    The dogs are great! I love when one comes for a cuddle and scratch the others line up for their turn as well. A house just isn’t a home without a dog.

    I absolutely LOVE how you became the "wet saw", standing on the tile and squirting water on the tiles while he cut them! Brilliant! It looks AMAZING!!!! The layout/cuts look GREAT!!! I would have loved to seen her reaction when she got home.

Know one will know how much you put into your new home but you two will and never underestimate yourself because you are damn good at what you have done so far! Good luck and hope to see much more in the future! Take care 😉

    I think the tile work looks great. The colors are really nice, and with the wood stove on the hearth and the trim work, it'll look amazing.

  • @AlaskanFreedom

    Looks good. Yes, you should have used more thinset and even put some on the back of the tiles first. But since this isn't an area you'll be walking on you should be okay. Just keep that in mind for floor tiles next time. I think you could also leave that crack where the rock meets. It shouldn't be that noticeable once the stove is in place. But grout or even a high heat grout-caulk would fill it in easy enough. Stay with your plan, your budget, and do what you want. Those telling you what you should be doing can earn that right by first sending a donation large enough to fund the project they want to see done.

    Yes, a course notched trowel would have been better, but you gotta work with what you have, and we understand that! Also, back buttering the floor tile too, but it should hold. All in all, a nice job for your first time!😊

    Great day to work inside for sure The tile looks lovely as does the wall good work Craig love it!, Going to give the area such a warm cozy feeling once the trim is around and the wood stove is placed , Not a thing wrong with how it looks , Your too hard on yourself . In Nature each stone , each rock face has a mix of shades and color , the wall and floor title looks perfect .

  • @davidbickford2539

    For the wall tile corner, you might want to find a similar colored caulk to fill the corner gap. Much cleaner than trying to grout it.

    Not a pro, but wondering if wall stone is too porous to grout? That is, will you be able to wash off the excess as you can with the smooth floor tile? Perhaps test the grout process on some small wall stone scraps to make sure it works. If not, you can go with the colored caulk as suggested by another. Loved the video and hearth looks super.

    • @ouralaskahomestead
      @ouralaskahomestead  5 місяців тому

      This type doesn’t require grout, making it much easier.

    • @sallyberry4456
      @sallyberry4456 5 місяців тому +1

      I meant the corner you mentioned you would grout…

    • @ouralaskahomestead
      @ouralaskahomestead  5 місяців тому

      @@sallyberry4456 oh, I see yes. We’ll do some trials before we put it on the wall. If it is too porous to clean we probably will just use the caulk.

    My husband always said 'he didn't know how he got home from work on his own'. If he got talking with the workers going to lunch - he would stop at the green light & go when the light turned red. My husband worked for this company for years in this city - he would catch himself going the wrong directions on a one way. I agreed with him - I didn't know how he got home. Your wife was pointing out the right way the spacer went...I tiled the kitchen walls & the bathroom floor - 1st time tiler...I found it so easy except for the cuts - that is what my husband did - I also laid the wood flooring the 1st time ever - sometimes if you over think it .... I lack confidence on a lot of things...you both working as a team are doing a great job

    You don't need a deeper towel. It needs to be held straight up. Just put it on thick then pull your grooved trowel holding it straight up. That'll give you deep grooves. Not criticism just a tip. I had to be told also.

  • @jeffgallant9703
    @jeffgallant9703 5 місяців тому +2

    Just wondering..every tile job I ever did..I would use a notched trowel and make lines in the thin set before installing..is that a different kind of thin set that doesn't require that...nice job though

    • @ouralaskahomestead

      We just didn’t have one with the big notches. Ours were small shallow ones. I’m not too concerned since it won’t be walked on. The wood stove will just be sitting there so it shouldn’t be a problem.
