At the time, the only two I actually owned or really liked were Metroid Prime 3 and especially Metroid Prime Hunters. I’ve since beaten many games in the series, and Other M is the only one I haven’t played at all yet. I’ll get there eventually, the only one I might pass up is Pinball 😂
@@Level_Elevendefinitely give Other M a shot. You never know how it’ll land for you in the present day. And Pinball is good! But not easy to access if you don’t still own a DS.
Definitely. After entering the series in 1999 with Super Metroid (one of best games of all time!) I was there for all three Prime games and sold them all to get that beautiful steelbook Prime Trilogy. I was also there for Fusion and Zero Mission, which are fantastic addition to 2D series. I skipped on Pinball because... Meh, not exactly my kind of thing. Also skipped out on Hunters since it mostly a great multiplayer game with okay single player campaign. I did spend on and played Other M and I do agree that it's a great action title, however it's not a great Metroid game yet mostly a good one that's buried under several bad gaming and narrative design decisions. I still have a copy since it's sort of important canonical event in the series (one that Metroid Dread confirmed in bonus gallery) and that I still played occasionally when I go through the whole series again (like I did in lead up to Dread). So yeah, it felt refreshing to be in midst of Second Golden Age of Metroid starting in 2017 with Metroid: Samus Returns, peaked early with Metroid Dread, and hopefully continuing that streak with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on next gen console. I'm looking forward to many more games for Samus' next missions.

Back in the 2000s it really felt like I was the only person in my city that really loved Metroid, because almost everyone I knew did not play or knew much about Metroid, while I myself got into Metroid at the age of 7 in 2004. My dad randomly decided to buy Pikmin, Evolution Worlds, and Metroid Prime 1 for our newly bought GameCube. We first tested the GameCube with Pikmin 1 and he got so addicted to it that it got to the point that he only played that game and I couldn't play it while he had the controller, till one day I told him it was about time to try another game, he accepted, and we played Metroid Prime 1. He was unable to get into the game or how to properly play the game, where as I did learn to play it, and the more times I played it, the more I adored the game and eventually became my second favorite game of all time. Never did I imagine that dad randomly buying Metroid Prime 1 for our GameCube would start my path into becoming a hardcore Metroid fan.

I think The Other M is good. It does have its flaws but it’s still a good game. Honestly, I think the next Metroid game (Metroid 6) should go back to these ideas and do it better. I do not think that Metroid should stay 2D for the mainline series.
I missed out on Prime 3 and Other M because I didn't have a Wii until 2022. I also missed out on Prime Hunters and Pinball because I didn't have a DS (until I got a 3ds in 2017 for Samus Returns).
