Again, thank you for taking the time and making this video. For a beginner like me, this has been really helpful. I'm sure I'll be watching both reviews a couple more times before I actually get the nerve to unbox and take flight. Also, thanks for reminding me about the crowdfunding risk I took. I was starting to buy into all the hype about what I "deserved" because of the money I risked when it really was just a risk. I do hope that the company comes up with some updates, upgrades, and succeeds because it seems like a cool little machine. Also, thanks for putting the music credits in. I don't know the technical on how you put your screens together, but good job all around on the posting.
Thank you for the video! Well done, with lots of useful information. I just unboxed my OnagoFly today, and you've filled in a lot of information gaps. Excellent perspective on the risks of backing crowdfunded projects too. Now it's time to get flying!
+Stephen Woodard, glad that the video was useful, how have you been getting on with flying it? In the meantime, head over to DroningON for some quadcopter advice! www.droningon.co/facebook, ALSO be sure to click 'SUBSCRIBE' above.
Great review, actually better than anything Onagofly has posted on how to use their drone! Really appreciate the detail! I actually had an issue with charging mine, wrote to their customer service and they told me to disconnect the battery before charging, so make sure everyone knows that! Still to take mine for its inaugural flight, may have to watch your video a few more times for some flying tips!! :)
Great review! I ordered mine Dec of 2015, and I just got mine today. I really was trying to stay positive and remember it was just a crowdfund product and at least they're still around. I tried flying it in my house first, but got no gps, so it wouldn't auto take off, when I took off manually it would go full throttle for a couple seconds before it leveled out, and would hit a wall or ceiling. I took it outside, followed all set up directions, and still no gps, (there was no sticker on bottom of mine) I could get it to hover on my own, and I agree, the tilt to fly mode was easier than I thought. When I hit auto land it would come to me where it took off, but keep going and run into my house. Even when I was flying it confidently using tilt or stick mode, the controls hardly made the drone move in any direction very fast, it took for ever to change directions or even make it go forward from hovering, I wish it had an atti/sport mode. I am an experienced drone pilot though, and I guess they do that for novice pilots, which this drone is designed for. Any idea on how to fix the gps? Is it possible a firmware update could fix it or am I just going to have to send it back? Thanks for any input!
Thanks for the great review :-) Could you please tell me the exact battery output (Volt) of the Onagofly battery. Your test shows different values between 3,32 V and 4,17 V. Do you think that the output is the same if you use the Red/Black cables instead of the Yellow/Black cables? I really would like to add an external battery package to my O and hope to achieve this with a regular battery holder. Thanks for your help!
+Kommentator, firstly PLEASE subscribe (www.droningon.co/youtube) to this UA-cam channel if you found the video useful, more coming soon! As for the voltage, it will always vary slightly but each cell should be 3.7-4.0v when fully charged, this is the reading that you'll get across the balancing cables. The reading from the red/black will be different (more like 7.4v-8.0v) because they aren't balanced, they're the cells in series.
+DroningON.co All reviews should be as good as this. After seeing this, I'm glad that I didn't purchase an Onagofly. I got a Parrot Bebop instead and have been very happy wit it.
Thanks for the very informative review. I was very close to backing the Zano project but decided against it, so was a little apprehensive when backing the OnagoFly. Mine too has yet to arrive - though it is marked as fulfilled over at Indegogo. Keep up the good work.
