The Enforcer's Guide to Fighting the Protagonist: 1. Wait at the end of an area to make your dramatic reveal 2. Monologue to the protagonists about how much stronger you are compared to them 3. Allow time for protagonists to return monologue about how you won't stand in their way 4. Snap your fingers to summon 2+ archaisms, not that you need them of course 5. Start the fight 6. Lose 7. Stand back up in a cutscene because you didn't _really_ lose 8. Repeat step 2 to a tired group of protagonists 9. Get stopped from delivering the final blow from 10. Lmao. It was tolerable when they kept repeating it in Sky SC, a bit less so when they repeated it for the next seven games in the series. I've given up hope of ever being able to take these games completely seriously anymore, still love them though.
TBF, they did a farily good job of making the Arianrhod fight and to a lesser the McBurn legitimately feel like you are out of your depth. Though that could just be because I play on hard. Also, fuck the second phase of True Zoro-Agruga.

I’m not gonna lie Altinas “instructor... instructor please.... my gumball” was the cutest and at the same time saddest thing I ever heard ever. I really felt sorry for her.
To be fair it just plays very well off Rein having a mental breakdown from her unintentionally triggering his PTSD flashbacks... Like you know he will of course gladly buy her even 10 gumballs on any other day... But he is damaged goods by this point who sometimes just does NOT function or react to common stuff like you would've expected which is as hilarious as it is sad.
Tho I'm semi blind now on the series as I'm on the first hour of the second game 😅 , I'm assuming this is basically what altinas is like in 3? If so that's adorable lol
@@thejonbrownshow8470 Altina is basically like an empty shell that slowly becomes a cute adorable, expressive girl you must protect at all costs...whereas Millium is pretty much the same outside of who she's attached to each game.
@@WiseIdiot9 you'll understand more nuance about the first three if you play them, but you can still jump in CS4 if you just want a summary of the first three.
The fact that both the Princess and one of your students encourage them to fall for each other while the rest of the entire cast knows what is going on and just doesn't care, makes me worried about the decadent state in which Erebonia is heading.
It's not "bad" (I would argue that no one can tell you who to love. I hate how much control we still try to put on individual choices, emotions, relationships, and well everything), but scientifically if you are in the relationship and have... sex with the intent to make children then that's going to suck for the kids that are born (but I mean birth kinda sucks in general; you have no choice in being born and are forced to live in a pretty messed up world; like if you asked me to choose between never existing and living on this shitty earth with so many problems and horrible people, I'd have picked the former (though I guess I couldn't AND not exist; I'm getting off topic)). Ultimately we're just trying to 1) control morals and behavior through social control because we think it's gross (and somehow even if we're not involved or even know the people engaging in it, it just completely destroys our entire worlds) and 2) prevent inbreeding (because if done on a wide or large scale it does decrease our gene pool and makes us more susceptible to other health problems). The former is just humans being the worst and the latter is a legitimately good reason. That said we do forcibly Inbreed and selectively breed other animals for our entertainment, enjoyment, experiments, and gambling problems. Dog breeds are LITERALLY just inbred dogs (which is dog frequently and is getting REALLY REALLY BAD). So I just completely have no remorse on that reason. I'd say if we're gonna do it to that extent and that frequently and FORCIBLY on other species; we lose the right to complain when consenting adults do it in our own. My stance is that if it's consenting adults I don't give a shit what they get up to and I don't understand why anyone else does. Generally speaking it's not going to worsen any of our lives and it only can if overnight every single brother and sister wanted to have kids together. I see it the same as polygamy or homosexual relationships. It's two consenting intelligent communicating adults; who are we to tell them: "no you can't love X because ew" and then move on and never check up on that person again. You largely can't even decide who you love. That's just not how emotions work.

