My Car Won't Drive or Move: 1967 Pontiac Firebird Rescue Project TH350 Transmission PART 12

- The car won't drive or move when I shift it into D in my 1967 Pontiac Firebird Rescue Project with a TH350 transmission. This 1967 Pontiac Firebird has been sitting for 25 plus years, and I am trying to get this ole Bird up and running. I couldn't really check the transmission fluid level until we had the car running and up to temp, and it shows we are a few quarts low on fluid.
This is only a temporary fix, I know soon I will need to pull the transmission and rebuild it, but just to get this 1967 Pontiac Firebird to drive around the block a few times... it will do.

There are no words to express my gratitude for this video regarding the transmission and adding transmission fluid...my stepvan is a 1974 Chevrolet P30...after having it parked for more than 14 years, I tried to move it and it did nothing ..neither forward nor backward, I checked the transmission oil level and apparently it seemed to have enough oil...well I did what you said...I warmed up the engine...I added 2 quarts of oil and it made me very happy By seeing how the wheels moved, thank you from the bottom of my heart, I saved $1,200, which was what they would have charged me in Miami to rebuild the transmission...thank you...thank you.
Hi quick question my c10 was parked for 2 years maybe or even more and tdy i tried to use it but it doesnt movee
@@JoeCastillo-cg2gf check the calipers and brake....out 2 quartes if transmission fuel
@@PinkGum316 just saw you message change fluid and filter got it to run but now it only works for like a mile until it stops turn it off and will work again but not like how it supposed to any recomendations
Absolutely love the car! She’s a smoker, much like the old blue hairs at the Casino!
hahahahahaha thank man, I don't know if I can get her to stop smoking... might have to pull the motor and put a smokers patch on her hahahaha thanks for watching!!!
Glad your making progress i hate winter too!!at least you have a garage to heat up!!everything i do has to wait on summer.that d&d always uses them b&m shifter kits in his tri fives may work for yours as well.hit him up,im sure he would walk u thru it!!snooky pa.
Allen I feel your pain, lived in the snow for 20 plus years... lol B&M is on my radar for sure! Thanks for watching and dropping your suggestions!!!
Excellent video and keep posted up for this firebird car ! Also shifter put floor type from 1970's year or parts dealer with T handle type !
Andrew great idea, thanks for watching man!
For the smoking issue, a hard run may help the rings reseal or you should check your pcv valve to see of it's working. As a last resort you can put in a can of the product called "engine restore" or if that isn't enough you can put a scavenge kit and vent the crankcase into the out going exhaust.
I am hoping once we get this Bird driving that is the case! Thanks man for watching!

Thanks for watching man, I appreciate it!!!!!
Is the oil pressure gauge hooked up? The needle didn't move when it started. Regarding the trans... torque converter leaked down while sitting. It may take take a few to refill as the converter holds four quarts.
That stupid plastic oil pressure hose that comes with the gauge kit broke :( I need to see if I can get a new set. And you're right, I think I might as well pull the pan, and put in a new filter and clean up things before adding more. Thank for watching and dropping some great ideas.
May have a B&M ratchet shifter. Switched from the th350 to a tremec.
I love how we both share F Body Cars and Cameras lol thank you man!
My 1967 firebird was not shifting into 2nd so i replaced vaccum mod still not moving, reading dipstick cold reads in right area, in natural idle reads very high on dipstick. Should i just drain all fluid and add from empty.
You might want to, remember the torque converter will hold a quart or so.
I just did an engine swap and My 4l60e won’t move at all I can break the whole thing down for you but short story I may have overfilled it then it locked up completely like it wouldn’t move in any gear I have now replaced the filter and put dex6 into the tranny if it still doesn’t move what do u suggest
I would pull the pan and replace the filter and refill the whole transmission again... if that doesn't do it... check the vac modulator on the passenger side of the trans.
🔥😭❤️
The 69s and maybe the 68s had turbo 350s as an option and they had the same console as the 67.
That's a great tip Brian, thank you man!!!
@@ArrowheadGarage You're welcome I seen the type of shifter I was talking about on marketplace last night after I commented if you go to a group called "1967-1969 camaro and firebird cars and parts for sale and trade" you will see one that was posted yesterday in Bristol, PA
