you for your video.
The x-maxx a-arms like to break where the shock attaches. If you replace the captured pins with bolts with nuts it holds up much better. Just have to remove the pin, drill hole all the way thru and then insert bolt
On hard landings the gear box may be moving into reverse as it doent look like it takes much to move the slider. That may be what is breaking the shafts on drive cups.. Great send 👍
I get a little envious every time you do a video with your Primal RC Raminator but then I remind myself that I live less than an hour away from not only the real Raminator and Rammuntion trucks but the Maximum destruction team as well.
I know you love the noise but have you ever thought about putting a muffler on it so you can drive it more places? You could put something between where the muffler connects to bypass the muffler in places that don't care about the extra noise.

Using a gel ear plug to remove a blind bearing is utter genius. 👏👏👏
Agreed.
Never buying a bearing puller again, Kevins a genius for that one
I always use bread for it.really old trick
It's called hydraulic pressure.
big brain time.
Those landings where so clean. Shock setup is brilliant
To balance it I'd get softer rate springs but distribute the load over each of the two shocks.

bread does same
The Raminator sure is one sweet truck, love it 😀
Kev that tranz needs to be sealed so you can fill it with some diff fluid. Those spider gears are turning super fast and heat up quickly
Kev has become quite the RC expert. Phenomenal video Kev, nice landings! That thing has some plush suspension now!
This size of scale is so awesome to work in, you get to use power tools, and you get more room to work in and don't need a massive workspace
finally, a longer video!

That thing legit looks and acts like a real monster truck in the way the suspension moves and body rolls around. What a wicked little truck!

I was deeply impressed when you pulled out the bearing with the silicone earplug method. chapeau.
Kev, check out Redline oils suspension fluids. They list CST ratings below 100. I think they're for racecar/dirt bike shocks & forks.

Most epic rc jump EVER!!!! Scared me with those slow motion landings thinking something was wrong, just waiting for the gta death music 🤣
Cool jump!! Great landing! Glad it was not badly damaged.
Awesome tech tip for getting that bearing out Kev!
The balance of that thing is unreal jumps perfect
I feel like landing it under power is what caused the break at the end. Too much torque and a surge of resistance caused something to let go.
I can appreciate the quality of this build!
I wish I knew that trick for the bearing before! Great video :D
lol, you have to pick up the DeWALT (10.8v - 120$) from the trash, the Milwaukee Fuel (12v - 200$) can't handle that nut. Or chose instead the 18v DeWALT (minute 1:00) you had on the right. Thank you for your video.

The thing about removing bearings with silicon ear plugs is actually amazing! I will remember that one - Thanks Kev!
Bread works perfectly too
You are the best Kevin !
Really like all this tinkering! It's a big part of the hobby after all haha
Kev, You might find you need Nitrile or Viton O rings if you’re using mineral oil. I’m sure it degrades normal rubber pretty quick.
The x-maxx a-arms like to break where the shock attaches. If you replace the captured pins with bolts with nuts it holds up much better. Just have to remove the pin, drill hole all the way thru and then insert bolt
Soooo good.. You could tell how loud it was by how quiet kev was hahaha
When changing o-rings in the shocks, don't forget to apply o-ring grease to them. It makes the movement of the shaft butter smooth.
That landed perfectly with that shock upgrade.
You're living the dream man. I'm 44 years old and have always wanted a bad ass RC car and still don't have one.
2nd shock set really works well. They way that Ram handles now looks more like a Monster Jam real truck.

Great video (as usual). What kind of grease do you use? Normal marine grease?
On hard landings the gear box may be moving into reverse as it doent look like it takes much to move the slider. That may be what is breaking the shafts on drive cups.. Great send 👍