@@zckaiser Lol wut there were like 3: McBurn who didn't even hide the fact that he was Ouroboros, Sharon who might as well have not even been considered part of Ouroboros when you meet her, and Vita who was so alluring and mysterious that you weren't even surprised that she was Ouroboros. Every other member was already an established character who are all in Erebonia because their entire plan is currently happening there lol In Sky you meet almost 10 members: Blueblanc, Loewe, Weissman, Joshua, Renne, Walter, Luciola, Campanella, and I guess by extension Gilbert. Crossbell's not much better by revealing 3 Anguis, the Stahlritter, Shirley and Red Constellation, and the Doll Studio as one of Ouroboros's factories. The only other "Thirteen Factory" we've seen is the Gnomes who split from Ouroboros for Osbourne until Ouroboros started helping again in CS3...
@@SpanishFly120 I think Machias only rates a little bit higher than Jusis or Gaius... and maybe Ash too, such a late character and he is missing from your party near the end of 3 as well. But on that note, Gaius is pretty weak for pretty much all of 3 that you get to play with him, and those chapters already have tons of great guest characters.
@@michaelmiller7465 Part of Gaius being weak in 3 is that you don't get access to his busted S-Craft until really late in the game. Then it gets buffed in 4, lol.
One of my favorite quirks of the series is how utterly clunky and expositional the villain dilogue is. when two villains meet they inevitably have an exchange to the effect of: "Is that not so, [name]? Or should I say, [nickname], weilder of the [weapon]" "*devious snicker* well met yourself. It's an honor to speak to [name], the [nickname]" And I'm, like... you guys are co-workers in the same government office. You see each other every day. Doesn't this get old? Trails games feature writing that is simultaneously some of the best and most silly I've ever seen.
I like how both the “So This is Basically” videos Jello has released this year are sponsored by the game he’s covering, because of two reasons: 1. MORE MONEY FOR EPITHET ERASED! JELLO CAN GET OUT OF DEBT! SEASON 2! 2. It’s just really funny how these companies pay him to just absolutely talk relentless shit about their games, like he does not hold back, he just relentlessly insults them, and these sponsors are just cool with it. That’s just really funny to me.
Ikr! You'd expect these kinds of sponsor videos to be a bit more sanded down but they don't give a fuck! He's only genuinely complimented a series during the actual bit once on STIB and that was 4 years ago
The fact that they got the actual voice actors makes this video even better. And I almost died laughing when Jello said: "LOOK HOW STRONG THEIR CARD MUSCLES ARE! THEIR MUSCLES ARE *SNAKES*! EVERYONE IN THE WORLD IS A SECRET SNAKE CULTIST!!!" He sounded like he was either going to lose his mind or was trying desperately not to laugh when delivering those lines.
I mean Atleast he's in a game that doesn't drag out the plot for 3 extra seasons that have nothing to do with the story besides character development Oh wait *THAT'S EVERY FUCKING GAME AND TV SHOW EVER*
Twist ending: The leader of Ouroboros is an actual snake, wearing a human suit. The society's evil plan is to use a series of super powerful relics to turn the entire content into a spaceship so she can go to the moon, which is made of cheese and therefore covered in mice. The final artifact is a stone fish, and only Rean, with his random fishing powers, can catch it before they can. The entire last dungeon of the Trails series is one long fishing mini-game. Also Alisha dies, but comes back 15 minutes later wearing a mask as if everyone doesn't know who she is. The game ends with Rean living the rest of his life single.
Twist Ending: "Cold Steel" is actually a meta commentary that refers to how coldly you'll have to steel yourself waiting for the next JelloApocalypse video.
@@boltinabottle6307 You know what? I felt the Weissman reveal was handled much, much better than the Crow reveal. I had my suspicions about Professor Alba from the start: how Joshua is always uncomfortable around him, how you find him hiding behind that pillar one time, and how you hear him in conversation with someone else when you enter Amberl tower the first time. There were hints in Sky FC that he was not what he seemed, not that he was evil (until the end) but at least that he was a lot more than what he seemed. Crow caught me completely be surprise.
Me after watching this: “This series makes no sense, I love it I’ll give it a try.” Me returning after playing the first 2 games: “This makes too much sense, I don’t know if I should cry or laugh.”
b4 you drop into 3 rd cold steel i would advice going back and play through sky and Crosbell. or further events will make no sense (Like Divertisment part of CS2 lol )
It's funny that's the bit that made me realize "Oh right, I forgot Laura and Fie spend the first third/half of CS1 not liking each other at all", considering how close they are from CS2 onward, and how good of a battle duo they are for Linking, lol.
My ridiculous twist ending for a Trails game that does not yet exist is this: At the end of the game, you find out it was actually the ending of the Trails franchise as a whole, there will not be another 10 games, someone important to the plot actually dies, Rean doesn't give a speech about friendship, and after the end credits there's an ad revealing that the Crossbell arc will eventually be officially localized. Not a single fan would ever see it coming.
Twist ending: It turns out that every government official is actually a giant bee disguised as a human, and they've been pulling the plot strings in a highly convoluted way this entire time for the sole purpose of producing more honey, somehow;
So how important will Armorica village be to it? Is it the headquarters of the conspiracy group? a rival organization as another honey producing city? or something else?
Cause first 2 games were localized by another company (XSEED), And NISA who did 3 and 4 not gonna pay for promotion of games they have no way of profiting from.
Its funnier when you know that the companies who own the rights to the first two games and the later 3 are completely separate. This was a tactical dunk
Twist ending: the game’s actual name is Trains and everyone is a train. The whole cast of characters does the classic cartoon unzip to reveal just what kind of steam locomotives they are and will constantly re-remind you even if you haven’t forgotten.
Twist Ending: The actual Trails of Cold Series ended after 2, and 3 - 4 is just Rean trying a pyramid scheme by making/releasing 3 and 4 to pay off his obscenely large student loans after realizing that being a teacher doesn't pay enough.
As I'm on the next to last chapter on my now semi blind playthrough of CS 1, I'm surprised with all the talk of politics and stuff, they never mentioned the tuition costs of being at thor's lol (like no one in class vll is broke all like that, but still)
People have to understand, porting Trails in the Sky already almost caused an entire suicide incident for the localization team, and the games just kept getting LONGER AND LONGER WITH MORE TEXT. The entire franchise is like rereading The Lord of the Rings thrice over, three times.
Twist: Everyone is bloodied, but won the final battle. Elliot and Gaius died, but no one cries because they forgot who they are just like I did when CS3 came out. Kevin is also there, but the everyone forgot him just like the devs. There's a clapping and suddenly Cassius walks out from the shadows. "Good job, this was all according to plan as surely established in Sky FC" Anton's body is found in the monster. It turns out his thirstiness to get a girl resulted in him monsterising and inheriting the Sept-Terrion of desperation. "Poor sap" Then Estelle wakes up in bed because it turns out the sleepy pills in FC were a bit stronger than expected.
Rean, stop digging for hidden layers and just be impressed. I'm a bird. I-I'm just trying to figure out why they would do this. Why anyone would do this.

