Hi All, This channel is dedicated to all types of vintage audio.
If you have any old vintage audio that you no longer require I would gratefully accept it and would feature on my channel, I would pay all postage costs naturally. Plus a big thank you to all new subscribers to my channel. Also if you would like to donate to my Vintage Audio Channel fund so I can buy spare parts to finish all my projects I would be most grateful, email: harveysvintageaudio@gmail.com
Thank you. x
Please Note: All my singing is now on the channel link below. Please subscribe, thank you.

Hi, Harvey.. Since, you haven't performed any of action by (4,75) "Slow Speed" and the "Recording Activity" within both of your videos, i wonder if those features are out of use?!.. Thnks..
Hey Harvey What do you reckon about converting my 4 track to a 2 track… worth it?
So you did not manage to repair?
🤩🤩🤩
Do you have spacers behind the spindles.
Is there mercury inside this type of device?
Transformer have got a hit aswell (from the heatsink side) Also resolder psu behind volumepot. Very crusty (board is burnt badly) aka typical NAD and while you're at it replace the 150K resistors on each poweramp channel (nearer heatsinks) Known issue. Also relay usually goes bad.
Thanks for the info.
Revox have issued a brand new Revox B77 tape machine, called the B77 MkIII, costing a cool £15,000, go on, Harvey, treat yourself to one for Christmas, or ask your mum to buy you one tee-hee. You can now also buy, direct from Revox, a fully overhauled B77 Mki or MkII for around £8,000.
No thanks Theo, lol.
Lovely gear Harvey
Thanks Ridley.
Hello! I understand you know these reelers. I am restoring a TK125. Electronics seems fine but I am waiting for the belts from eBay (the ones fitted are a bit loose to me, and the one for counter was broken so I thought it was a good idea to renovate the entire set of 3, just to be future proof. Initially I have loosen the 4 damned laquered screws which later I discovered that must not be touched! Took a night to put every part of the mechanism in its place. Only a question: it is normal that with selector in STOP the capstan and receiving reel are rotating? (well it would rotate but brake prevents it). Doesn't it wear the belts?
I have a Brenell Mark 5 S2 that used to belong to the late Peter Sensier - Pepe from Dorita and Pepe in need of restoration or as a source of parts.Any one interested?
That's cool, always nice when a machine was owned by a famous person.
Hello Harvey, 1st time viewer here from canada, nice R2R there. I just finished restoring a big and beautiful Grundig 4055 WF/3D vacuum tube radio, it came with a 1955 TK-5 very similar to your TK-8 apart from not having a speed adjuster. I was wondering if you did more work on the TK-8 and have more footage of it. I know my way around vintage radios but I know very little about tape recorders. I want to restore it to get the kit I got all back together as originally purchased, but the recorder was filled with rodents' droppings and the only belt i can see aside from the counter's belt seems to be the main one. I wonder how many belts are part of these assembly as i fear the other ones might have been eaten away. Is it ok if I e-mail you with my questions ? Perhaps a few photos would help me get going on this project. Thank you in advance. Great channel by the way, keep it up :-)
Check switches first, I have later ones myself the 6 series Armstrong ending in 1981 they started in the 1930's
Hi Harvey, nice to see you..thanks for sharing your newest additions with your projects, looks like you're going to have a busy time..keep us posted on how it's going when you can..the fixing with the off white "putty" should look great..wishing you all the best and if i manage to get out today I'll be buying a Lottery ticket..one day 'eh Harvey?? Until then just keep going and do what you do, one day at a time x 😊 Take care
Hi Julie, Yep, lot's to get on with. I truly hope you win the Lottery Julie, thanks for the coffee's by the way, very kind of you. My coffee's are cheaper than Andy's, lol. xx
Nice one, Harvey...
Thanks Theo.
Hi Harvey, Nice gear. I would like to see the putty results.I'm in the process of making a dim bulb tester as well 😊😊
Will do Mike, going away for a little while but it's the first job on the list. Dim bulb testers are so handy, really saves you blowing fuses.
First
Just subbed to you Bloodnose, thought I already did, lol.
Great haul Harvey, you're sure gonna be busy..
I certainly will be Ray, lot's of winter projects, lol.
Hi Harvey ❤xoxo
Hi Charla, hope you are well hun. xoxo
I know exactly how you feel about replacing the screws
Just purchased some belts for a tk144
I have a stack of new tapes for this exact model, still in their interior plastic, unopened. We are wondering what to do with the set. Can't throw it away.
I would love to have them.
@ Ok, how do I get them to you?
@ can you send me an email on my about page ? Thanks.
email: harveysvintageaudio@gmail.com
hi, you can send me an email at: harveysvintageaudio@gmail.com
Yup. Its ALWAYS the take up spool. The least complicated job to do but is why they eat tapes. BAD DESIGN. Plastic is brittle and ages. However the next problem a metal wheel meshing with a plastic wheel. The metal will destroy the plastic teeth. Its lucky you got a replacement cog. A miracle maybe.
