That hair pin turn is called the carrier break. The pilot flies to the right of the carrier/runway until it passes the end of the runway/bow of the boat, at which point the pilot pulls a hard 180deg left turn, drops the landing gear, open's the speed brakes until the plane is down to landing speed, closes speed brakes and when they pass the rear of the boat makes another 180 into the landing
