    Just an amazing concept and extremely simple!

    This looks way better than all the sliding box ideas I’ve seen in the past! I’m just going to drill a hole in one of my many vacuum attachments and try this out.

    I believe this is the most efficient yet simplest dust collector out there - and I've seen a lot. Surely dust has nowhere to go, yet without the bulky and boxy complications the other concepts have. If any, the only improvement that I could think of is widening its base so you can clamp it with the work piece in scenarios where you have to use clamps, that's just a sudden thought and not sure of any complications it may cause. Thanks for sharing this idea and the 3D print file as well.

      Thanks !
      I designed a new version with a base that extends on all sides so you have somewhere to clamp or somewhere to put your hands. With the base it now sits flatter and is a bit more stable hands free.
      I think it is shared. If not I will add it today. Enjoy!

      @@MSRWorkshop I noticed that, when using the F-bit, a large shaving or two would get lodged in the shallow and (relatively) narrow 'front' of the device and, in addition to thinking a 'lip' would serve to improve suction stability (clamping, too), I thought to enlarge the diameter at the base (10%+/-) and raise the 'top' so an eight or 3/16" of an inch.
      Also thought that, since the bit is always moving in a clock-wise direction, angling the input and reducing its effective area (opening) would increase the vortex effect as well as the draft.

    Many thanks, bought the plans. But I'll fangle a more user-friendly, springy hose attachment that means I don't have to hold it down.
    Thanks again 👍🏼

    Great idea I just did 40 1 1/8" holes and had chips all over thanks working on it now!

    I would try this before I would do anything else. Honestly, I'm thinking of milling a 4x4 post to do this with a super flexible hose. The weigh for the wood will keep it where you put it. Also I'm thinking about a strong magnet underneath or in the fence and possibly making the drilling hole adjustable like an Iris. I also think I might put some LED strips in it to light the process. Spectacular idea you have MSR Workshop!

      My updated version of sell on Etsy is much better because it has a platform on either side making it possible to clamp to your work. I thought about adding magnets underneath most of the stuff that I drill is too thick for the magnets to work very well.

    Great idea. I just made something else, but may just try this. Trying to think on how to have it rest or lock in position worth out having to hold it. Also been wondering about using brushes for surround like CNC.

    • @MSRWorkshop

      So if you click on my link under the description, you’ll see the new and improved version where I’ve added a base to it so it can be clamped down.
      I think, adding the CNC bristles actually disrupts airflow, and it might not work as well

      @@MSRWorkshopoh, ok, so a lip to clamp down. I really need slots to allow for clamps, long overdue. I just saw nice trick with strapping stiff wire to the hose to allow it articulate and lock in place. May try something like that.

    Would it help to add a couple holes in the outer band of the device to cause additional air flow for the remaining chips? GREAT device! Best I’ve seen.

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  2 роки тому

      Thanks. No. I think the hole on top is large enough and doesn’t restrict the airflow. It seems to get everything.

      Keep in mind that 3d printing is fabulous for prototyping/proof of concept and design sort of thing and terrible at production. It takes HOURS to print something this size and a printer with a bed area in excess of three times the longest dimension of the finished object - and an ability to get high enough to finish the top.
      In theory, it can be done remotely, but running such a device absent a minder might invalidate the Fire Insurance Policy.

    Lovely! Elegant in design.
    Would it be possible to print a second 'color' for a portion of the tool? I was thinking of a more flexible 'color' (material) that would allow fingers to cover the opening after the bit went through. Did you see one of these used for drywall? would like a link to it! Please, thanks.

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  2 роки тому

      There is a link in my description to where you can purchase these. My 3D printer can only do one color at a time. The standard color is black then I periodically do a limited edition color with a premium material.
      I have seen many of the ones used for dry wall and this is a version of those but unfortunately the finger idea would only work with standard drill bits not Forstner. A Forstner bit would tear up the fingers. Still , without the edition of the finders drilling is virtually dust free.

      I know the guy that I sold the delta to so I’ll see if I can post a quick video how i installed it next time I go over to his house!