I just received my OnagoFly and first impression was not positive. I became frustrated when it failed to stay in the air. It was quite windy that day though. After watching your video I took away some positive notes and am excited to try again tomorrow. Will keep you posted. -tj
As requested at the end of your video, here are some comments from me. First, I found the "manual" almost useless, except for the diagrams identifying components. I'd hoped your video would clarify some of the things lacking, but either you didn't address them or I missed that part. Specifically, what are the different modes and how do you you change between them? It sounds like with the second icon with the G orange (you call it red, but it looks orange to me), you are in tilt mode, and with it off you are in gravity mode. Correct? If I want to fly it up and down only while locked in GPS mode, should I leave that turned off (grey)? And the rightmost button is the follow me button? I've not tried that yet. You also didn't address copying media from the drone. There are options to do this, copying, for example, to the iPhone's Photos app. However, if you do that, you always get a 640x480 pixel image, for stills. That is unacceptable, and I've reported it as a bug. It is, however, possible to access the files directly by inserting the micro SD card into a standard SD card adapter (which I happened to have), and copying to the computer that way. I see full 15 MP images that way. I'd also like to see a discussion of the various menu options in a future review. I think the GPS chipset must be an inferior or outdated one. Since you had yours apart, did you perhaps identify it? One thing about GPS, especially with older chipsets is that it may take some time to acquire additional satellites. The more satellites that are acquired, the better the position lock. It is probably a good idea to let the drone sit idle after the GPS turns color for a couple minutes to improve the signal before initiating any GPS-related activities. This may solve your issue that you describe as being fixed after the drone gains altitude and stabilizes. Simply waiting a few minutes before starting may have been just as successful. I'd suggest that in a future review as well. When I first tried out my drone, I apparently had version 1.0 of the app for iPhone installed. The UI was dreadful. Many of the issues I had with it were corrected for the current version (1.3.3). There are still some issues, though, which I haven't sorted out yet. Navigating from one part of the app to another is problematic. Why it starts out in portrait only and then switches to landscape only seems bizarre. It least button are not off screen like they were in 1.0. It would also be nice to know what the various alarms are. For example, right now my drone, which has been on without doing anything while I type this, is beeping steadily. What does that mean? How does one take a picture or video? For video, do you start it before launching or can you start it after launching? At one point I got a point of view screen with no controls on the screen. What is that mode, and if I'm in that mode and want to see controls, how do I do that? I may post more comments after I've had time to test it properly.
+Victor Engel, lots of feedback which is great. I'll try to address each point: - We agree, the manual is useless and we mention this in Part 1 of our review, please be sure to watch that review as well as it might fill in additional blanks. - All modes are covered in Part 1 review as well. - In Part 1 we demonstrate a nice and easy way to copy media from the OnagoFly without removing the SD card, you'll like it, its via wireless! - With regards to GPS lock and it not being very stable, unclick the black lid on top of OnagoFly, ensure that the two prongs are aligned with the connection points on the body of the OnagoFly, this is the GPS antenna and there have been reports of it not being properly aligned. - A steady beep apparently means either flat battery or that there is something wrong with it, beeping seems to be inconsistent between people's OnagoFly's and so we're not too sure. I hope that this helps a little, I'd recommend watching Part 1 (ua-cam.com/video/ntfj2ct8xHQ/v-deo.html) and that should answer some additional questions AND PLEASE SUBSCRIBE if you haven't already :)
OK. I got to your part 2 video by following a link from another video (not yours). I will view it when I have some time. I don't have a problem with GPS stability - actually, I don't have enough data yet. My point was simply that in any device that uses GPS, especially ones that use older/cheaper chipsets, the longer the device is on, the more satellites connect. The more satellites are connected, the more accurately the position is known. It sounded from your video like you were having issues with accuracy right at first. My suggestion was to simply wait for more satellites to lock in before starting. Doing so may get a more accurate GPS position even if the antennas are functioning perfectly. Additionally, if the GPS receiver can process WAAS signals, even more accurate positioning is possible, but WAAS signals may take some time to acquire. Anyway, I don't know what chipset is used by the Onagofly. It may not be set up to process WAAS, for example. The beeping that I referred to occurred when I had the drone sitting in the case but on (for the purpose of connecting so I could navigate the app). The battery was fully charged. I would not normally turn it on while it was in the case.
I just received an OnagoFly via eBay. After watching both your videos, I am more heartened that the drone will actually fly. I have yet to take it on a flight but had a question. Your first review version was 1.5. You then received version 1.0 for testing. The one I received was new in the box and is version 1.1. Will I have the same problems that you had with v. 1.5? Just curious. I'd like to be prepared if indeed I have a problematic OnagoFly. Thanks again for the really comprehensive review!
Great stuff. I got my Onagofly late, so it was already updated with the new firmware. It has performed pretty much like you describe and I'm having fun with it.
I did as you suggested and cracked off the thin lower shell, allowing me to fish out the microSD, Now I have a short battery-life problem I'm working with. Patience-trying, but so far hanging in there. Thanks for the reviews and the advice!
+Tracy Gates, unfortunately OnagoFly does need some more time before its worth considering. In the meantime, head over to DroningON for some quadcopter advice! www.droningon.co/facebook, ALSO be sure to click 'SUBSCRIBE' above.
Using the iOS app for Onagofly 1.3.3 model F110 (sticker on drone), much fun and success flying it. Agree with you on the random yaw movements and latency. I tried to control it via the screen(FPV) only - don't try unless you are in an open area! - and works ok as long as 2 seconds of latency was accounted for. One thing you didn't try was to take off from your hand then land on your hand!(this was after the initial, power up, 'level' takeoff procedure) Works great! If there's another source for propellers, please post - it's on the last set of props that came extra with order (flying too far from iPhone, over 100 ft altitude and near trees is a recipe for an 'exciting' video.)