Might be a year late but stick a tape in it and just see if it plays. It will run as your lever is stuck in the play position. If both channels are good then the machine is worth persevering with. I had thr same problem but exactly thr reverse. My control stick function in ff, rew, free position but got stuck exactly same point where yours get stuck so there is something which is blocking the movement of both. With yours you can't rewind, fast forward or have it in free. But it will play tapes. With mine it rewinds, fast forwards but it cant play!!! Very frustrating.😊
Glad you're back in action, Brother Harvey!
Play the machine through an amplifier so that we can hear how it sounds, Harvey', the machine should sound great.
I will do Theo.
Schools used to use these a lot. Excellent machines and guess where I got mime from as a non worker? The Language Sept did not know what an easy fix it was.....
Hi Steve, yep, that's where I saw and used my first Tandberg, at college.
Wow what a machine
I keep positioning the iPhones camera in the wrong position and I really don't know why, it's all there on the screen but when I playback it's not, lol.
Cool Machine
Thanks Benji.
Beautiful
Well done Harvey
I've really been enjoying your restoration journey! I was recently gifted a Revox A77 with the same aluminium faceplate and metal tape head cover - is it an aftermarket upgrade? Or indeed, a special edition?. I have had to iron out new issues and enjoy learning from your video journals.
Do you know where you got the roller Thanks
You popped a nail in the switch roller good idea
This was one of the earlier models, it dates back to 1998. The later models from about 2000 onwards have drive belts to control the load and eject mechanisms.
Nice work Harvey, looks delicious. They can be so delicate and so easy to snap something. Usually right at thd end. I do like the tap test, very smart 😊
Thanks Mike. I don't seem to get any notifications when people make comments on my vids...apologies.
No problem 😊
Got this one, lol.

Im surprised to see the two audio ics only ones ive worked on have the stks
Hiya Harvey, hope you're ok. Watched a few minutes of Vintage Electronics Despair earlier. I read that you're waiting for a NAD power amp.. I had one in the 80's with the matching preamp too.. I saw you got told off by geeks in the chat !.. You should block yourself ASAP lol..
Hi Ray, don't seem to get any notifications when people make comments on my vids...apologies.
@@harveysvintageaudio Hiya Harvey, that's ok mate. I thought you had received a smashed up NAD package and wasn't in the mood to talk about it lol. Hope you're ok btw..
No it's all cool, i'll try and get around and show you all the NAD 216 THX Power amp I bought, it's been feeling so tired after having Covid. It arrived extremely well packed as you probably know it's a very heavy amp.
Great shop I could not leave good vintage stuff.
I'm a bit late to the party, but i just bought a near mint one of these off the bay for 85 quid and the vu meter light works one day and the next day its dead.
This seems to be a Philips chassis, looks like the EL 3516 !
Be careful with the little case screws on these players, you must only use the correct length of screws, if you lose one, or if there's any missing, you mustn't use a longer one in the position nearest to the preamplifier circuit board as a longer screw would break the circuit board and possibly write it off, so be warned, just in case anyone's watching this who doesn't know or hasn't noticed etc.
The solenoid on these players can get sticky inside which can cause the player to fail to change program as it then doesn't manage to rotate the stepper cam properly so it stays on the same program and plays it again, so it needs it's plunger cleaning as well as the inside of the solenoid itself.
Good effort Harvey, to get it fixed sooner you should have beaten the tone arm with a pair of rusty old pliers like Andy did to the SP25 he's just scratched up lol..
I saw that, lol.
Collaro decks - don’t go in without a manual ! They aren’t that bad but they are not the same as BSR or Garrard. They were sold to Magnavox in the end and the Americans used them ….
Yep, Steve, Magnavox took over. I learnt a lot yesterday, lol.
Don't forget to check out my version of "Devil In Diguise" Elvis cover, missed a chorus, oh well, lol. ua-cam.com/video/0TfbVuByl-g/v-deo.html
Nice Harvey..7-8 hours of perseverance and hard work has definitely paid off..looks good and you got it working. 👍
Thanks Julie, wish I had done a before video now, lol. x
Hiya Jules Hunnni..
@user-cz9hh6nm9b Hello Ray, hope all going well with you.
@@raycooper-i3mHello Ray, hope all going well with you.
Hello @Ray..hope all going well with you, hopefully this will be on comments...have tried twice now lol..I don't like technology 😅
I think it was 1958.
It is Kiwi, and works great again after 7-8 hrs of work.
Nice and clean looking, Harvey, the tap yest also tells the unit if you're playing a 45 single or an LP.
It was a real pain in the arse Theo, all done now. Just needs a little clean on the paintwork, but not much.
