I built a 40:1 worm gear set for my slewing ring once powered by 40 rpm motor. It worked flawlessly for hours, rotating with the finest of control. I tested it for days. I loaded 175 lbs ballast to one side of the upper and it worked very well. When I added the other 175 lbs ballast,,,, the plate in the lower that held the worm gear flexed ever so slightly and jammed. Oh the aggravation!!! Back to the drawing board. There are so many challenges in building such a thing and you learn so much along the way. You guys are doing a great job!!
Beautiful 4100 model. You guys have done amazing work! Do you know who ended up with TWH's model dies? I hope the dies still exist, as TWH made some great models. I have TWH's 1/50 Manitowoc 4100 crane model (dragline, magnet, clamshell, or basic crane version), and it is still one of the most detailed, and overall best models I have seen in 1/50 scale. The only complaint I had with TWH was that the quality control of their model assembly process was not always well maintained, which resulted in some models defects. I was able to work with the model supplier (or TWH) to resolve these defect issues, but the defects were rather disappointing. But I am sure it was not easy to produce in quantity models so detailed with consistent quality control, as TWH seemed to be a rather new company (on the die cast model scene) at the time, and I tried to take this into account in my assessment of TWH's models.
absolutly fabulous