You did a much better review this time and you were fair with the product. I too bought this drone and yes, it's no Phantom drone by any means but at only $300.00 it is the best drone in its price range currently. Everything works including obstacle avoidance. Maybe not as good as promised but it does work. I'm having a lot of fun with it and am impressed at how durable this thing is. I only wish I received the extra battery I was promised, it wasn't packaged with the drone.
Thanks Ashton(?) for a very clear review of your replacement drone. Curious, how did you get it replaced so quickly. I am an absolute rookie and have only attempted to fly my grandsons very inexpensive drone. (I crashed it repeatedly 😬). Your review and comments encourage me to find an open field an try again to get the Onagofly drone off the ground. My previous attempts have been made in very confined areas. Also thanks for reminding us that this is a crowdfunding product and we have received a product, unlike my experience with Zano. Looking forward to the App and firmware updates. My biggest concern is the latency in the controls from my IOS device.
Thanks for your review/instructional video. Great info!!!! This is a must watch if you have one of these units. You have tons of great stuff I haven't found on any other videos. Would love to know what app you are using to record screen shots of your phone. Kudos!
+OJ Utter thanks for your comments! I'm using 'AZ Screen Recorder' but only do so if you have a powerful phone, otherwise it'll interrupt your flight! Subscribe and SHARE this video, more coming soon, I promise!
I've taken my drone out a couple more times, and I have a couple more comments. The latest flight was this evening. I have a weather station, and according to it, winds were variable from about 5-10 mph gusting to 15 mph at around the time I was using it. I decided this time to turn the tilt mode off and simply see how well it held position. It did pretty well when I was very careful about leveling it before launch. I will probably start bringing my bubble level along to ensure a good level start. The strength of the wind wasn't really a problem. I think it can handle a steady wind of up to 15 mph OK. The problem is when there is turbulence in the wind. Of course, any wind that encounters obstacles like trees and buildings will have a lot of turbulence. I tried automatic take-off mode and taking off manually, and I didn't find a noticeable difference between the two. After getting home, I got that repeated beep noise I mentioned earlier again, and I think I know what it's for. It's to help find it. I suspect that if you leave it on without any input for some period of time, it emits the sound as a beacon so you can find it. Nice feature. Bottom line: for newbies like me, I think it's better not to try using tilt mode for the first few flights. Turn it off and get a handle on the throttle, taking off, landing, and even the camera functions while in GPS lock mode. Once you have some confidence with that, only then try tilt mode. I think there will be fewer crashes this way. A note about GPS precision - don't expect high precision from the GPS. Even your phone probably is accurate +/- a few meters. If the drone moves around a few meters, that doesn't mean it doesn't have a GPS lock. It may just be the lack of precision in the GPS data it has to contend with that you're seeing. Connecting to the drone via 192.168.1.254 is nice, but I'll probably be removing the card, because transfers go faster that way and also, I don't need the drone to be on, and my computer can still be connected to its normal network.
Insightful and informative. Still waiting for mine. Feel a bit nervous about it. The next couple of years will see a lot more of these small consumer drones. Some prop guards would be nice. For the future
+Dan Malay thought I'd add a Indiegogo Wi-Fi drone to my collection as an early adopter of something that will become quite common. Overly optimistic but will reserve final judgement until I get one. Kick starter projects can be risky etc. Build my own in future with proven parts
The Syma x5c doesn't have GPS or any autonomous flight other than a gyro to assist, its a completely different class of quadcopter. OnagoFly with some tweaks and a lot of patience may become a good little unit.
Very nice review, thanks for that. I just got mine yesterday, but haven't flown it yet. I wonder if running the wifi module externally will help boost the range and keep the battery cooler?
+Bill Lewis, glad that it was useful (please subscribe!) - this could potentially work as the module would be kept cool BUT it would also face the risk of damaging if you crash, its not worth it. In terms of signal, the antennas for the WiFi module run through into the legs of OnagoFly, one optimisation is to reroute these antenna through the holes in the underside of OnagoFly so that they hang lose, this might increase range.
I am grateful for this helpful and objective study, I have seen so many negative reviews but without the objectivity; I knew when buying a crowd-funded product there was a risk, it seems most other people don't. First time I flew it was great, second time a disaster but as long as Onago likes to receive feedback it will become better. The fake reviews are stupid and a sign of insecurity. They should trust the people and listen to them, unlike most politicians...
