  • On this episode of The Camp Chaos Cars, I present my first Jaguar purchase, a 1978 XJ-6 Series 2. I've owned this car for 22 years and it's been a joy to own. Most days.

I had a MK-10 Jag which was a predecessor to the XJ-6. I loved it as well. For a big limo type car, I could toss it around like a VW bug. Great touring car!

    I just acquired 2 XJ6’s
1 is a 1972 short wheel base in Regency red sold rust free car hood interior. And only 63,000 miles It will get a transplant from the 6 to the 12 ( carbs) cleaned up and a cost of fresh paint.
1 also have a nice 1985 in BRG biscuit leather interior. again in nice shape. With 95,000 miles

Hello mate, thats a luvly old dutchess. Fair play to you, you've done a remarkable job restoring her. I know they're not a job for the faint hearted. I've spent the last 27 years owning , maintaing, and rebuilding land rovers and range rovers. So I'm quite familiar with the British Leyland group ethos on corner cutting with they're products. I might even say " I've done my apprenticeshipceship" when it comes to them. My old jag I've had for 15years now. All that time its sat under a tarpaulin, under a conifer tree, which has served as a dehumidifier. But i'v soon got to leap on it and weld it up. Guys like you are a huge inspiration to me. Thank you very much. I'm going to get her done.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

My Dad had one. They're wonderful cars. Sure, they can be a bit temperamental at times, but so majestic. A real driving experience.

Hello Bob. Very informative. In the UK the series 1 's were available with 4.2 or 2.8 litre . The smaller engine fell below a very heavy tax penalty for engines over 3litre in Europe. It had a habit of melting pistons but would rev' up to 6000rpm . I had a 4.2 auto and a 2.8 manual .If you wrung the neck out of the 2.8 it would perform nearly as well as the 4.2 auto. Regarding the series 2 over here , the 2.8 was replaced by a 3.4 and the 4.2 neither of which had fuel injection . We only had fuel injection on the series 3 . British Leyland were in serious trouble by then .The union's were constantly demanding exorbitant wage increases and were regularly on strike . The build quality of the Jaguar was awful and as a panelbeater /painter at a dealership l would spend 3 to 4 weeks rectifying poor paintwork . This involved removing all exterior panels and painting the bare metal area's left by the factory ! Regarding the XJC the Daimler Double Six is by far and away the rarest model . My favourite was probably the series 2 V12 Daimler Vanden Plas . Gorgeous interior with lovely mettalic paintwork and everflex roof . As you said the series 2 SWB only lasted a year. ( it made a much better track car ) We were offered brand new shells in around '73 for £200 delivered. If only you could turn the clock back ! And it was good to see you driving the Jaguar as one should ! Many Thanks . P.S. Have you seen XJ Jesse on UA-cam . A young man with a lot of talent and love for Jaguar saloons .

My dad had one of just a few Euro Spec 76' V12 Coupes(Not XJS, XJ12C) imported into California. Amazing car for it's time and I am STILL mad that he sold it.

That's a beauty. I really wanted a series 3 . but my head told me to get the x300 . If I had a garage and more tools and time I would have went for the series 3.

The Series III was a gap filler. Never supposed to happen. Jaguar planned to bring out the XJ40 after the Series II cars but the design and engineering works took too long. That's why the refresh of these Series II cars was outsourced to Pininfarina. There was a clay model of the XJ40 as early as 1972 and it was the last car that Sir William Lyons saw and approved before he died in 1985.

Beautiful motor. I'd have a brand new bigger rad and transmission cooler fitted if I was getting those issues.

'real nice looking car, much better looking than the series III.
I just bought a III for the Chevy engine/trans I'm going to put in my
    series II, a '75,
You surely know you have a III's door mirror?
Ya, you can see a lot with them but .........

I didn't know that. I'm told the car is technically a series III if it has EFI, perhaps there are other transitional differences as well. If that's true. The car does have a series III fuel injection troubleshooting guide with the owners manual.

Just letting you know that your on the wrong side of the road ! Over here in New Zealand over the years I’ve had several Series 1 and 2 quite often running on av gas also put Moreys oil stabiliser in the engine as with the Yak 52. Great video very enjoyable.

In fact I was slated to look at an 82 model series 3 xj6 it was white with a 350 concerto in and a fuel cell tank. . It would had needed a New interior and who knows what else as I bought the x300 and never made it to look at her.

Sorry not all xj6 where fuel injected in fact it was only in certain in the usa.
Jaguar xj6 did not become full fuel injected ubtil 1979 and the serie3 , even then the 3.4 version remained carb.
Those bumper where only fitted to north american car they are nasty i much prefer the proper bumpers which are much nicer with the two chrome over riders front and rear. The 3 part rear valance are easy bolt on bit they would rust within 5 years
Skinny tyres on a xj6 series2 never original size was 205/70 15. Avons that not a skinny tyre what you got on look normal.