Twist ending: Dorothee, the girl from the Literature Club, was actually the Grandmaster of Ouroboros all along, and reveals that the reason absolutely nothing happened in Cold Steel 1 and 2 was to put the focus of the fans (Ouroboros is aware of them, as they exist in a parallel universe, because by this point parallel universes have already been a thing in Trails for at least 6 games) towards shipping the characters with each other. Fandoms being fandoms, the vast majority of the shippings are non-heterosexual, and as Dorothee's power thrives on gay shipping, it has increased exponentially due to Cold Steel 1 and 2. As such, she is now able to alter reality so that all of the gay shippings are now canon: Jusis and Machias kiss, Olivert gets with Bleublanc, Angelica gets literally every girl in Cold Steel and Crow gets revived (he's died again in Trails of Cold Steel XXIV) so that he can be together with Rean. The only pairing that is able to resist the gay shipping is Estelle and Joshua, as the fandom unequivocally agrees that they are the One True Pairing. Grandmaster Dorothee curses them, and the final final FINAL Trails game is about Estelle and Joshua finding a way to defeat Dorothee and convincing every other character to stop making out for a moment so they can help, ultimately cementing Estelle as the best JRPG protagonist known to man.

It turns out he used something stupid probably to overthrow someone in power? Then he dies but he’s actually just lying on the floor maybe kind of dead(no). - two characters see each other in combat for the first time, one identified the other’s weapon and says it’s neat, the other deflects saying other person’s weapon is also neat. -a female character grossly and enthusiastically sexually assaults another female character, but no... they’re both girls, so that means it’s funny, actually. -No matter what you do or how you do it, it turns out that everything is going just according to keikaku for the conspiracy, to the extent things might have been better if you’d just stayed home.
Plot Twist: The Empire of Wilbonia is not actually an empire, but in fact, an elaborate pyramid scheme, creating pretend schools and pretend wars in order to scam a bunch of teenagers into killing their leaders personal enemies, afterwords the stepsister dies do to a golden spear created of the power of rumors, causing the "empires" leader to reset the universe to one where she's the protagonist. The ramifications of the previous twist are ignored because in his next appearance he's dying. He'll also trap the original MC in hell for no reason.
Well, the TL;DR is that there is a series called "The Legend of Heroes" and Trails in the Sky and Trails of Cold Steel are 2 sub-series in each, they are both amazing, Sky comes first and is split into 3 games (each well over 100 hours), Cold Steel comes second and is on its fourth game - You don't need to have played Sky to understand Cold Steel, but Sky sets-up the events of Cold Steel.