+Mark Barker, glad that the study was useful, it is my intention to be honest and clear in my reviews and to present as I see/discover. OnagoFly is quite an unreliable/unpredictable little beast sadly and despite pushing OnagoFly to release updates for app and firmware, we're yet to see one for a month...this isn't agile development and very disappointing for a kickstarter project which should be continually looking to improve. In the meantime, please SUBSCRIBE and also join the discussion on the official DroningON Discussion Groups: www.droningon.co/facebook
First thank for your great videos on the onagofly. Just had my first test flight of the drone. surprising easy to take off and maitain height. drifting lousy but that easy to fix in firmware with a gyro calibration routine on start up. only issue I am having now is with the app. couldn't get it into g mode and the app is totally different than what you show. have two joy sticks and no sliders makes it much more difficult for me as a beginner to control. running on a android. any ideas
Biggest nag for me is that I am used to the Phantom so this is taking a step back (albeit a different application). Do you happen to know how to update the Firmware (I see the micro/usb port on the housing of the main unit)? I wouldn't think that it gets any sort of firmware via the iphone app, right? My DJI/Phantom has idiot proofed the firmware updates. Figured it would be best to apply latest and greatest before I head out into the yard to give it a shot. Thanks for your video.
+Mike McCutcheon, yes its a very different little beast to the Phantom! OnagoFly hopefully will improve with firmware updates, see the 'Updates' section on IndieGoGo as I believe that they have no posted a firmware update tool? Hope that this helps!
+bizarreworld2002, it isn't particularly easy without a special tool - I'd recommend visiting your local hobby store and ask for a 'prop remover tool', they come with many props that you order. PLEASE subscribe (www.droningon.co/youtube) to this UA-cam channel if you found the video useful, more coming soon!
Great review. I haven't received mine yet, and in no rush, maybe it will work, I ordered it six months ago. My Airdroid Pocket Drone was a complete Kickstarter disaster, my Splashdrone Indiiegogo crowd funded drone was disappointing too. This is my LAST crowd funded drone ever...three times screwed.
What would you use that video for? It cant be better with a tiny camera without any gimbal , i know that. But i dont really see what anyone would use it for. I really would rather save my 300$ then getting this and only use it 3 times before i get bored
+Lars Martin Tangen, yes the video quality is good but the instability of it is terrible and unusable as you say. Only Electronic Image Stabilisation will improve this, OnagoFly know this and hopefully will work to implement it.
This is a very good review. It is well balanced with issues examined. plus flight testing so we can see what it does, an non-inflammatory remarks given and good advice given. Thank you. Unfortunately my drone never locks on to GPS so I have not been able to fly without immediately crashing.
+PetesNikon, firstly be sure to click the SUBSCRIBE button, secondly glad that you found the review useful and I may have a solution for you. Remove the black cover on the top of the OnagoFly, you'll see two tabs/prongs - make sure that those tabs are aligned with the contacts because that is your GPS antenna - once aligned, press the cover back into place and try again. Let us know how you get on! Be sure to join our discussion group for help/support: www.droningon.co/facebook
I like your suggestion, Ashe, I pried the cover off and looked at the contacts and they seemed Ok and I put it back. Trying it again outside my house I did not get the GPS still, until I turned off my house hotspot. I was thrilled at this, but then I started the drone and it took off and slid sideways and crashed, and now I cannot connect to it for more than a minute before it suddenly disconnects nor does it get GPS or any battery signal other than zero.
PetesNikon, well at least we know that the antenna is in place. Your house WiFi shouldn't affect the GPS in any way at all, can you confirm that you have the OnagoFly sat outside and not indoors? Once your smart-device is connected to the OnagoFly, try sitting the two devices outside and leave them for 5 minutes, see if the 'GPS' text within the app goes red?
Yeah just received mine and the GPS is not connecting. I've contacted them by email three times and no response at all. Yeah would like to return also but I can't seem to find anything on their website as to how this can be done.
VIEWERS, if you find this video useful then PLEASE subscribe, it only takes two clicks and supports my channel which enthuses me to do more reviews! So go on, it only takes a few seconds! ua-cam.com/channels/YoEOmvbMm0LX6AsIwANvug.html
Thank you for this very detailed and helpful video. I received my drone a couple weeks ago and was also disappointed with the follow me and obstacle avoidance features. Found it hard to fly in my living room as it veers off every time it takes off. The one feature I have not seen demonstrated or talked about is the smile detection. I went through the manual and don't think that I ever saw it mentioned in there. So has this feature been removed? I too believe that Onagofly fooled us with their fake video. I should have known it from the beginning. Especially the way it is designed. There's no way that the video would be as stable as the one they have on their crowd funding page. It does seem to fly pretty good. It's just the failure of most of its features. I know I probably should have been more patient rather than complain to them about not receiving on time. Just wanted to have by the time I leave for Hawaii this week. Again, thank you for making this video.
