    Haven’t really played much foe decades and am now getting back in the game. I used to be an alto player but bought a cannonball big bell tenor recently and am looking for a mouthpiece to replace the C* that came with it. This seems like a good balance to build my embouchure without losing control of intonation. Agree? If so, I hope Java or ZZ reeds will brighten things up for the type of music I’ll be playing (rock, funk, blues).

    I’m using this one in a community orchestra (my jodyjazz pieces definitely don’t blend there) and it blows easy with good control and projection without working too hard.

    I bought this mouthpiece, a V5 T35, as my first tenor mouthpiece some seven years ago. I have since bought five more VanDoren mouthpieces but I revert to this one. It must be seen as the best mouthpiece I’ve ever tried. I did try a Link mouthpiece but found it inferior to this one in timbre and tone start. The size - which by the way is 2.30 mm, not 2.28 mm, clearly legible on the box in your video - is very good for a compromise between tone bending and ease of intonation. I’m wondering if you can find a better mouthpiece anywhere. For my new C-sax this mouthpiece is also very good. Possibly I could use a slightly mellower tone for the C-sax but don’t know what to try. Thanks for a great video.

      Thanks. Vandoren's website lists the facing at 2.30. I've noticed some other discrepancies like this with their tip openings. This is still the easiest altissimo mouthpiece that I have. I'll be using it more in my videos in the future

    Hello Sirvalorsax... just found your video... reviewing your comments regarding the Vandoren T35 and the appearance of the so called "Saturn Rings" on the "Table", yes... well to me the construction of the mouthpiece looks to be 3-D Printed. Have you thought to ask if in fact this is so?

      Vandoren doesn't 3D print mouthpieces (not yet)

    Adriene - i went out and got hold of one. Plays great-fast and easy in the altissimo. Really dark. I don´t know where or when i
    will use it. Maybe the gigs where i should be cool. I used a Legere 3.25 studio cut. I will say that colour wise it is limited in flexibility
    but it is really well made and an excellent player. i know i´m going to pop for it. You should get sponsored by Vandoren.
    As always, thanks for putting your things on the net!

      I am also really impressed with this piece. I will probably do more classical type music with it especially with some original pieces that I've written. This might be the easiest altissimo mouthpiece I have as well. I was really concerned that I would not find a classical piece that gave me the altissimo freedom that the jazz pieces offer. I have a comparison video of the 4 Vandoren pieces coming out soon called "Sibling Rivalry". Thanks.

    Well classical or Jazz. I dont know. It just has a very beautiful saxophone sound, that makes all notes sound like real music.

    One thing I noticed about Vandoren Mouthpieces is that they Rough up inside the Upper Beak area. I would think this roughs up the Air, causing some turbulence , maybe some air slowdown or swirling action???

      I believe it's the same principle as a golf ball. The dimples actually reduce friction by creating little pockets of air from its spin. The spin therefore stops the forward motion air from sticking to the ball (creating drag) and allows it to go farther. Bugatti takes advantage of this (vacuum) effect in the design of the rear of the Veyron which creates a suction, drawing hot air away from the mid mounted engine from the rear. I don't know how effective this is on a mouthpiece/neck but manufacturers have been doing it for years. Cannonball scratches up the inside of their necks and Dukoff has done this as well

      There is a lot of resistance with this piece so I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner

    Vandoren should sponsor you. Haha
    But what's the low cut thing you mention at 4:50?

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  6 років тому +2

      HA! There is a "low cut" vs "normal" setting on the Sony microphone that I use on my GoPro. It "cuts" the low end when engaged and enhances the "highs". I talk in some detail in my "stuff I use to make videos" video.