Twist: turns out all those gumballs you were feeding everyone were actually slowly turning everyone into birds. You realize too late and you eventually have to deal with everyone birdifying (for “some reason” guys go straight into birds and girls turn into harpies first). The game ends after you finally defeat the last bird and you look down and realize you were already a bird the whole time and it was all for naught. Plot twist at the end of the game the “big bad” reveals YOU are actually the villain because romancing your sister is bad actually
"Step Sister"
"sad Alabama noises"
Pretty sure Princess Alfin is Evil. I bet this damn war was her idea. Oh shit, plot twist.

"Your secret society isn't very secret if every person we meet is in it" pretty accurately sums up one my main complaints about Orobouros in this series compared to Trails in the Sky
Every other member was already an established character who are all in Erebonia because their entire plan is currently happening there lol
In Sky you meet almost 10 members: Blueblanc, Loewe, Weissman, Joshua, Renne, Walter, Luciola, Campanella, and I guess by extension Gilbert.
Machias doesn't get very many lines through the series for me. Of course...I never bring him with me or use him unless I have to, but hey, lol.

-Two characters pass cringey nicknames back and forth
The characters eat food and then talk about how good it was (roughly 20% of the dialogue in Trails 1 chapter 3)

For someone like me who was just planning to get into the "Trails of" series, this makes me even more confused than I originally was.
why do i see you everywhere?
Well, the TL;DR is that there is a series called "The Legend of Heroes" and Trails in the Sky and Trails of Cold Steel are 2 sub-series in each, they are both amazing, Sky comes first and is split into 3 games (each well over 100 hours), Cold Steel comes second
and is on its fourth game - You don't need to have played Sky to understand Cold Steel, but Sky sets-up the events of Cold Steel.
@@Acier25997 Ummm do not forget about the Crossbell arc too which comes in between Sky and Cold steel. which not only does it includes characters from sky but it also heavily helps to setup stuff for cold steel while also being the best arc and games in the franchise.
Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure do not have official english translations but they do have fan translations with both being legally available to buy and with easy ways to patch it with english
Trails to Azure is genuinely the best game in the Trails series and it is sad that people skip it or only play Cold steel.
Just play Trails of the sky 1-3, then Zero no Esieki 1-2 then Trails of cold steel 1-3. It'll all make sense. And spend 600-500 hours doing so. Sky is around 50h * 3, trails is 100h * 3 minus some and zero no eskei and the other one is 50-100 I think.
@@Acier25997 you forget zero no kiseki and ao no kiseki

@@chrom4141 Especially since I honestly never see any sort of interest from Agate. Like having the high school girls crushing on the badass hero dudes who saved their lives is totally reasonable. It being reciprocated - and *encouraged* by literally every other character - is weird as hell. I honestly really liked the "people from broken or dysfunctional families developing a wholesome sibling dynamic"-style relationships of Agate and Tita as well as Jusis and Millium. And then they start hinting at actual romance between them and it just gets gross. Or literally every character ever going "ooooooh are you gonna kiiiiiss?" because that isn't either juvenile or creepy pedo-enabling. Not to mention harassment of the people who have made it very clear it makes them uncomfortable, but if I've learned one thing from this series it's that sexual harassment is apparently funny.
This sort of bullshit (Rean all but buying Elise an orbal washer she might accidentally get stuck in, the harem bullshit, etc) would likely have had me drop the series if I wasn't so goddamn invested after seven or so games. By Cold Steel 3 and 4 some of the pairings the actual game pushes or at least hints at with zero subtlety are just *nasty.* One can make a beautiful rainbow of all kinds of cultures, sexual and romantic orientations without giving the stage over to pedophilia.
I have some hopes for Kuro, thinking that once the series leaves high school drama behind we can maybe get something that I as a grown-ass man can play without feeling like I'm gonna end up on some sort of watchlist, but maybe it's just time for me to accept that these aren't the days of Chrono Trigger or FF6 anymore. :(