Unfortunately 'Smile Detection' was indeed removed, I believe that OnagoFly just couldn't get it working and so removed it from the firmware, a shame perhaps but then smile detection is fairly pointless on a drone.
A couple more comments. I saw in the instructions that I was supposed to connect the battery. Mine was already connected when I received it. Due to the cramped nature of the cabled, to reduce the probability of damaging connectors/cables, I intend not to disconnect the battery at all. I feel like the risk of something going wrong is greater with connecting and disconnecting it repeatedly than to leave it connected. Charging is awkward. With the charger connected to the ventral side of the drone, I have to set the drone upside down on its propellers for charging. Mine, by the way (received last week), did not have a sticker over the vent holes. With the heat problem, I may rig an external battery holder, which should accomplish two things: moving the hot battery away from the electronic components, and moving the center of gravity lower, thus, hopefully improving stability. This drone is small enough that even in short grass, the blades are likely to come in contact with the grass. Using a platform is needed. Fortunately, the case serves that purpose well.
+Victor Engel, that's a worry that they shipped it to you already connected, this means that the battery would have been live and draining during transit. You must disconnect it when not flying the OnagoFly, its a permanent drain otherwise and you risk damaging the OnagoFly AND causing a fire if something goes wrong. For charging, the lead should have one end which is at a 90-degree angle, use this into your OnagoFly and you can then charge the aircraft upright. Be careful with rigging the battery underneath, you'll then have the battery alongside the WiFi module again.
Have there been any improvements made on the Onagofly yet! I was thinking of ordering 2 of them for my grandsons! I found them online at Amazon for $149 but I had a coupon code to get them for $45! Please let me know something asap! Even tho thats a great price its still not worth it if the product is no good or doesnt work! Thanks so much! 😊
@@Droning-ON do u know anything abt the Mini Orion Camera Drone and if it is a good buy for a 13 and 14 yr old boy and their Dad? They have it for $35 at Wal-Mart and it was $99! It has excellent reviews out of 17 reviews! And they have the Elite Mini Orion drone for $45! Also do u know anything abt the HS 190? Do u have any recommendations for a good one to purchase in the $40 to $50 price range with a camera on it? I will be waiting for ur reply! Thanks so much!
Thanks for the extremely instructional video! My own experience so far with OnagoFly has been essentially identical to yours, and I think you have all of it exactly correct. The key point is, as you mention, realistic expectations. There is no such thing as a $300 Phantom 4. For what it is and what it costs, particularly as the first product of a new company, I think it actually does pretty well. Could not agree more that OnagoFly have been their own worst enemy by promoting what is actually a relatively decent product with a media campaign that clearly over-promises and sadly has resorted to some questionable techniques.
+Art Mandelin, thanks for your comments! Yes unfortunately OnagoFly does need some more time before its worth considering. In the meantime, head over to DroningON for some quadcopter advice! www.droningon.co/facebook, ALSO be sure to click 'SUBSCRIBE' above.
After a long wait, I received my aircraft 2 days ago, and have conducted 5 short outdoor flights of approximately 30 sec duration or less. All flights were conducted at altitudes of 5 minutes. On flights 2 and 3 the GPS came up right away. "Fly-away" occurred on all five flights, leading directly on flights 1 and 2 to minor crash landings in flower beds or weeds. All flights were conducted in "tilt-mode" and I held my phone level at all times. Numerous times, both before and after these flights, the aircraft would fail to power on the front right rotor, but when power cycled, the rotor would come on. On flight 1 the crash landing was preceded by a collision and brief entanglement with the leaves of a small tree; the unit was destabilized by this and fell approximately 10 feet into some tall weeds that cushioned the impact. On flight 2 the unit was performing an auto-land but had drifted into a flower bed and there was no significant impact with the ground. There was no obvious damage to blades or other systems from these crashes. Flight 3-5 all resulted in apparently safe landings, although on Flight 4 the aircraft bumped into the soft side of a covered Weber gas grill before landing. Flight 5 was a very short flight of less than 5 feet, both horizontally and maximum altitude. It ended with an apparently safe landing, but smoke was coming from the right front rotor. By the time I was able to disconnect the battery (< 2 minutes), the right front rotor housing was melted and the rotor would no longer rotate. As the aircraft is now incapable of flight, I have requested a replacement or refund.
