My Grandad work at Collaro in Barking in the 1950's - 1960's I think the factory was somewhere on the A13. I remember him telling us about the time Magnavox took over and how they introduced time and motion to increase production. He hated Magnovox. By the way I have a 16rpm compilation record made in about 1964 with the hits of the day, loads of tracks on it. I think 16rpm were used for stories and the ones produced for music were for back ground music in shops etc. Thou they are rare.

Wow, that is so cool. Collaro decks were far superior to the BSR decks at the time. My father had a Collaro Studio in his Murphy radiogram, wish I had kept it when we moved out the house years ago as the the radiogram was in perfect working condition. I have managed to find the same Radiogram with a lot of searching but has the Garrard turntable as there was an option from Murphy to either have the Garrard or Collaro deck. I will get the radiogram working and exchange the deck with the Collaro one. The radiogram needs recapping as the volume reduces and fades to nothing when it is turned up. Also the Collaro speed change mechanism is of the "turret" type speed change and the speed mechanism should click in to position but just spins around. The model of the deck is the "Spartan" quite a rare deck. I just wish I had the service manual for it. Here is the model I am talking about but mine is the normal colour not white: ua-cam.com/video/gZQ-v3TStqw/v-deo.html ps. I only live down the road from the A13, I live in Hackney.

@@harveysvintageaudio It's good to see restoration of these and I am enjoying your videos. It's great to get them up and running again and I agree with your comment on us manufacturing these audio products, great shame it all went.

@@parlourtunes4155 Yep the UK used to be the top manufacturing industry of the world producing high quality products, what a shame that has all passed in to the history books. My favourite English tape recorders are Ferrograph, Vortexion, Brenell and of course Collaro, they also produced high quality tape deck units. Is your grandfather still with us at all ? would be lovely having a chat with him. Thanks for watching my videos, much appreciated, loads more to come.

@@harveysvintageaudio Unfortunately my grandfather passed away a few years ago now. Although I remember the hatred he had for Magnavox and how he said they destroyed the happy atmosphere in the factory. I think it was the time and motion and the pressure on production that he disliked. I have a Sony TC 366 still working well. Enjoy the restoration of this gear keep up the good work! Great stuff!

@@parlourtunes4155 Hi again, I'm so sorry to hear that I would have loved to have spoken to him about the Collaro works. Magnavox the US company, yuck ! I don't even like what they did to the turntables. I have a Sony TC-377 still going strong.
