Zhou Shen is a popular Chinese singer who is famous for his natural beautiful voice. The puberty did little to his voice so it remains high and soft. He was ridiculed during his childhood because of it, but really loved singing, so he changed his major from dentistry to music school in Ukraina, under a Ukrainian national treasure tenor singer. He learnt tenor there, and self learnt falsetto, and also adopted Chinese operatic style, so his range is really wide. Additionally, he could speak in 6 languages.
In Super-vocal, he was classified as falsetto, but technically he is not, because his voice does not belong to any international category. Falsetto is rare, but his voice is even rarer. I think I have read that it is scientifically proved to calm your mind and get people to sleep, that is why he is dubbed Siren.

@@satsukihikari nice to hear that, I am also not a Chinese speaker, but we have a fanclub in Vietnam and the admins really help with translation. Also, I love his voice and find his story inspiring so I tried to find out more. At first, I just copy pasted his name on UA-cam and found a lot of beautiful songs that now I listen before sleep :))
Despite adversities, he remains warm and positive. After all these years, he is still a little humble boy who loves singing and wants people to remember a singer named Zhou Shen T_T. The emotions and sincerity can touch my heart even though I don't understand at all

You should check out all his performances on The Singer 2020 show in China. He really shows all his music knowledge of music and how to use his voice and skills to make all those performances of each episode are different. Please give it a try from episode 1 from The Singer 2020 show.

Strongly recommend The loney goatherd. It's a different him. Usually he sings angelic and touching songs, and Memory is aldready his best performance in terms of the two qualities.

I actually find it interesting that his voice is closer (or he made it closer) to original singer's voice when he sang in Chinese. During English portion, it is more of the norm of how he sings.

Hihi!!! thank you so much for this reaction!! Zhou Shen is a Chinese singer who is best known for the songs Big Fish. He has a gifted voice and he studied so hard in Lviv National Musical Academy. A funny thing is that he used to learn dentistry lol.
Due to his unique female-like voice, he used to be afraid to sing in front of people which is the reason he chose a video-based social network to sing. After years of struggling and practicing, he joint several of TV shows and sang for most of the TV series and movies especially Chinese animated movies.

In your words - you couldn't find much infor on him?? I must assume you didn't look...he is the singer responsible for "the shape of water" Chinese version, in addition to "big fish". One cannot escape his presence online/in person because the stunning singer that he is. I am a massive fan

Is Zhou Shen a counter-tenor?
I don't know anything about music, but many comments here said he is a tenor. Wiki says he studied Bel Canto at Lviv National Musical Academy.
I am not sure but my understanding is that classifying him is difficult because of the unique situation of his voice. It didn’t drop fully in puberty so he’s not coming to singing from the same place as most male singers. I am not an expert and just guessing but I think that for most countertenors, their vocal chords and bodies have to do something different to arrive at the high notes than Zhou Shen has to do. But I guess for some reason, people also wouldn’t classify him with female singer terms.
I watch so many singing / reaction videos and there seem to be arguments about what some of these voice categories mean anyway, or who belongs to which one.