I received my ONAGOFLY and it looked great right out of the box. The only problem is I cannot connect the app to the the drone. I is asking me to "Connect the camera. How do I do that?
+Art Bandy, few things to check - have you inserted the SD card? Also, if you're using iOS connect to the OnagoFly WiFi BEFORE starting the App. Join the discussion for help and support here www.droningon.co/facebook
I didn't listen carefully enough about installing the microSD, put it in with the writing wrong side up (or down) and the SD disappeared inside the body for good. What do I do now?
+William Seybold, it is a poor design, the only option is to break the small plastic trim underneath the slow (it easily snaps in the middle, then both bits fold out and can be snapped, then see if you can manouvre the card out? Alternatively, its 12 screws to undo the chassis and then see if you can retrieve the card BUT be careful, its very compact inside and you can damage OnagoFly by opening it and trying to reinstall it. I would recommend that you ship it back to OnagoFly for replacement if possible? PLEASE subscribe (www.droningon.co/youtube) to this UA-cam channel if you found the video useful, more coming soon!
Flew once. Second time is went haywire and crashed cracking the body. GPS connects but the unit does not power the propellers and on auto takeoff i get the message that the GPS is not stable. Sucks!
Thank you for your good and professional comments. I just received my package and try it asap. Your video was so helpful. Now I think that this product is better than lily.camera at least we have in our hand :) It is better for nothing. Please also inform us about fireware updates too.
+Murat Akkemik, glad that you found the video useful! In the meantime, head over to DroningON for some quadcopter advice! www.droningon.co/facebook, ALSO be sure to click 'SUBSCRIBE' above.
Nicely done. Lots of useful information. I'm baffled why anyone would support a campaign like ONAGOfly. At best you get what you paid for and all the other options are down hill from there. Wait till it's in a reputable store with a reasonable return policy. I feel ONAGOfly broke bakers trust with their fake promo video. I agree with your assessment of crowdfunding but only IF the owner of the campaign Tells the TRUTH. If you read the reviews that are part of the promo video it becomes clear the whole video is BS. When a campaign is full of lies than backers have a right to expect their money back. While some have succeeded most have not. Indiegogo should have suspended the campaign at the first sign of trouble but they kept selling product and collecting fees while ONAGOfly was going down in flames.
+Patrick Grady, I was one of the early testers and given one to review, my feedback has helped them to evolve OnagoFly to be FAR better than it was, trust me you should be thankful that I had one before you. You'll get it eventually and hopefully, it'll be even better, but I can't guarantee that :( do subscribe for more information and also visit our discussion group to join the conversation: www.droningon.co/facebook
I recently contacted PayPal to to try and get a refund. I left a rather scathing explanation. I now feel I was a little harsh, after seeing your proper professional review, but I still would rather have my money back. The current version you have seems a lot better and probably with a lot of practice working against the nuances and quirks of its flight control you may be able to get some great quick and easy videos and pics. Funny you noticed the pictures are quite clear and hi-res - not so affected by the wobble (probably only in bright light/sun) - as I was mostly interested in the photo abilities with the smile detection and the ability to do a quick group selfie like in the promo video. Seems you've proven that it would at least be pretty easy and very possible with some manual controls to get it in the air pretty quickly to take a shot like that. Not LIKE the promo video but still could be done. thanks for the great video. Will try to be happy with it if I don't get $ back
I'm just amazed that you not only got your first OnagoFly, but also a replacement one. I was a December backer and am still waiting for my my drone. Not impressed with this company so far.
+Chris Pautler, I'm am sure that it is very frustrating, but the longer it takes, the better the drone will be that you receive. Communication has dried up recently with OnagoFly which is a concern, I will however keep chasing them. Remember to subscribe and join our discussion group www.droningon.co/facebook
thanks for the video, it has been a waste of money. Could you guys tell me the best drone? could you guys tell.me the best drone within the 500-1000 range
+George Dotson, unfortunately OnagoFly does need some more time before its worth considering. In the meantime, head over to DroningON for some quadcopter advice! www.droningon.co/facebook, ALSO be sure to click 'SUBSCRIBE' above.
+arboristBlairGlenn I completely agree - if this were a European company, I would bet that every element raised as useful would end up in a manual. Sadly, that doesn't seem to happen elsewhere :( for example, I bet that you didn't know that the small hole to the left of the power button is a hard-reset switch (accessed via a pin through the hole!).
