    I’m so glad to see so many of you enjoying this little Rijksmuseum Journey. And about this wonderful building, it still enchants me every single time I set foot in it. But so do many of my colleagues, even though some of them have worked here for over 40 years. You can still discover new details, such a great genius the architect actually was. Pierre Cuypers, the architect of this 1885 building, not only designed this building. He also created the painted details, and ornaments. We even have some of his original 19th century furniture and display cases on display for the public. And once again, thank you for this wonderful reaction! I truly appreciate it.

    Love this series, it makes me want to visit the museum again. If you want to see more beautiful paintings check out Hendrick Avercamp. He was deaf but became one of the best winter painters of the 17th century. Can't wait for the final part.

      Love Rembrandt for suggesting so much detail and precision with very crude brush strokes and thick slabs of paint and cutting in it with a knife. Van Gogh is such a trudger compared, but I have to admit, I'm not very sensitive to colour and don't like Van Gogh.

    The story of the Medway raid always makes me laugh. Even if some things went wrong and even if you can debate how it was planned etc etc... the balls on all the people involved to do this and pull it off is the balls we miss today really.

    • @jeanetteb2347
      @jeanetteb2347 Рік тому

      Yes, it also makes me proud as a Dutchie. But what happened a few years later? England ganged up with France and parts of Germany and totally defeated the Dutch Republic. We had the Annus Horribilis (Rampjaar), to quote a certain queen. And the Golden age ended there and then. But it is still good to know we had such strength that three big countries were necessary to bring one tiny one to its knees. We paid dearly for our fun on the Medway...

    The Dutch being completely done with religion had one problem. The poldermodel. Endless debates to make sure everybody had a say and the majority agrees on any given subject. Our politics are terribly boring and the processes are slow as turtles. :) But tolerance is a great thing that came from it too :)