+DroningON.co From your knowledge of this drone, you should write up a new improved version of the manual and get paid by Onago Fly to do so. I am embarrassed for them. Just the typos are enough to make me think that they rushed this into delivery unprepared. Really no excuse. When I saw you pull off the sticker to open the cooling vents, I was really surprised that that simple, but so important small bit of information was omitted.
+arboristBlairGlenn unfortunately I don't believe that OnagoFly would suggest removing it, otherwise they wouldn't have stuck it there in the first place - the design of OnagoFly does seem to lack common sense, its really unfortunate but they should never have placed the sticker there, covering critical cooling vents. Very frustrating :(
Thanks for this very well produced tutorial. Mine is defective. I have contacted the company 4 times asking for a replacement or refund. They are ignoring me and I am quite irritated. Yours seem to have better props. Mine break with even a minimal impact. Control is non existent. I'm very sorry I believed them. False advertising! I want a refund.
+arboristBlairGlenn thanks for your comment - sadly UA-cam are still processing the high resolution version of this review, so please do watch again once it is available in HD! OnagoFly are limited on staff and resources, hence delays for responding. I would rather them concentrate on shipping/despatching than responding to emails. The props supplied with the latest version are definitely better, just have a little patience, they'll get back to you eventually and hopefully you'll end up with a better model.
+DroningON.co quick reply back, thank you. On another note, your production efforts and editing is noteworthy. Very clear close ups and well planed explanations. Your voice is very clear and on point. I wish you all the success in building this channel.
+arboristBlairGlenn thanks again for your comments, its great to get such feedback and I do sincerely hope to build on this channel with more reviews, hopefully of more successful projects ;)
I have been Dronner :) for about 14 years now, and before that and still in the rc world. I have had many drone autopiilot and they never ever produce what they promes to people. This little thing is not that bad, But I would never ever pay so much money for this. I would rather have a 180 or 250 drone with other capabilites....
the maker of this fraud copter should be sued for deceptive marketing as the video they use to sell it is a fraud video, this whole thing is bait and switch. Hopefully a law firm takes notice and decides to do a class action law suit
OK. So now I have flown it. It truly is a 50 dollar toy. They packed a whole whack of great techie stuff inside but. You get all organized to go flying and drive somewhere with sufficient space and lack of people. You play for a max of 10 minutes and you are done. Don't bother buying and carrying a few extra batteries so you can practice your flying cuz you can't change them. If you screw up the battery by over use your toy is toast. Sorry but the "great minds" that brought this to the market are geeks first and drone pilots 4th. Yes it did fly for me but only because I have at least 150 hours on the rest of my drone fleet. A sad waste of 259 bucks. I am also concerned that thousands of these built in lipo batteries are now in the hands of nubies that do not understand the potential danger of damaged lipos. The premise and promise was great but again - if its too good to be true . . . . :-(
Sure. It's pretty simple. Current, in units of amps or milliamps is a measure of how fast a device draws electricity. The capacity of the battery allows for some current over a period of time. So, for example, if we have a device that uses electricity at a current of 100 milliamps drawing on a battery with a 700 mAh, then we could expect the battery to last for an hour. Similarly, a 50 milliamp device would take two hours to drain the battery. If I remember correctly, you measured 750 mAh for the battery's capacity. If a flight lasts 8 minutes and drains the battery to 10%, then we're using 90% of that, or 675 mAh over 8 minutes, or about 84 mAh per minute. That's about 5000 mAh per hour or 5000 mAh/h (the h's cancel out) so the device must be using 5000 mA or about 5 amps when it's flying. An analogy using a car: a car has a 15 gallon gas tank and uses up gas at a rate of 30 miles per gallon. The mpg is analogous to mA, and the gallons is analogous to mAh.
@Victor Engel, but when referring to the capacity of a battery, it is always referred to as mAh, particularly when charging, so if I buy a new battery for my OnagoFly, I'd be looking for a 750mAh battery, I wouldn't ask for 750mA? I appreciate the information but believe that my reference to capacity was correct?
+Victor Engel, ahhh I see what you mean, sorry I had misunderstood. Glad that you're paying attention and thanks for pointing this out, I'll remember you next time and say mAh :) And remember to subscribe :)
Thanks for any input!
it's sad that so many people got screwed ...
i never watch review so seriously like this from start untill the end..
Thanks for your comment, and did you find it useful?
+DroningON.co absolutely yes sir.. i'll buy another nano/micro drone
Thanks for the great review :-)
Could you please tell me the exact battery output (Volt) of the Onagofly battery.
Fantastic and very thorough review!!!! A+!
Thanks +The Adventure Biker, such feedback is great! Please do SUBSCRIBE by clicking above and checkout my other videos!
+DroningON.co All reviews should be as good as this. After seeing this, I'm glad that I didn't purchase an Onagofly. I got a Parrot Bebop instead and have been very happy wit it.
I'll try my best! Subscribe and watch this space!
Thanks for the very informative review. I was very close to backing the Zano project but decided against it, so was a little apprehensive when backing the OnagoFly. Mine too has yet to arrive - though it is marked as fulfilled over at Indegogo. Keep up the good work.
Pleasure +Gary Smith, let us know how you get on and be sure to LIKE us on Facebook, and join our discussion group.
I'll try to address each point:
- We agree, the manual is useless and we mention this in Part 1 of our review, please be sure to watch that review as well as it might fill in additional blanks.
Your video review is really comprehensive and even though I don't own an onagofly, it seems like garbage. Good luck backers.
Is there a calibration video? And my unit is 9 months old, is there a iphone appp update and is there a firmware update for the drone?
I just got my Onagofly; how do you charge the unit? What do the lights on the charge unit mean?
Just had my first test flight of the drone. surprising easy to take off and maitain height. drifting lousy but that easy to fix in firmware with a gyro calibration routine on start up. only issue I am having now is with the app. couldn't get it into g mode and the app is totally different than what you show. have two joy sticks and no sliders makes it much more difficult for me as a beginner to control. running on a android. any ideas
+CyberMerln, yes they have since updated the app and so there are some differences but have a good read of the manual and you should be ok!
How do you change the propellers?
Do they really deliver? I am waiting and waiting... Lost trust, I want mine NOW!
Once your smart-device is connected to the OnagoFly, try sitting the two devices outside and leave them for 5 minutes, see if the 'GPS' text within the app goes red?
p.s. All of my reviews are shot with a Nikon S5300, you'll be pleased to hear ;)
Yeah just received mine and the GPS is not connecting. I've contacted them by email three times and no response at all. Yeah would like to return also but I can't seem to find anything on their website as to how this can be done.
Fly it in tilt-mode for a few minutes, see if you get a GPS lock during that time.
VIEWERS, if you find this video useful then PLEASE subscribe, it only takes two clicks and supports my channel which enthuses me to do more reviews! So go on, it only takes a few seconds!

DroningON.co o
My idea would hold the battery away from the drone, so isolating the heat from the components.
No, the company has given up on their drone, don't buy one!!
@@Droning-ONok thanks!
Has Anyone replaced the propeller ? Very hard to get it in the final position !! Any tip?
You really need a prop removal tool, these are cheap and available on Amazon.
+DroningON.co even for these Onagofly drones?
First time flying, first crash from about 4feet and one of the props failing to turn on restart, £200 down the pan or an easy fix, anyone know?
Flew once. Second time is went haywire and crashed cracking the body. GPS connects but the unit does not power the propellers and on auto takeoff i get the message that the GPS is not stable.
Sucks!
+Balvinder Bhandari, it is indeed an unpredictable little thing, I do hope that firmware/app updates will improve this, but we are yet to see that.
Great comprehensive and intelligent review, thanks so much. Seems Onagofly should be paying you consulting fees for development.

Thank you for your good and professional comments. I just received my package and try it asap. Your video was so helpful. Now I think that this product is better than lily.camera at least we have in our hand :) It is better for nothing. Please also inform us about fireware updates too.

Micro drone 3.0 or this
They're very different, one has autonomy (partially working), whilst the other doesn't have autonomous flight or GPS.
I ordered mine forever ago and you have your second one. My blood is boiling.
The manual is very poor. Much of what you are telling us is not in the manual. Nothing about sd card needing to be in.

Check out the new Teal drone. it's the GREATEST! !!!
WiFi and drones? not for me!
The premise and promise was great but again - if its too good to be true . . . . :-(
You are confusing mA with mAh.
+Victor Engel, quite possibly - could you explain, I'll be honest that electronics isn't my strong point :)
Yes, mAh would be correct. However, you say milliamps several times, which is incorrect, for example at 1:20 in this video.
+Victor Engel, ahhh I see what you mean, sorry I had misunderstood. Glad that you're paying attention and thanks for pointing this out, I'll remember you next time and say mAh :) And remember to subscribe :)
